I just wonder, I can play RPG games at 35-40fps with no problem (even 30), strategy games at 30fps but I have recently beaten Hard Reset which is a fast paced first person shooter and it was a torment to finish at 38-45fps. In multiplayer shooters I just simply cannot play below 60 fps or vsync off.

Here's a list of couple of games I play with varied FPS values:

  • Skyrim (High, 2xAA) 35-40 fps (60+ indoors)
  • Fallout series (High 2xAA) 45-60 fps
  • TF2 (Max, 4xAA) 60+ fps
  • Hard Reset (max, 2xAA) 38-45 fps
  • Civilization V (max( 40-50 fps

Mmm, Quake 3 if you didn't force the max FPS to 120, there were some jumps that you couldn't do...

I prefer the FPS to be not below 60 like you, but, with the time, you learn that some games work really well with less than 60... Remark my first paragraph, there are some exclusive games that only you can do some tricks (Mostly First person shooters) with a fixed FPS number.

A playable FPS is one like Killing Floor, where it's a FPS and I can play it.

Here are some good fps games:

  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Dead Island
  • Bioshock 1 & 2 & Infinite
  • Borderlands 1 & 2
  • Counter Strike: GO
  • Crysis 1 & 2
  • Homefront
  • Half Life
  • Killing Floor
and many more. You know you could just simply search for fps game tags on Steam to see a full list of fps games.

I usually play with 16/17 fps :(

You should say "frames per second", or you will see many different answers.

LOL NOPE, we don't have 128 tick because Valve is being greedy.

Ticks have nothing to do with FPS of a player...

I'm only happy with >=60. No exceptions. But I won't change the settings if it dips below to 50.

I can deal with 15 and I'm cool. I have had do deal with ancient computers from the stone age trying to play UT2004. And even on my halfway decent laptop I can play BF3 at around 20 and don't mind.

The FPS amount which is considered "playable" in videogames is currently at around 25.
For me, 30 is the minimum I can stand (since I'm used to 60 fps), and around 50 I'm pretty satisfied with the fluidity.

playable FPS is when you have over 40 FPS in every game, usually it should be 30 FPS,but in games you don't see it fluid if you don't have atleast 40 fps, atlesat that is my expirience, but tbh some games run terribly with anything under 60 fps, which means if there is bad optimization even if you have 50 fps you can't play the game like a normal person, but if its well optimized you can play it with anything over 30 fps

15, most of my games run at this speed now, so I've gotten used to it

It's kind of like watching a movie, that 15 fps animated movie magic

15+ playable, 20+ desirable

  • Half-Life (Lowest): 5-60 fps. Extremely low when rendering particles or moving vehicles.
  • Counter-Strike Source (Lowest): 10-20 fps
  • Battlefield 3: Doesn't even open, lol. click play...............???

When you wrote FPS, I thought you meant First person shooters. I came here to write COD. And then I saw Skyrim, I was like wut.

With my old PC, I can barely reach 30 if I'm lucky. But I got used to it.

I will generally set game gfx settings to the maximum possible that will cause the fps to never drop below 30, even if it fluctuates some between 30 and 60 (my screens max refresh) while playing.

I'd love to get 60+ in everything, but my computer is ancient, and my video card is also dying at the moment, so I'll take what I can get till I can save up for a new computer. But, yeah, obviously framerate is more important in faster paced games, since more is happening, and you can skate by with less frames in some games.

60fps , anything below is unacceptable

if you can't run games at 60+fps its time to upgrade/buy a new computer
