I think technology can hold us together, with the help of social media, missing or old friends are able to reunion, we are able to travel faster with mass rapid tranfers, and people can share their feelings with important people immediately, after all technology is just a tool, it depends on how you use it.
And with technology, although I might be thousands of miles away from you, but we can still share and discuss on this great forum, thanks for sharing this awesome gift!

Thanks for replying :)
I still haven't found my personal answer to that question.
As you said it's way more easier to stay into contact - finally I can talk to my relatives (once over the great pond) via messanger. That's very very cool.
But on the other hand you can meet up online and talk with your friends. Which sure is socializing as well but practically you are still alone at home. Maybe it's the age as well but the good old let's meet up became more rare.

Technology (specifically the internet and cell phones) has caused us to reevaluate what it means to be "alone". By being able to communicate without being in-person, we've come to realize there's a difference between mental and physical companionship. This is all an fancy way for me to say "technology enables us to seek out intellectual/emotional stimulation, but in doing so causes us to be forced to acknowledge our loneliness."
I don't think technology makes us more or less "alone". It makes us more aware when we're alone.

I don't know for sure but just a simple opinion.... I don't have confidence to talk much in public which eventually results in very few irl friends, colleagues and a lot of loneliness. And to hide that fact, I tend to use technology to indulge into some stuff, but at least for the time being makes me feel that I am not alone. I am not sure Technology is making us tilt towards it by making us forget the reality of being ALONE or are we just using Technology to overcome loneliness (btw, that's not a proper solution I think). Maybe irl relationships and friends > technology.... trying to overcome
:)
