I'm asking because over the past few years my gaming joy took a hard hit, I just don't find most games fun anymore.

Not sure if its just me growing older but I'm bored with most games now and looking for a game thats really worth a damn.

A few games that did it for me were Mass Effect, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas and the Walking Dead.

But even that grew old pretty quickly.

What about you? Tell me about a game thats worth playing.

A game that stayed with you long after you finished it.

Could be a game with wonderful storyline, superb gameplay (hopefully both).

Not just a game to pass the time because you're bored, but a game that makes an impact.

Anyone else just doesn't find games fun anymore?

Took a long break from most gaming (about 2-3 years now).

Maybe after 30 years its time to put away my controller and keyboard in the closet.

I do feel like I've wasted enough of my life as it is.

Even when I do play I feel incredibly guilty afterwards

well, if you want to quit, quit. fuck it, every thing that we do in our lives, is just an excuse to avoid reality, because reality sucks... if videogames are not doing the job anymore, look for other thing, music, cooking, drugs, sex, what ever...
life is a strange game, the only winning move is not to play.

Assuming this is a puzzle, but I can't decide if the first letter of each line is supposed to be an anagram for "I Want Ambiance" or "Aw nice, I Batman".

Tzell, if you wanna games that make impact, try To the Moon. 4 hours of gameplay followed by days of aftershock. Amazing, really amazing storyline.

If you wanna something more lightheaded but still witty - try recent The Stanley Parable, it's unorthodox and really funny (don't forget to check out the demo first).

I doubt gaming will be over for me anytime soon. There are just too many good ones out there, from the golden years, than I won't be finishing in the nearest future. Oldschool games are cult not because they are just old.
And that brings me to the game series that made the most impact on my life, without which I might not be where I am now. I'm talking about, of course, the Legacy of Kain series, the games with the best storyline in gaming ever. Years and years after now, it is still with me.

Amnesia The Dark Descent has made a bigger impact on my gaming life than i expected it to. I thought once it was finished that was it. But I was proven wrong when I came across the mods and custom maps that people other than the developers made. The immersion, the stories, the hair-raising atmosphere really got me. I'm not sure if horror games are your thing but Amnesia The Dark Descent has stood the test of time in my case. With the numerous mods and custom maps, the re-playability is really up there. Amnesia The Dark Descent with its amazing main storyline and amazing mods is a game I truly think you wouldn't find yourself bored in.

Probably because you play way too many games. Reduce it to one great game a month or something. Or replay some of your old favorite games.

How about you try to scare the sh*t out of yourself with horror games? Amnesia, Dead Space, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, F.E.A.R., Penumbra: Overture... I don't exactly know if this will help but give it a try!

When gaming isn't fun any more, I'd advise not forcing the issue. You don't have to throw in the towel and say "Okay, that's it, I'm done with gaming forever." But you could do an otherwise great game a disservice by trying to play it while you're not "in the mood." All of the games you mentioned (The Walking Dead, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas) are great games, to be sure, but even I reached a point with Skyrim where I was like, "Is this all there is? These people are getting too predictable," and I walked away from it, for like a year. I picked it up again when I was given the Dawnguard expansion, and I 'made my own fun' in it [at the moment I've decided to steal every last sweetroll in the land, just because.] But I would just wait until something catches your eye and makes you go "Ooh, I wonder what that game's like?" Otherwise, don't sweat it, and don't over-think it. It's not worth it. (Granted, I only reached that conclusion myself after sweating it and overthinking it the first time I dealt with something similar.)

Really the only hobby-like experience that has never waned for me personally is pen-and-paper tabletop roleplaying, and that's probably because I only do it twice a month, tops.

Having said all that -- I recommend "Dishonored." (But wait for a sale.)

i experienced the same thing... then i played dark souls. after sinking at least 500 hours into that game now i can tell you this with 100% guarantee the reason they feel boring is because they are boring. It's simply due to repeating the same game with nothing of actual substance added e.g. call of duty, battlefield, The Elder Scrolls (if anyone even thinks about replying with anything related to skyrim being different then I'm gonna have a good long laugh at your expense) or the fact that games now favor a story or the developer's own ideas at the expense of game-play, aesthetical and audible value.

I would like to clear up one misconception someone could see my last point as: no i am not talking about aesthetics as in 8-bit, 16-bit, poor textures etc, but instead the actual level of graphical fidelity. a large amount of people claim their games are meant to be reminiscent of older game's art styles but a lot of the time it is just a BS excuse as the original game has nothing to do with theirs.

essentially, you just gotta go sift through the crap and find a decent game that is in your style of tastes, for me that was dark souls and Neverwinter Nights (old game but it was my first ever video game so i get a lot of nostalgia from it).

The Portal Games, Red Faction Guerilla, Xenogears, Pokemon Crystal, Golden Sun, Chrono Trigger, Metro 2033, Thomas Was Alone, Risen, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
Oh, and if you're looking for something else you could try doing some Board Games with some friends... Settlers of Cataan, Scrabble, Scategories, Apples to Apples, LIFE (And yes I mean the board game, I'm not one of those people who joins a video game thing just to tell other people who play video games to get a life).

I absolutely loved the Batman series, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. I always recommend friends to buy them during sales. Fantastic storyline/characters/VA, gameplay/mechanics. One thing I will say is that you should definitely use a 360 controller to play it on PC.

"To the Moon" Just a small narrative indie game but such a strong, touching story line... Portal games if you haven't already, too. And Half Life 2 of course (I suspect you will have already played it)

Ever try board gaming? I defiantly don't mean Scrabble, Monopoly, or Risk.

I was in the same boat and pretty much quit playing video games for about five years or so and I'm just starting to get back into them. A few years ago I started getting into the board game hobby and now I have over 500 different games. They are a nice change from video games as they usually challenge you in different ways and they are far more social as you are sitting next to real people =)

My guess would be, if you enjoyed those, you'll also like Dragon Age.

A game I've enjoyed for years and played for thousands of hours without getting slightly tired of it... The Sims. That's just me, though.

I go through that a lot actually. I typically switch platforms (get away from my PC and grab my PSP just for a different feeling, for example), switch genres, or use Steam Roulette over and over until I find a hidden gem.

A few things I recently felt dragged me back:

-Volgarr the Viking if you like old fashioned platformers

-Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines if you like RPGs

-Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes if you like point n' clicks and/or dark humor (And if you like point n' clicks I'd recommend The Book of Unwritten Tales)

-System Shock 2 if you like FPS/RPG/horror (and I'm on my first play of it, so it's not nostalgia talking)

And I'm always dragged back by the classic Tomb Raiders. The originals are still the best of the series imo. If you're interested in the old ones, I'd go for the first one and/or The Last Revelation. Anniversary is my favorite modern one if you're really put off the old ones' graphics, controls, etc... but it doesn't quite grab me the same way.

From your unplayed games I'd also recommend: Divinity II: Director's Cut, LA Noire, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Sonic Generations, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, To The Moon (amazing experience - actually made me cry it was so touching).
