I'm pretty new here, and new to trading in general, so I guess this is a way of teaching me a lesson! I was added by this user, randomly, and they messaged me telling me they had Rust, which is a game I'm looking for right now! I know most people on here don't like it when people add them without commenting on their thread, or whatever, but I don't mind! I guess I need to be more careful with that, huh? Anyway, they sent me a list of my games that they liked and asked me to make an offer. In the end we agreed to three of my games for Rust (since my games weren't worth much, I was happy with this) I, stupidly, agreed to go first and sent the Keys to them. They didn't reply for a minute or two, so I asked "did the keys work okay?" and as soon as I did - BAM! - they were offline, and not on my friend list anymore. I lost three games (Grimind, Humanity Asset and The Bluecoats: North vs South) which could have been used to get something in return, and I feel so silly, but in a way this is good, because I now know how careful I need to be!!

EDIT: one very lovely user, http://www.steamgifts.com/user/Sq1rr3l, added me and sent me a key for Rust ahh I am so so grateful, you have no idea!!!!

  1. Remove the links as you will be accused for calling out (which is against the Rules of SG) and you will be banned
  2. Welcome to the hurtful club :/
  3. I am sorry for this bad incident :(

Steamrep says the guy is a scammer and was reported for fraud before on reddit. Also delete the profile link, SG has a rule against calling out.

You might wanna get enhanced steam addon for chrome or the browser you are using, it displays bans from steamrep on their profile, it also adds a link to their steamrep and steamgift profiles. This might help you in the future.

Don't worry too much about it, i know it's frustrating as i've been there for the same mistake but yeah keep it as a lesson.

Basic advice :

• Never accept invite from random people, ask them to post on your thread first.

• Use Enhanced Steam for checking more information about the profile you're trading with.

• Always double check their profile, take your time. Most of the time people get excited and rush for the trade trap.

• If their offer is too good to be true, most of the time it's a trap.

• As a beginner, if you don't feel confident about what you're doing, just trade with people with really high REP and no negative.

If you have EnhancedSteam installed, you can quickly access his SteamRep and SteamGifts profile, which helps a ton.
I'm seeing a REDDIT SCAMMER flag on that profile, and +6/-7 on SG, which would instantly decline the friend request.

You should check the trader's background information prior to trading. That user seems to be a known reddit scammer.
Ah well, at least you learned something from this experience. It's not like you lost much - Humanity Asset was even a freebie.

if as written above by others, he was already branded as a scammer you would've seen it at once (that he's branded for scam)
even without looking him up on steamrep.com with this addon for ff/chrome http://www.enhancedsteam.com/

Judging by your comments and general tone, you're treating this the right way... as an opportunity to learn. It sucks that there are people like that who just seek to gain by hurting others.

Btw, is that you in your profile pic? I'm a hetero woman who's engaged but damn girl, you hawt. xD

Well scammers suck balls.. but Grimind, Humanity Asset and The Bluecoats: North vs South are not worth a lot. So you lucky you didnt lost a lot. they are just very cheap not wanted bundle games. lesson learned. (i know its the feel you got scammed not the games you lost)

Goodluck with trading tho! and never ever trust something like this. Rust is an expensive game while your three games were like shit bundle games honestly.

As Student mentioned, always ask the people that randomly add you to verify they really are who they say they are. Either ask them to post something on your thread, or ask for a link to their SG account. If they don't want to do it, either just refuse to trade, or at least let them go first (and always check the keys before sending back!). If they don't want to do that, just call it off. I did it once, when someone was offering a game I really wanted, but he had some negative rep, so I told him that he had to go first (it was also in my trade thread). He refused, so I just refused to trade with him. Glad I did, turned out he was a scammer :S

So yeah, getting some more info on someone before a trade can pay off.

and if they sent you the steamgifts profile, go to "view steam profile" from the SG profile page to confirm that (s)he is indeed who you are dealing with. They sent you a link from someone they impersonating and you can be fooled if you are not careful.

always double check the profiles on steam/steamgifts/steamrep to see if someone is legit. And never follow their links to the hypothetically profiles of theirs. Follow the links from one page to another etc.

<3

I remember my first time getting scammed and dang, did it hurt! I was so, so, so careful yet in the end fell for an impersonator, pretending to be a high-rep trader. Oh, and I went first. Whoops. But you're right, that feeling you get when you send the keys, receive nothing but silence from the other trader and wait for the inevitable removal from their Friends list is just awful. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I guess just remember there are a lot of awesome people here in the Steam/SteamGifts community, so try not to let one (seriously) sour apple ruin the cool community we have. Hopefully you can have better trading luck in the future!

Optimistic sliver of hope: By any chance, were any of them Humble Bundle keys?
