You're still a student
Also good luck finding any jobs in entomology :/

I'm already in contact with DARPA for work after I get my doctorate, thank you very much. And worst case scenario - postdoc and then professor. Also, applied entomology gives you consulting work for farms, pharmaceutical companies, pest control, virology, and countless others. Entomology has a lot more job opportunities and practical applications than people realize.

So you are positive that within a 6 year time lapse that nothing at DARPA will occur to change hiring circumstances? Do you realize how many students they are 'in contact' with at any given time? I know for a fact entomology is generally pretty saturated, one of my best friends just got her PhD. I've almost completed mine in neuroscience.

Obviously things could change, that's why I made that huge list of other jobs. I honestly have no idea why you're trying to argue with me right now. I trust the dozens of qualified professionals I've talked with over what someone I have no reason to believe actually almost has a PhD in a completely unrelated field. With the background and experience I have, I have several dozen fall back options if DARPA falls through. I just wrote what my goals were since I didn't think anyone would want several paragraphs explaining the pros/cons and chances of each option.

I'm not arguing. Your post simply caught my eye - it's laughable that you called yourself a scientist when you don't even have a bachelor's yet. :) I had to delve into the ego behind the post.

My degree's in economics, minored in French. I'm a temp agent, currently doing data entry for a small software company. It's ok and I don't mind it. Never really bought into the whole "find a way to make money doing what you love" idea. Because what I love is being asleep. I don't really have any real "career goals" so to speak; just kinda going through the motions here.

Right now I'm an undercover cop in Hong Kong trying to gain access to the Triads. In my free time I drive around town with a complete disregard to traffic rules, do a few favors here and there to gain street rep and expose drug suppliers so that my fellow policemen can put them behind bars. Lately though I feel I've become too attached to my gang and my handler keeps pissing me off about it.

I currently work as a Junior Financial Analyst. It pays well, but days follow a very standard routine. Most of it in my office on a computer working with excel and various other programs. 9 hour days (including lunch) and sometimes overtime on weekends. I really want a change in my life and hope to one day work in hotel management.

Yeah, I book flights and hotels, help people with visa applications, arrange sightseeing tours and generally try to make sure the client has a good time while on a trip :) The job can be pretty fun at times, as any other job that involves dealing with all sorts of people. And it can be quite stressful when things do not go as planned ^_^

Software developer in International Corporation which makes me really happy mainly because of access to newest technologies, communication on daily bases with a lot of foreign customers/people (I'm from Czech Republic so we don't have much tourists except in capital city) and so on :)

Studying Transport & Environment and later Intelligent Transport Systems, but what I really want to do is make films, and there are universitys here to study that but it's either extremely hard to get in or too expensive.
So I'll try to get better at it and maybe one day make my own feature film.
I also love to trick, though that will probably only be a hobby, not more ;)

I am at this point in life where I need to start choosing a career(Grade 12). I have hobbies, and would definitely want to work as someone in those paths, but salary wise, none of them are worth it. Maybe someone here would like give me good pointers. Also, if you do feel like sharing what you do, would you mind also sharing your daily routines at work?
