and it was the ugliest thing I ever drank in my life (yes it was cold).

-Not even the slightest buzz effect after drinking half of the bottle, took me a few sips of wine to feel it.

-It tastes like ass, I wanted to puke.

I officially give this title to beer - the most overrated thing on the planet.

Wine and Champagne is much better IMO even though I think alcohol overall is overrated as hell.

BTW I'm 20 years old male.

You're not supposed to feel beer after half a bottle or so. It's the kind of thing you can drink a few bottles/pints of and enjoy the taste before you start feeling it.

What kind of beer was it? I like German wheat beers, but I hate malt beer.

Please don't write all beers off because of the taste of just one. Try a few other varieties first, there might be one that you like.

Here is the thing about beer... If you drink anything from the Miller Brewing Co. Anheiser Busch, or Coors Brewing Co, and/or any of their affiliates, you arnt really drinking beer. Most of those are about 3.4 to maybe 4% alcohol, wine is more than double that, and they mostly taste like trash can water. So, dont give up on beer, try many different kinds. I admit, it is an aquired taste but for whatever reason it grows on u.
Try something hopy, try something dark, try something light, fruity, heck i know a company that makes a beer that 50% wine. Ive seen them made from pumpkins, melons, grass, leaves, so many hops your head wants to melt off ive had over 60 types beers to this date, and not 1 of them tasted like the last some good some bad... just keep looking

The funny thing about getting drunk, when everyone is telling the truth, is that you can easily get them to confess "you know, man, I don't really LIKE beer, but everyone's drinking it and it's cheap".

There are very few beer lovers in this world. The majority is just trying to look cool and blend in.

Drink what you like and preferably drink only to get drunk, only occasionally. Otherwise it's a habit, and there's a thin line between habit and abuse.

Drinking to get drunk? No thanks, I'd prefer to actually remember my nights and not end up making a complete embarrassment/idiot of myself when the money could go towards far more worthy causes. Couple of drinks for me is fine, I get to savour the taste, plus I've still got some money left in my pocket as well.

I used to hate taste of beer when i was 14, now when i'm 18 it tastes good. Idk, maybe you have to be mature enough to drink it with pleasure ;)

I don't see what being mature got anything to do with beer. Hate when people tell me I'm too picky about things when they drink cheap shit.

When you mean most, i think that you're not referring to:

  • Irish beers like: Beamish and Guiness
  • UK Real Ales
  • Italian Beers like Birra del Borgo
  • And many more from countries like czech republic, belgium, etc.

I think this is how it goes - if your first alcohol is wine/champagne, you're more likely to hate beer (I'm one of these people).

If you have beer as your first liquor, then you'll generally stick with it.

And if you have hard liquor/spirits first...I dunno.

I don't really like the taste of most beer but it gives a hell of a good buzz, much better than wine or spirits.
And yeah I need at least two and a half litres of it to get a slight buzz so half a bottle won't do justice :)

Don't like the taste of beer? Don't drink beer. It's as simple as that.
Feel sad about not liking the taste of beer? Try different beer (there's more variety than wines, really) and see if there's something you like. People who usually detest beer have said mead is something they've really enjoyed (while not exactly beer, it's close to it), but depending on your location it might be a bit hard to come by.

Not even the slightest buzz effect after drinking half of the bottle
Do you weigh 100lbs or something that you expect to get tipsy off half a bottle of beer? Especially if it was traditional "american" beer, which has about 25% of the alcohol content of wine.

I officially give this title to beer - the most overrated thing on the planet.
Dumbest statement I've heard all day, congratulations. You are not the planet.

Sorry, what? I guess to each their own, but if you're drinking alcoholic beverages "for the buzz", you might be doing it wrong. You should definitely try judging them on their flavor, taste, and body.

Personally, I think a cold beer is one of the most palatable and refreshing drinks you can have, especially during a hot summer day.

In any case, you might try a few types, and see which one fits your taste -if any. If you had a stout, you might want to try a lager or ale. However, in no way are you obligated to like beer, or alcohol in general. If it turns out you don't, more power to you.

Just as I said in one of my previous posts, I don't like the bitter taste, I don't see how people can kill their thirst with it. Not in any way I drink alcohol for the taste. If I wanna get buzzed, I'm going to drink something strong.

i tend to agree with you actually. I've tried but i honestly haven't "acquired" the taste for beer yet. I always feel like puking (just from the taste alone) after having some beer.

Maybe some of u guys can give me some advice / good beers for a novice?

You need to inform us what kind of beer you have tried, and what other drinks you like, so we know your pallet a little better. Many beers are quite an acquired taste though, and I've actually found that through tasting some I have completely gone off others (I cant stand lagers anymore)

As someone mentioned, when drinking for getting "dizzy" then you're doing it wrong, it's probably fastest way to actual alcoholism. Second thing is that I don't think you're drinking Champagne, probably just some cheap sparkling wine, since Champagne is specific sparkling wine made in Champagne region of France (30 dollars per bottle of questionable quality).

Alcohol is fine. Beer has a bit of a bad taste. Most brands I tried, I didn't like, so I guess it's a beer thing and not a brand thing. However, Cider (Somersby/inCider/whatever else) is pretty awesome.

I don't like it either, and I drink it often. I don't mind drinking it with friends, but when I'm alone, I'd rather drink water than normal beer. I don't like the taste of it at all. However, I love those flavored beer things, with lemon juice, grapefruit, berry and such. I'd rather drink 15 radler beers than 5 real beers.
