I'm pretty new here, and new to trading in general, so I guess this is a way of teaching me a lesson! I was added by this user, randomly, and they messaged me telling me they had Rust, which is a game I'm looking for right now! I know most people on here don't like it when people add them without commenting on their thread, or whatever, but I don't mind! I guess I need to be more careful with that, huh? Anyway, they sent me a list of my games that they liked and asked me to make an offer. In the end we agreed to three of my games for Rust (since my games weren't worth much, I was happy with this) I, stupidly, agreed to go first and sent the Keys to them. They didn't reply for a minute or two, so I asked "did the keys work okay?" and as soon as I did - BAM! - they were offline, and not on my friend list anymore. I lost three games (Grimind, Humanity Asset and The Bluecoats: North vs South) which could have been used to get something in return, and I feel so silly, but in a way this is good, because I now know how careful I need to be!!

EDIT: one very lovely user, http://www.steamgifts.com/user/Sq1rr3l, added me and sent me a key for Rust ahh I am so so grateful, you have no idea!!!!

yeah be careful out there, there are many arseholes in this world so sadly can't treat randoms with much trust or in some cases even those that you hold close. If something seems to good to be true it mightn't be

'lowlife thug' - LOL, made me laugh, but in all seriousness, it's a punk-ass move, completely agree.

Yeah, basically just backing up what everybody else said: if someone randomly adds you like that, you need to be cautious, make them post on your thread and make sure the profiles match up and that the rep's fine and all that. because chances are, the user could be banned from SG.

PD : Welcome to SG and dont ever accept random invites, neither trade with people that look shady or dont have profiles with nice reps, i could recommend you to try to make some friends in here (we have awesome people willing to trade and help you with that kind of stuff )

" I know most people on here don't like it when people add them without commenting on their thread, or whatever, but I don't mind! " have nothing todo with we dont like it. its basicly a simple trick to have the time to make some background checks about the guy who want trade with you. Scammers have all something together that is no time. if you have time you see the scam.

Sorry that happened. It sucks, but unfortunately there's a lot of crappy folks out there.
Always try to check as much as possible before starting any form of trade. And generally don't go first. (which is a dilemma by itself).

I hear and feel you and I'm sorry. I've been 12 years on Steam and also for the first time scammed here on SG trades by a serial scammer that made at least 6 known victims.

It's totally not about the game I've lost because I really hope he chokes in it but it's about being violated in a certain way and yes it hurts a lot and it hurts even more knowing that this scammer is to date getting fully away with it.

This is one more reason that I don't accept random Steam invites and that I do all my trading in the open in my one and only trade thread also when in even the littlest of doubts I don't trade. You should know that there's nothing on Earth and Heaven that can force you to trade with someone if you don't like it or don't like something about the trade or trader!

It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Squirrel! :D

Sorry to hear about what happened, but it happens to everyone eventually. I think that all decent advices on trading had been mentioned already, so I'll l just add a rule of mine: when something seems too good to be true it usually is.

Yes, exactly same way it was for me, three games for Never Alone, although there were more than 70 other users (even big traders) scammed from this user. So be sure to check how quickly they've gained their positive feedback points. I'm sure you know all the ropes by now anyway, don't underestimate too many red flags, always check for the background and their behavior.

Ye I know how it feels don't worry. I just got scammed today (my first time) and it feels awful. The weird thing is that he has good rep, but I guess this is what I get for trusting in people. :))
