I have an orange cat that came to my home when he was a few weeks old, and the cat was attacked by my dog (he was aggressively defending his turf), but fortunately the cat found a place to hide. My family took the cat inside the house. It took us around 1 year to teach a dog to change his attitude, but in the end they became friends. Unfortunately, the dog passed away because he was very old.
The cat turned out to be very protective of his region as well, and he was always chasing other animals off.
But just quite recently, a new white cat started to show up, and my cat became friends with him.
The white cat is still varied of us but don't run from us anymore when we bring him food.
