The Sega Genesis basically had a carry-over audio chip from its predecessor, the Sega Master System (SMS).....so sound is just pure ear-ache. Were I the publisher, I would've co-concurrently released a Sega CD version with the HQ soundtrack.
But no modern 3rd-party system can emulate the Sega CD though, so the userbase is gasps nil (almost). For the uninitiated, the first two iterations of the Sega Genesis (1988 and 1993 models) each had a seperate Sega CD unit made for it (expensive front loading tray for the '88 model, and a cheap top loader for the '93 model). How many people have the complete Genesis+Sega CD combo nowadays?
