Hi everybody, I'm somewhat a collector when it comes to adventure games but since the Steam store got pretty huge over time I somehow lost track of all the great adventure games in the depths of the store. So I ask you, if you know any great adventure games which are really worth playing. By adventure games I mean Point & Click Adventures, adventures in the style of MI4 and Grim Fandango and in the style of Myst. I don't count The Cave as adventure for example. And I'm not looking for hidden objects games either. Just the classic adventures (don't have to be on Steam).

To help you not to suggest a game I already own, I will list the adventures in my collection here.

Steam:

Black Mirror

The Book of Unwritten Tales

The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles

Broken Sword 2 - the Smoking Mirror: Remastered

Broken Sword 3 - the Sleeping Dragon

Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse

Chaos on Deponia

Deponia

Detective Grimoire

Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes

Edna & Harvey: The Breakout

Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold - Episode 1

Gemini Rue

Goodbye Deponia

Jack Orlando: Director's Cut

Journey of a Roach

Lilly Looking Through

Machinarium

Monkey Island: Special Edition Bundle

Red Johnson's Chronicles - 1+2 - Steam Special Edition

Residue: Final Cut

Resonance

Reversion - The Escape

Runaway: A Twist of Fate

Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis

Secret Files Tunguska

Secret Files: Sam Peters

Syberia Bundle

Tales of Monkey Island Complete Pack

The Cat Lady

The Journey Down: Chapter One

Non-Steam:

Beneath a Steel Sky

Broken Sword 1

Day of the Tentacle

The Dig

Full Throttle

Grim Fandango

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Loom

Maniac Mansion

Monkey Island 3 - The Curse of Monkey Island

Monkey Island 4 - Escape from Monkey Island

Sam & Max - Hit the Road

Zak McKracken

Thank you in advance.

If you like the Runaway game you have, you may want to try the other Pendulo games. Like the first two Runaways and The Next Big Thing.
Edit: and Yesterday
In fact I consider A Twist of Fate the weakest Pendulo adventure.

I did not play the Runaway game yet, but I think it resembles pretty much that what I call an adventure game. Since Pendulo games looks like an adventure only developer I will consider the other games for sure. Thank you!

You should try Gabriel Knight series and Sanitarium if you haven't yet. True classics!
Longest Journey, Dreamfall Chapters and Gray Matter are great games as well.

don't forget to play Dreamfall: The Longest Journey after you beat The Longest Journey, before you start Dreamfall Chapters though.

Pretty much anything from Telltale, starting from their Sam & Max series. Their newer ones are less and less interactive, but they still kick some major butt. Also, The Longest Journey series. Maybe Simon the Sorcerer, just don't play any after the third one.

Yes that's the thing about Telltale games which makes me a little bit unsure about them. They seem to suffer from interactivity a lot. Nothing compared to Tales of Monkey Island for example. Will definitely get the newer Sam & Max games. I heard about Simon the Sorcerer about 20 years ago, never checked it out because I didn't know it was an adventure game. Thanks for this one!

Definitely you must try Broken Sword! Great game, I remember playing it in my childhood.

Yes I did, they are a big part of my childhood. At least the first two parts. Never played 3, 4, 5 but I will. That's for sure.

so many great games. suggesting one is impossibru! -_-

edit: i thought you're seeking for a suggestion which one to play from your game list. sorry for being useless. .-.

You haven't listed them so I think I can suggest them "safely", but since you have a Sam & Max, you could always track down the rest of Telltale's games? There's a Bundle on Steam for them...at the very least I would very highly recommend The Wolf Among Us and the first season of their Walking Dead game...plus they now have a Game Of Thrones game and Tales From The Borderlands but other than that I don't know what to suggest...would you classify Alan Wake as adventure? Deadfall Adventures? The Tomb Raider games?

Yes I checked out the Telltale games and I know they are pretty much what I would call adventure games. I'm not really sure about them though. They seem to be very heavy on cutscenes, like one guy mentioned here before. But I will definitely keep an eye on that.

As for Tomb Raider and Alan Wake I would not really classify them as adventure games in my understanding. Well they are some kind of adventure games but not that kind I was searching for :P

Thanks anyway!

Old ones:
Quest for Glory 3 and 4
Sam and Max: Hit the Road
Leisure Suit Larry 7

Newish ones:
Primordia
The Fall (don't be fooled by the trailer, it's an adventure at heart)
Back to the Future
The Blackwell Series (the first one is kinda like a demo, it gets better and better)
Resonance
Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

First one was exactly what I was looking for. I also heared about Walking Dead, will definitely try it out.
Quest for Glory was not really the adventure game I was looking for but it looks really classic and worth playing. Love these "old" games.

Free (and very good imo) horror adventure games: The Trilby's Series.
Download here. <- of the other games I'll also recommend 1213 (not a point'n'click adventure though)
Order in which to play the Trilby's Series.

Also, the only Myst-like I liked aside from the Myst series: Lighthouse.

Exactly. Too many to name them all.
I especially enjoyed Quest for Glory, Police Quest, Conquest of the Longbow and Conquest of Camelot
(But they are not point-n-click, they used text based commands)

A lot of games of your non-steam list are actually on Steam.
I've played so many adventure games.... I'm gonna name some I enjoyed and remembered:
(Just use youtube to see what they are about)
No Steam
Cruise for a Corpse
Darkseed
Discworld
Future Wars: Time Travellers
Legend of Kyrandia
Les Manley in Search for the King
Operation Stealth (aka James Bond 007: The Stealth Affair)
Phantasmagoria
Simon the Sorcerer

Steam
A Vampyre Story
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition
Gray Matter
Inherit the Earth
Quest for Infamy
Stranded
The Detail

And basically (almost) all LucasFilm and Sierra games

Oh, almost forgot The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief. Excellent adventure game and on Steam

Yes I know but the Steam versions of some games are cut or different in other ways. Loom for example is heavily cut on Steam because they used the cd version where they had to remove music and part of dialogues. I got the full FM-Towns version. And for some other games I just have the CDs lying around here so I don't need them on Steam.

As for the Steam adventures Quest for Infamy and Stranded look too much like RPGs but the other ones are great, thanks!

The Non Steam games look really great. I wonder why I never heard about most of them except for Discworld and Simon the Sorcerer.

Thank you for that collection, hope I can get my hands on these nice games.

Add me if you cant find them ;). I'm a collector as well.

Quest for Infamy is a true oldschool adventure game. It has some minor fighting scenes but they arent noteworthy (you can change combat difficulty to easy). It was in a bundle not long ago so you could probably get a key somewhere cheap, in case you change your mind.

Not sure if the following were mentioned, since I'll check through the thread for suggestions, as well, after I post this, so here you go.

The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief : Well done mystery/detective adventure game. Reminded me of old games and Agatha Christie novels, a bit.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes : Haven't played this one yet, but I got it recommended based on the above, so looking forward to playing it myself.
The Last Express : Pretty interesting mystery. The visuals felt odd at first but I got used to them, eventually.
The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav : Beautiful art/sound, great story and puzzles. The Dark Eye universe is amazing for adventure games, not only for RPGs apparently.
Memoria : Sequel to Chains of Satinav. Loved this one, maybe even more than the first.
The Dracula series : Still have the box copies of two of these. Classic adventure games for me.
Still Life, Still Life 2 : From the makers of Syberia.
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall : Must play games, if you are a fan of the genre. Dreamfall chapters just came out, too.
The blackwell series : Played two out of those so far and looking forward to the rest. Remind me of older titles, a lot.
The Last Door : Played it recently and enjoyed it, though it felt a bit short.
Amerzone : Loved this when I played it years ago. Made by Benoît Sokal, who made other titles like Syberia, Paradise and Sinking Island. I recommend these last two as well. I don't think they are on Steam or where they are sold, considering I bought them on retail.
Atlantis : This along with its sequels (though I didn't like them all as much) where some of my first adventures. I still remember trying to solve all those riddles as a kid. It might be the sentimental value that makes me recommend it but I still think they are worth a play.
Shivah : A bit short but it's worth a play. Same dev as the Blackwell series.
Shadows on the Vatican Act I: Greed : A bit short but it's only the first part, so I guess it's understandable. Quite good otherwise.
Cognition : An Erica Reed thriller : Really enjoyable and with quite logical puzzles.

I haven't played the following but they are on my to play list so thought I'd share :
The Whispered World
The Night of the Rabbit
A New Beginning - Final Cut
The Book of Unwritten Tales
Nicolas Eymerich - The Inquisitor - Book 1 : The Plague
Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy
The Samaritan Paradox

Basically, all Wadjet Eye's and most Daedalic's games. Runaway series are pretty great too. And lets not forget about classics, I see you've got a nice collection there. Start with the first three Monkey Islands then move to Grim Fandango and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Beneath a Steel Sky, The Dig, and Loom.
