I want to expand my video game music playlist on youtube.

Ads are disabled, so hopefully you can just listen and find some music you enjoy without being interrupted by annoying Youtube ads.

If you have any recommendations, particularly from recent games that I might not have seen/heard yet, please let me know! :-)

I've just added Katana ZERO and Return of the Obra Dinn music; I finished and really enjoyed the former game, but don't have the latter yet.

The reviews and gameplay footage for Death Stranding make me unsure if I will enjoy the game itself or not, but there's no doubt it looks beautiful and it has a fantastic OST, it's tough to choose a couple of favourites but BB's Theme and Strands stand out so far.

I originally wanted to include only games that I have played and enjoyed, like A Hat In Time, LISA, Hotline Miami, Skyrim, Hyper Light Drifter, Journey, Catherine, Katana ZERO, and many, many more. But over the last couple of years, I have been discovering music from games I haven't played yet and have created several discussions here on Steamgifts to get more recommendations (here's one from 2 years ago with a quiz, if you're interested). So now my playlist also has some tracks from games I haven't played, like Neir Automata, Detroit Become Human, Valley, The Witcher 3, and loads more.

Thanks for reading, and even if you don't have anything to recommend, I hope you will maybe find some music that you like.

Sure, I guess the classical Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer or basically anything from Symphony of the Night, but my personal favourites are the two underrated I am the Wind and Theme from the Legend of Dracula.

My favorite tracks are Yhorm The Giant, Lorian Elder Prince And Lothric Younger Prince, and Pontiff Sulyvahn. Although, the main theme is awesome too. You really gotta play the game though, 'cause since each boss has their own unique epic song, it'd be a huge spoiler to listen to the OST first!

Your playlist is rather good....but it is missing some tracks, according to objective criteria determined by the best opinionator in the universe, namely, me. Naturally.

So let me enlight you with my list of favorite soundtracks, though that list is a bit old and should be updated with:

  • The Witcher 3 has some great tracks. You have a nice one there, but missed the wild one with the screaming lady...
    AND
  • Hollow Knight has many many many incredibly evocative songs, and some exciting ones. And it has City of Tears, which almost makes me cry every time.... Since you are missing those, of course your list is incomplete. But redemption is possible! :D :D :D

Very happy to get your reply, and sorry it has taken me ages to get through all the comments so far, I have been checking out every track suggested and adding a lot. My playlist has probably grown a little since your reply a week ago! I hope there are a few more to your liking.

I added one from Witcher from someone's recommendation, and just like Witcher 3 the main problem is that I haven't played the games, so while I can appreciate the music as an outsider anyway, I think I am missing that certain connection that we gain from playing and loving the games themselves. As you quite rightly stated prior to your list, yours were judged by how well they fit the game they are in, not necessarily how well they sound by themselves, so until I have played the games I feel like I might not really love them as much. Some games have music that I like listening to without needing to play it, but not always.

It was nice to see some similarities in our lists! World of Goo doesn't get enough love, Bastion and Transistor are just beautiful and I was a bit disappointed by the gameplay of their third game Pyre, and as such haven't discovered the music in it. FF and Zelda have hundreds of hours of great tracks, but picking one or two was enough for me for now. Interesting that you have music from Morrowind (which is beautiful) but not Skyrim - is that because you didn't play the latter?

So much amazing music in games, it depends on my mood as to which tracks I prefer. Recently I have been reminded of LISA's outstanding music, I love that damn game - i think 2 tracks from the original and one from the sequel are now in my list if you have the time and curiosity. I also recently added two from Horizon, one of the best looking PS4 games I played, and I had forgotten how good the music sounded. I also added some more vocal tracks, but as they were made specifically for the game that's fine for my list, and nice to hear sometimes - namely a song from Far Cry 5 and Death Stranding.

Alright, lastly let me address Hollow Knight. I am about 6 hours in to the game and absolutely should add a track or two to my list. I was planning to wait until I completed it so I could fully appreciate it all and re-listen to the OST without spoiling things before coming across them in-game. But, I stumbled upon a problem in that I got to a part of the game and don't know where to go or what it wants me to do. Sadly it got to the point of frustration endlessly revisiting areas and slaying weak enemies, I have currently given up on it. I like Metroidvania games and finished Gato Roboto and Ori and many others. But, Hollow Knight has annoyed me when I was expecting to be thrilled and in love.

Fair enough! Yes, I have not played Skyrim yet, so the version in Morrowind is the one I like the most so far. Have not played Lisa either... and I love the song in the Death Stranding trailer.

About Hollow Knight... I remember hitting a wall near the beginning, though not as much "do not know what to do", my wall was the "how the heck do I beat this boss?" kind. I am not that good with fast fights, so I grinded a bit to have a chance against it, and after many tries, finally managed it. I almost gave up (if this beginning boss is that hard, what about the others?), but it turns out the rest of the game was not as hard for me (though still very challenging).

It's taken me over a week to get this far through the comments, checking most of the links (but I don't have time to check Artuurs' link either, because who the hell spams a wall of links with no context, description or comment at all?) Anyway.. you've got some great choices there, I especially liked the ones from Crystar, Tales of Zesteria and Lost Odyssey (Uematsu is so good!), I feel like I need to explore more of Zesteria's soundtrack, but the first one you linked impressed me most. I will be updating my list in a few days so keep a look out!

My list has probably grown since you first replied, so I hope you can find some more tracks you enjoy.

I'd recommend music from A2XT, but being a community-made Mario fangame, the original songs are spread out and hard to find, assuming they're even on YouTube in the first place. I found some examples, though:

Your YouTube playlist already has some of the best stuff out there... The Mass Effect 2 & 3 soundtracks are pretty great. You've got someof the Skyrim soundtrack on your playlist, but you don't have anything from TES IV: Oblivion, which also had an excellent soundtrack.

And how do you only have ONE song from the Monkey Island series on your playlist, given your YT nickname? :D

Haha, yeah originally I set out to only include 1 track from any given game, but I ended up making more and more exceptions to that rule since some games have so many good tracks.

I never played Oblivion properly. I bought it in a sale a long time ago but haven't given it a proper go. I loved Skyrim so there are several songs, and I even added one from Morrorwind that someone recommended last time I did this kind of discussion. If you have a couple of favourites from Oblivion, I would be very happy to listen.

I did have one track from Mass Effect - not sure which game it was, I haven't played any of the series. But it got removed from YouTube for copyright or something, so I haven't bothered trying to put it back up.

Did my best to scan the answers (except that guy who dumped 50 000 untitled youtube links, ain't nobody got time fo dat, sorry). My first thought was actually Deus Ex and DX:HR Icarus, and there it was near the beginning of the thread.

I haven't seen any mention of the Mirror's Edge Soundtrack, it's great high-energy electronica. This is the song "Kate", but I could well have added a number of others like Shard, Boat...:

I loved Mirror's Edge, and had forgotten about it. Thank you for the suggestion! All nice tracks, though I am leaning toward Shard or maybe even the Still Alive track. One of them will be added in the next few days for sure :-) Good music all round though, cheers!

I had also forgotten how grand Hitman's music used to be. Not sure if it's quite my thing, but I was surprised that I immediately recognised the composer name from the Blood Money theme - Jesper Kyd. I have him in my playlist from his great music in Borderlands 2. Such a different style!

Appreciate the response, I'd forgotten about this as most my other comments disappear down a void never to be heard from again (perhaps I need a like button?).

I haven't played any of the newer Hitman games so I guess I'll be disappointed eventually with the music. :D I didn't know Kyd did Borderlands, I have him in my head as the OG Hitman, OG Assassin's Creed guy (and one fun little squad game called Freedom Fighters). Good to see he found some good material to work with after Hitman and Ass Creed went off the rails (admittedly I hear they're back on track now).
I like the futuristic tinge of the Borderlands track you posted, I think it could have even worked in a neon-lit level of an earlier Hitman game (Petronas towers comes to mind, or a Vegas level, which shares some DNA with it).
