When was it added? Link

cg (Admin):
The recommended page was added a few minutes ago. It's similar to the wishlist page, but instead of using your Steam wishlist, it's using the top 100 games from our community wishlist. It might be beneficial to users that don't maintain a personal Steam wishlist, or to help users find giveaways for desirable games they overlooked on their own wishlist. I'm going to keep an eye on the stats and see how often it's being used compared to the other filters, and decide in a week whether or not it should stay.

It's been updated to take giveaway entries into consideration, and now displays a combination of top wishlisted games in the community, and games you frequently enter to win.

  • Testing recommended page, showing giveaways for top wishlisted games in the community.

Probably uses part of the algorithm from the recommended sales, games based on popularity.

I've seen it too and I was waiting for an announcement. But I've kinda thought it's based on which giveaways we've entered most.

This is handy, it functions like a secondary wishlist for things you can't (or won't) wishlist on Steam itself.

Its a good option. But does it show different versions of the game? That is what I mean: there is a HITMAN™ ( I could add it to wishlist) but also this page contain HITMAN™ - FULL EXPERIENCE and HITMAN™ - UPGRADE PACK. So will I see these versions too?
And how about "not interested" marks at Steam? I entered GA's for some games before, then marked them and now I see them in recommended tab

So, in other words, the "currently most advertised/talked about games" list. :)

I'm going to keep an eye on the stats and see how often it's being used compared to the other filters, and decide in a week whether or not it should stay.

Keep in mind the 'oh, I'm curious' clicks the filter is going to get this first week.
I for one just used it twice, and I think it's an entirely useless feature. :P
(The interpretation others have noted above seems far more sensible, though still rather unnecessary.)

Okay, seriously, why is it in-between the useful Wishlist and New filters? :(
I'd appreciate the option to hide the filter, if you end up retaining it- but otherwise please consider sticking it directly under 'All', so the three useful filters are still sorted adjacent to one another, nevermind improving the aesthetics of the list.

i like the new filter option. i´m lazy so i dont put all games on my wishlist and to hide all new games, there are too many as well (we had over 5k new games last year, so we would have to hide every day an average of 14.6 games (or at least to check them and only to hide all of the games, we dont want to play)
even with the new script, wich shows you the votings for each game, helps you maybe little bit to hide the worst games faster, but even bad rats has 73% positive reviews (sure, most are jokes, but other developers are buying positive reviews for free keys so there is to many garbage out there)
sure, this filter method hides also many interesting games, but almost every trash is hidden as well so its easy to see some interesting games

Keep in mind you're talking to someone who keeps up to date with their Steam Queue [that is, with all games on Steam]- Recommended is clearly rather useless for me, and that'll certainly affect my perspective.

I'm more confused why the community wishlist, which serves the exact same purpose, isn't enough for those interested in such a function, given that the filter works off the same list.

Either way, it still feels more of a niche feature to me and, either way, its location on the filter list bugs me. As always, I don't begrudge additional options for those who may benefit from/favor them; but I don't exactly care for it cluttering up my menu with its poor location, either. :X

Especially if cg is basing its desirability on clicks made, and it's right there where it's most likely to be accidentally clicked, on the filter list. Add in the idea that he may refuse to reorganize the list if he retains the filter, and I'm being presented with a potential long-term (albeit admittedly minor) nuisance.

That's all I'm poking at. :)

you've probably thought about this already but, what about making it a personalized recommendation algorithm? as in, what games are clicked by the people who enter the same givaways/have a similar wishlist/collection as I?

it could be a nice way to find more obscure games you may like

First day, no use for me. All the recommended giveaways are already on my wishlist...
It's interesting for people who don't hone their whislist regularly. For me, it's just a way to see more people enter the GAs. But overall, I think it's a nice addition, especially for (lazy) people who don't use their whishlist as their personal filter.

Just discovered this function. Wow! It saves me from all the endless scrolling of public GAs now.
It pretty accurately lists the GAs I would have entered if I were to scroll through manually so great job! :)

PS: Just realised cg didn't create this thread but great job for explaining the function regardless. :P
