Description

Hey everyone! I've started a YouTube channel where I am devoted to doing daily uploads of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ where I try to get big Eden streaks! In the future, I plan to add content like Rocket League gameplay/crate openings, Let's Plays, and showcases of newer Indie Games.

If you're a fan of the Binding of Isaac, or me in general, please check out my latest video! If you like it, please subscribe because these videos will be coming daily :) And any feedback about the content is invaluable to me as I try to grow my channel!

Bumps to the thread are appreciated :)

Thanks :)

What kind of gaming videos do you watch?

Thanks, I think I'll give a try for this GA. People often praise this well above the original version of the game.

I have the first one but I haven't played it yet. I really don't know why. Well, I guess this is a reminder for me to try it and see how it goes from there. I won't enter this one though, because I don't really know if I will even like the first one. Thank you. :)

Hey, good luck with your channel. If you want some advice, 50 minutes of content is a little too much for one episode. Especially when it's daily. Your statistics should show that almost nobody bothers watching that much unless they're a super fan, and since your channel is so small, that won't be any/many. You'd do much better with playing in smaller and more content rich segments, like 10-15, and maybe expand to 15-20 if people respond well to it.

Having content be bite sized and fun or interesting will lure more people to not only watch, but share with others. I can't see anyone being super excited about huge episodes of some dude playing an older game that has been covered to death by popular YouTube and streamers alike for a long, long time.

At the end of the day, you do what you think is best, but that would be my 2 cents, in case you are open to listening to someone who watch a looooot of youtube.

Your energy level is also a bit low. You even said yourself you had just woken up yet, and you weren't in an "Isaac mode", yet you decided to upload anyway. I know you have to do your best to fill the air so there aren't any super dead moments, but you want to consider what you say. If you're not seemingly into it or in the right frame of mind as a creator, why would I be as a "consumer"? A (much) smaller episode thing would help a lot with that. I'm not saying you should overact. Don't do that, that's super annoying, and people can tell, but you shouldn't be super low energy either. You're showing off your stuff to people who don't know you, and won't forgive shitty content. There are tons of channels out there, after all.

Creating exciting content is hard, and building a fan base is hit and miss, and comes down to luck and exposure. You can only do so much yourself, but you should do the best you can to stack things in your favor.

Again, best of luck, and thanks for the giveaway. I've always wanted to check out the game, but I as I watched so much of it on youtube back when it was a relevant game, I just gave up on getting it. However it might be fun, as quite a bit of time has passed since then, and I've forgotten pretty much everything anyway.

*Forgot to mention, that I subbed to give you a chance. I will give you a chance if you were good at showing off indie games, as your channel mentions, but haven't done, but I wouldn't want to watch just daily isaac vids. I'll keep subbed for a week or so to see :)

Appreciate the feedback.

I do recognize that my energy level could use some work, I'm trying! I am having fun playing the game, I just tend to keep my emotional state pretty level.

As far as episode length, I completely recognize that long videos are a hard sell. However, that's also the length of a full Isaac run, and the easiest kind of content to create in my currently limited time. Some of the other content I plan on adding to the channel later on, like indie game previews and crate openings, will be closer to 10 minutes. Also still learning video editing and whatnot. As I mentioned before, I work 50 hours a week and don't have a lot of time for content creation, so for the most part the channel will be Isaac videos for now until something changes and I can take the time to make the kind of content I'd like. But you won't be seeing those indie game features in the next week or probably even couple months unfortunately.

Well alright then. I can appreciate you working long hours, but maybe this isn't the right time to make a new channel then. Like I said, if you're not invested or committed, nobody else will be (just my opinion, don't hate me!)

50 minutes might be how long it takes to make a run, but that doesn't mean you can't split it up. Just have a timer running for xx minutes, and call it. Just say that's it for this episode, and we'll pick it up tomorrow from where we left off. People are used to that sort of stuff, so it won't come off as weird. When you get a little more used to editing, it might be easier to create fun things in the videos, like Cryaotic (I think he's called) used to (or still do I don't know) make a "on the last episode" and then show a 1-4 second thing from the last episode that would either make sense, or just be funny or weird, and then continue on. I'm not saying to copy him exactly, but just to give you an example of what you can do when you're creative :)

I have no doubt believing you have fun playing. You didn't seem like it was a chore to play, but I don't know you, and sitting through a video of someone who has an emotionally low state gets tedious.

You seem like a nice dude, so I'll keep subbed for a while to help you out with numbers. I might even watch a video here and there (or some of it, I'm probably not going to sit through 50 mins). Every little bit helps, and all that.

By the way, why youtube, and not streaming, if you're just going to do longer gaming sessions anyway? Just curious.

I would like to be doing both YT and Twitch in the future, if I can use them in combination as a primary source of income. I know that success in that department is not easy, but it's my goal!

I debated on which to start with and did a bit of research. The general consensus is that building a subscriber base on both services needs one (of many) key components - a consistent schedule (and with Twitch, being able to stream 4+ hour sessions).

My current job does not allow for that with Twitch; my schedule is different every week. I can be scheduled any day of the week, including weekends, with shifts like 5am-2pm, 11am-8pm, or 2pm-11pm. It's just not possible to set a streaming schedule. But I can record videos in my free time and have them published on YouTube at the same time each day.

Yeah ok, that makes sense.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a YouTube channel myself, but I have never taken the plunge, as it's so incredibly hard to get any sort of a viewer base. Even a few hundred is super hard, I think. So good on you for taking the plunge, I guess!

Yeah I was went into some random dude's channel streaming Rocket League after playing against him 1v1, and was the only viewer. I said "Yeah I though about doing this"... and he simply replied, "well, why haven't you?"

I dunno why but that stuck with me. I didn't have a good answer. I just had to start doing it.

I know getting it off the ground is the hardest part, so I'm trying to utilize the reputation I have here to help get me going! I'm uploading videos in an extremely saturated market, so I'm not really getting clicks through searches, at all. I need to be showing some other stuff to really get going. It's just making the time that's hard right now. Plus I'll be out of town for a week, trying to record enough episodes in advance so I can keep publishing every day.

I think I have 1 video up on my channel (A short Risk of Rain Boss Fight, lol). I don't really have any recording software and play most of my games on a pc that I couldn't really edit on. I did have one channel at one point that I have a few Minecraft videos on (super original) but I didn't actually have my own MC account (I borrowed my friend's, lol) and eventually couldn't get back in, so kind of gave up on that. I do think it'd be kind of cool to stream stuff, but I don't really have motivation for that kind of thing (or any kind of thing, for that matter)...

I've played the first one a bit, and it's pretty fun. I kind of doubt I'd get as much playtime from this as a lot of the entries, but it's still pretty tempting...

EDIT: I don't really watch many gaming vids, so didn't check out the channel yet, but I might later.

Thanks Bobafatt!

Already own this gem of a gane, but have a question for you:

Do you recommend buying the DLC (Afterbirth => Afterbirth+) for Rebirth? I love Rebirth, just wondering if it is of the same quality.

Thanks, and happy gaming!

It's hard for me to remember what the game is like without Afterbirth DLC. It's definitely better with it. Though it can make getting started more difficult because it introduces alternate levels which are unlocked from the beginning. The Burning Basement floors are not for beginners.

Sounds like the DLC definitely has your recommendation then.

I just might have to pick it up diring the sake and improve my Rebirth experience.
