I was wondering what everyone's personal Game Of The Year is this year. For me it's between three games that all come very close to the award. But the winner for me is clearly deserving of the award.

GOTY: Ori and the blind forest

Runners up-

  • Life is strange
  • Evoland 2

Whats your GOTY and/or close runners up to the award?

Surprisingly enough The Witcher 3 does not take the top spot this year, despite it being an outstanding game. The top spot does instead go to Pillars of Eternity. It's similar to Baldur's Gate 2, but with a far more approachable and logical rule system. Generally good writing (even if it at times could get a bit wordy), fun tactical combat, an easy to understand rule system, good variety and a rather lengthy game that does not feel padded all adds up to an outstanding experience.

Any choice other than Witcher 3 is senseless madness and I will have none of it. :P

Let me guess, you're into PoE? Can't blame you, but W3 is just a masterful open world RPG (aside from the less than excellent combat but still good). Old school isometric RPG nostalgia is great and all but let's not exaggerate. To each their own I guess.

I like partybased tactical combat. But I'm not going to deny that The Witcher 3 was an outstanding game. Had it not been for Pillars, The Witcher 3 would have taken the top spot.

Well there you go, I much more prefer real time action combat over a D&D chess match. Win-win for RPGs anyway.

My gut response, I would say Journal. It's the first game that's ever elicited such a strong emotional reaction from me (aka, I cried)
Runners up I would say:
Child of Light - a runner up mostly only because I haven't finished it yet. I was getting some "feels" from this game too.
Strata - My favorite casual puzzle this year. Achievements are a little bugged though.

I could say Her Story and Witcher 3 was my gotys. But adding the list I played Ori with high hopes most of them are answered but i didn't like graphics or more spesific i may say fps much. I was getting 60 fps but it didn't feel like 60 fps at all.

Grim Dawn should receive the last story update by the end of the year but wont be surprised if they delay it for next month.

Well they had a clear roadmap ahead of them so thats one reason why they are going to finish it instead of just keep adding new features till the game starts crashing ...

Unless i'm mistaken(or they changed their mind) they already said they will not have an official release this year because it would be bad business to launch their game during the christmas sale when everyone is looking for deals. In think that in the august dev diary they said that it would probably get an actual release in february and they'd just do more polishing after the content was done in december.
