Buy a single bundle twice. No joke, getting the 2 BTA tiers in the current Rockstar Bundle could net you enough to reach lvl 2 with ease.

It's confusing to me how it took you $40 to reach lvl 1 though. All you have to do is give just a single game that has any contribution value. A dollar in a bundle will get you that threefold...

EDIT: Or get the monthly. Usually all those games that are on there are considered as non-bundled. That $40 would net you around $210 of CV if we're being very conservative with the estimates.

Just out of curiosity for which of your previous GAs did you pay 40$ ?
Because if that is indeed true somebody must have scammed you HARD considering most of those games were given away for free.

I guess keep hold of a key until a bundle is over to get a higher contribution value, it'll take longer but with the Rockstar Games bundle for example you'll rack in plenty of points once returned back to the original value.

Don't know at this moment if the February Humble Bundle Monthly will get "bundled" status, but giving Civilization VI will surely get you 60 CV. And there will be more games in that bundle. More info here.

ANY non-free game will get you to level 1 as you need $0.01 to get to level 1.
So if you paid $40, you've overshot by far. You must be pretty close to level 2, even if the game was bundled.
Anyway, just make sure you don't buy games that are overpriced compared to their real CV value. That means either buy tons of bundled games that are cheap (from bundles and/or resellers at huge discounts) or buy non-bundled games that are heavily discounted (not above 90% though). Bundled games are usually safer, as non-bundled games can often suddenly get retroactively bundled.
