They fixed most of the technical issues. Emphasis on "most". it is working for most people now, even on AMD GPUs. The game itself has other issues though (like the excruciating levels of repetitive and boring tank combat and the really obvious lack of the lead writer from the previous games).

i played it a year after launch, and could finally play it at (mostly) 60fps. before it dropped down to 30 or even 27-28 when driving the batmobile or gliding over the city. so i definitely consider it playable now. still not optimal, but very playable. and it is actually an awesome game.

Isn't NMS as well? I heard people with top tier GPUs having problems.

but decided to focus on fixing the PS4 version first
ok this sounds terrible as a PC gamer but at least they are adressing the flaws...thanks for clearing that up...
concerning the content I havent played it...it was overhyped so no suprise there

But if they have a harder time refunding, wouldn't fixing their version save less money? Cause they couldn't have refunded it anyway :v
Comment has been collapsed.
Apparently, the initial default configuration it shipped with was terrible. Some twiddling around in the config seemed to help many people, according to the forums. The negative reviews about technical stuff stopped a while ago, now it is all about content. Or, well, the lack of it.

at 30 or 60fps? after launch i couldn't bring it to stay at 60 with a GTX 970. not even close. ^^

There have been some others...
Hmm, I don't remember the details, but I seem to remember one indie game "developer" was caught lying about his incomplete game, telling people the trading cards gave hints for how to reach the next level or whatever, apparently with the idea that people would idle 2+ hours and be unable to request a refund.

What they showed can be easily scripted and if you doubt that, just check Aliens:Colonial Marines .

GOOD! I know people were overhyping it and they are part of the reason why so many people were with insane expectations for such a small studio and budget, but the devs also promised A LOT of stuff that is not in the game. It deserves to be refunded by everyone that feel lied to!
Comment has been collapsed.
And i think they shouldnt. If you are stupid enough to preorded overhyped games - pay for your stupidity. Maybe potato in your head will function slightly better next time around.
Comment has been collapsed.
though I do agree, sometimes there are pre-order bonuses that make ones want to buy early, especially with Namco's games.
For example NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 had 2 pre-oder characters that is impossible to get now since they don't sell them even as dlcs.
There was also tales of zestiria where they give you tales of symphonia when pre-ordering.
I didn't pre-oder them but in those case it is more difficult to resist.
Comment has been collapsed.
There are almost a dozen serious things the developer lied about, or hinted how it will be and it just "didn't turn out like that". Hype is surely a factor, but it's just insane how many video-interviews are about the main guy just straight out lying - in recent videos as well, not year-old ones. (I agree on unsafe preorders are subject of fuckups, but this time there was more involved)
Comment has been collapsed.
Still, how hard it can be to wait a day after release? In this day and age internet is full of info, reviews and everything you need to make informed purchase. People are stupid and i have no pity for them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Neither I do, and if you see, I don't even mention players or buyers. There are preordering people, and if the game fails, they got dropped hard, happens. As happened many times before. But I'm not willing to categorize NMS along with the broken-ass releases, because while there was some technical problems as well, I'm not sure if any AAA game lied this much since Aliens: Colonial Marines. This is, regardless of the refunds and hype, a really idsgusting thing to happen. Devs usually make their game sound better than it is, but this is some next level bullshit. And this is why I'm happy about the refunds - (Sorry people) not because yay, customer is protected, because yeah, early-broken games would be so easy to avoid if you would have some self-control. But because it raises the ridiculousness of the situation to such a high level, that they hopefull can't get away with it.

that is the stupidest thing i read today (admittedly, it's still early in the morning ^^). this is so anti-consumer. we as consumers should stick together and try to help each other. and you want to fuck people over...
also, what do you think a case like this means for preordering? did you even think about that for a second? it is a warning for the publishers. it tells them: if you take it too far and lie to your preorder customers, you will pay for it. that's a good thing for a anti-preorder guy like you...
EDIT: and sorry, if i sound a little harsh. as i said, early in the morning... ;)

NMS will be the first 60$ title being a Humble Montlhy early unlock, and maybe the fastest bundled "big title" game in history...

that was battleborn xd but NMS will win in that matter xdxdxd

Well same as No Man Sky, it's not enough to put 60€ price for game of indie devs of Joe Danger, to call it AAA game :D
It was supposed to be massive, multiplayer-social game with lots of stuff to do, but turned out to be proceduraly generated sandbox with few "basic bricks", terrible interface and only-grind-based gameplay. I'd say that FTL is way more "AAA" game than NMS, but it has ~10€ price tag and pixel graphic, so it's instantly considered as indie game :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry, but you're wrong - FTL is "considered" indie because it's indie. Independent. Developer studio and publisher (if any) is both the same, or at least a small company, not the industry giants. That's what indie means. So many people mislabel indie - indie is not the opposite of AAA's realistic graphics, or even gameplay. Everything is indie that's not AAA, even if it tries to clone everything AAA uses. Hello Games maybe is an indie studio, regarding it's size, but tbh it's questionable to even call NMS indie after how they got really close and "really friendly" with Sony.
Btw maybe we could say FTL has more mechanics and content worthy of a AAA game, but nowadays depth is so rare in AAA :P
Comment has been collapsed.
True, but at least it waited more than half a year before it was bundled. Now we'll see how long No Man's Sky can last. If Sony is publishing it and has it in the contract to have all control over publishing, they may do what 2K did with Battleborn and start the damage control fast. That one took 11 weeks after release, so Sony has some time left to beat the record. :)

Doubt some reddit post counts as something official but who knows - the industry is obviously coy with official statements. Even with the shit ton of "slightly" altered/differently described advertisements (aka lying through your teeth, as anyone should in this day and age),
they made it only on media where it wouldn't count for shit .. speaking from a "you can't sue us" legal standpoint.
Comment has been collapsed.
It was obvious that it wasn't going to live up to expectations. But it was impossible to foresee just how bad and empty the damned thing is. They were making the whole "procedually generated" aspect such a big thing because it's literally the only thing the game has going for it, and it's not even a positive aspect in 80% of games that have it...
Comment has been collapsed.
Features that at no point they showed. All they ever showed and focused on was exploration. Because that's all they had to show.
Comment has been collapsed.
i dont think this game is as "bad" or their developers as "evil" as they are made up to be, well maybe they can trow more content into the game to re-attrack people, Terraria is a great example of a game that gets free content and as a result keeps selling.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think the devs are evil, but I do think that they took advantage of the hype to obstruct the truth about many selling points of the game. A prime example is the fact that most people expected multiplayer due to an interview with the developer which implied the implementation of some form of online option - turns out it wasn't the case.
They didn't lie at all, they just preferred to be discreet about the game's features, obviously because they couldn't achieve to do what they had "promised" (figure of speech) to the consumers. If they would have been honest about how the game was going to be on launch, they would have had less sales of course, but honestly is best policy especially when it comes to the gaming community, because they will fuck you up and never let you forget about how your release wasn't up to everyone's expectations.
It's understandable, really. I mean, everyone got over-hyped about the game as soon as they showed off a quick preview. Most developers will hop on the hype train and ride it all the way to the game's release date because it promises lots of sales and high popularity. In a way, it was either that or lose most of their fans by saying "hey everyone, the game is unfinished, runs like crap and doesn't have many of the features we were considering".
In the end, the gaming community is partly to blame for over-hyping a game, as usual.
Comment has been collapsed.
Either they didn't even realize they can't put the features into the game, or they really fucked it up. Either way, regardless of they cheated the customers, or the costomers got cheated because of the dev's careless behaviour and shady communication, at the end the customer got on the shorter end of the stick

at the end the customer got on the shorter end of the stick
Not really. Whoever is eligible for a refund really has nothing to complain about. They didn't like the game, they can simply request a refund and pretend the game never existed. It's disappointing to the consumer, but not a big deal unless they had extremely high expectations - in which case they have but themselves to blame.
I'm not saying the the devs weren't in the wrong, but just that it's no big loss on the consumer's side thanks to the Steam refund. One the other hand, the devs are pretty screwed if most people decide to request a refund though.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm talking about the situation about the quality of the game, not the possibilities. Shipping a half finished game, be it amateur creation or a lie, is against the customer. That's another thing that people could step up a small degree (Steam refunds doesn' worth much, lot of people enjoyed the first few hours before realizing how's exactly the game) - and the extended refund is good.
Comment has been collapsed.
not really, you can refund it on steam and the PlayStation Store, and even if you cant, you lost 60$ probably not gonna change much in your life.
But now whos gonna believe in Hello Game's next project, or anything Sean Murray gonna say about any future project, their credibility and capacity has been extremely questioned, and from that depends their company and future. It is entirely their own faulth, but one cant be angry at someone who is driven by passion. They can dig themselfs out of this hole, if they act quick, like i said, i think if they trow some significant free content, they will regain consumer favor, and get the press talking about the game again.
Comment has been collapsed.
but then again you can make the argument that it was completely up to you, could have waited and see, nobody put a gun to your head to pre-order a game, which is what promotes this kind of behavior in this industry.
So in that way you have no one to blame but yourself :P

I thought that in this case people were setting themselves up with expectations for features that the creators didn't necessarily say were going to put in the game. I don't really follow game development much, but it's what I heard after this dropped. It looked interesting, but from the bit of chatter I've heard about it, it's obviously nothing much more in-depth than a mildly interesting exploration game with mining/crafting elements.

In a way, this is kinda sad. As overhyped as it may be, No Man's Sky is a game whose hype, although partially generated by the developers, was mostly created by a misinformed community, or at least that's how I see it. By the sheer scale of the game, you can see that the devs really tried to create a game with a little extra kick in it, but a lot of people (including me, for a few days) thought that it would be much greater than it really was. So yeah, I feel kinda sad about the reaction the devs are receiving.

Mildly interesting. This is the first time I've heard of this happening with any game on Steam.
