there was no puzzle and the thread was in the General category. I think in this case depends more on the level (3+, which takes a lot of users out) and the fact that despite the GA is open for 24 hours it was closed for many hours after the thread was opened.
And remember the title of the thread, "Count the Jellybeans".
So, if you are looking at the thread, you might think... "Ew, this might be some sort of Jigidi puzzle where you then have to count a crapload, sorry... No...", and they lose interest fast.

Now that this is a level 3 one, there are EVEN LESS chances of people coming, unless the people who wants to have more entries invite others to join here...
I'm just the guy who's main goal is to do nothing, so the giveaway disappears from the eyes of everyone.
The other people's strategy (800 entries or more), they have to share the giveaway with others, so they enter and raise the bar higher.
It's just some psychology implemented here, you don't have to agree, since it's all made by common sense, I'm not an expert psychologist, so you are on your right to disagree with me.
I still don't get how you made the connection [lv1+, puzzle: 270 entries] --then-> [level 3+, no puzzle: 250 entries], but it's ok, the discussion is getting quite pointless.

I'm telling you, not many people goes looking for puzzles, so I checked how many people entered my second puzzle.
It was around 270 players, so... There you go!
I used 250 as an aprox.
