Is there any way to turn off group notifications on Steam? I am talking about new overlay. In older versions of Steam, there was Friends tab in settings where you could disable group notifications. In new overlay there's no such a thing.

EDIT: The only solution that comes to my mind is using the old overlay (Launch steam shortcut -nochatui -nofriendsui)

Solution

  • Launch Steam with old overlay (add "-nochatui -nofriendsui" in properties)
  • Go to Steam > Settings > Friends and disable notifications for group events and announcements
  • Switchback to new UI (delete "-nochatui -nofriendsui" in properties)

Open the group. Click the bell and choose accordingly.

When you open chat on the bottom left you see your group chats. If you open one, there will be the ''bell'' on the top right. Click it and you can manage when you receive group notifications.

I think this works only for groupchat. Not for group events and announcements.

Yeah,it seems i misunderstood your question. Sorry about that. :/
But i don't get any notifications about group announcements so i can't say what's going wrong.

I have a theory that if you had turned off those notifications in old UI and updated to Steam with new UI, you're ok. But if you fresh install new version of Steam, it cannot be turned off.

That makes sense. Btw, as it may sound stupid, did you check for any subscriptions in the groups you getting notifications for?

You are correct, sir.

For some reason, mine had turned themselves back on when the new UI was still in beta, after Steam crashed on me.
The only way I was able to shut them off again was to opt back out of the beta, shut them off again, and opt back in.

Unfortunately, there's no "beta" to opt in or out of anymore in that regard, but I'm betting there's a setting parameter in one of the Steam files where that "switch" can be flipped. ;) Unfortunately, I'll have to leave determining that for certain to those better equipped to find and dissect those files.

You can revert to the old UI with 2 commands that you can then remove to load the new UI again if you so chose, but the old UI has been fragmented off and is missing a few things like a Voice setting tab and calling options. -nochatui -nofriendsui

You might try reverting and seeing if the option you're looking for is there.
Ah, was already suggested.

Yes, I did what is described in possible solution and now I am testing it. No popups yet. Looks like it works.

Only thing I can think of is:

  • go to Activity (you can get there by click your name located after Community in the top bar and then Activity)
  • Click Friend Activity Settings
  • Uncheck everything under 'A group I belong to'

But not 100% sure if that only works for Activity or also for the Steam notifications so sorry if I gave the wrong info

So simple but yet so effective. Legit groups are hardly spamming your Steam with announcements.

I'm using this program, SteamCleaner, it automatically closes all groups popups.

Yes, unfortunately the new steam UI hides this awesome setting. The only possible workaround is to go back to the old UI.
