This happens to me and sometimes I take some time off for a while and that helps.
I also play a genre I never really got in to before I really liked devil may cry and tales of symphonia which are not my type of games usually but great story and awesome game play. ( devil may cry 3 and 4 not new one)
I will also go back and play an older game that really did it for me like final fantasy or xenogears.
But I would recommend if you have not tried them. Metro 2033, spec ops the line, elemental war of magic the strategy game a lot of depth,
And portal 1 and 2 fun, creative, great and funny dialogue and cheap. FIRE EMBLEM
Maybe finding someone to play a little co-op with?

If it's no fun don't do it. Most games are crap anyway.

Play doctor.
Can be played just about anywhere and should always be satisfying. Oh and it's free-to-play though I hear there's pay-to-win as well, pick carefully. Can be played at all ages but don't advise to play it with all ages, that may be troublesome for all involved..

The Wolf Among us. It's... quite good.
If you had fun, your time wasn't wasted by the way.

In the past 2-3 years, indie games have really taken off. I love Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, but there are some great indie games out there now. Fez, Thomas Was Alone, The Stanley Parable, Braid, Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Bastion... there are a lot of them. Many are pretty unique.
But if you feel that bad about gaming, read a book. Our generation is definitely not as well read as the ones that came before. I read on my smartphone, since it's lighter and smaller than a book, holds many books, and goes everywhere I do. It's like my Pip-boy (Fallout reference) but not mounted to my wrist, though it might as well be as much as I use it. And now you can upload your books to Google, and Google will keep your place from the smartphone to the tablet to the Web. I don't know that reading can scratch that same itch, though. Stephen King's Dark Tower series might be somewhat similar to Fallout New Vegas in a sense (alternative western), though the first book is weak (and very short). Second book is good, third book is almost as good. Fourth book is great. Last three are so-so, and it goes off the rails a bit when the heroes meet Stephen King himself. Yep, the author is a character. Or if you want something that feels like Final Fantasy (though you didn't list it), Cloud Atlas (same as last year's Tom Hanks movie) is kind of like that. Well, it's not fantasy, but like those games, the world is coming to an end and our heroes have to stop it. Only they're spread out across six generations, and send kindness and art through the ages on a comet birthmark to spark a revolution. It's pretty amazing.
Games are just one way to experience a story. Books, movies, and television series are others, and they're all valid and valuable.

If gaming isn't fun anymore, just give it up until you get the bug again. I started gaming 19 years ago and I went about 6 or 7 of those years without picking up a videogame once. It's fine.

You can try Pool Nation.
I'm not a fan of indie-games but if you even a little bit like to play billiard, you should give it a shot. It's not racing, RPG or a shooter like others, so i felt refreshed when i played the game.

wait...you fell guilty for playing? Even animals play! What should you do else? You would have to feel guilty for everything that makes fun and having no fun is no good life imo
EDIT: try to the moon!

Hey there, I have a similar problem lately so I think I can relate. I feel that the problem is mostly what you wrote in the last two sentences (feeling of wasting time on games and guilt) and it's not gonna be solved by just picking up a game awesome and unique enough to 'cover up' that bad feeling (well, for you it may be like that but it wasn't for me). Personally, I had to 'inject' something more into my gaming, something worthwhile so that I don't feel the guilt and instead feel a sense of development and progress when playing games. I attained it by trying to learn languages with games - Steam is a great platform for that, you can easily change the language of games you are playing and presto, you're not only having fun but learning something at the same time. If you're not into languages then I guess you could pick up a game that could teach you something about history/culture/science (there are such games out there ;) My point is that this feeling of guilt won't disappear with just an awesome game - you have to make more out of gaming (at least for now) or give it a break for a while.

To me it sounds like you are tired of AAA games, that are all epic and similar. Maybe try some nice indie games, that aren't focused on epicness and graphics and shooting, but rather stories and fun things.
Edit: If you still feel a bit tired of gaming, take a break.. go outside, have some fun and see the world or something. If you still like gaming you will miss it eventually. Nothing wrong with taking a break once in a while.

Something similar happened to me back in around 2004 prior to HL2 and God of War, San Andreas and a bunch of games coming out between 2004 and 2005. I just got jaded because I was playing too much stuff online on a regular basis; counter-strike, Final Fantasy 11, Diablo 2. I didn't feel like playing any of the other stuff I'd already played recently on my PS2 or Xbox either. What it took for me is going back to older games. I found my enjoyment again in stuff like Legend of Zelda and the Mega Man series and other older games.
What really did it for me was the fact that the games mechanics were simple but the games had really solid level design. So my advice is to play stuff you don't typically play. Look at older games and other simplistic fun stuff like Castle Crashers, Cave Story, FTL, Mark of The Ninja. Play less of the dark/gritty mature stuff and the really "samey" stuff like Modern Military Shooters. Also consider stuff that's more ridiculous fun like Saints Row 3 and 4 and Bayonetta. I got Saints Row 3 when I bought Skyrim and what I would do after getting home from work to unwind is I would just screw around in Saints Row 3 for like 20-30 minutes before booting up Skyrim. It's like having an appetizer before getting to your entree.

My wife and I, we found peace and happiness in Worms. I personally play, and finish, Crimsonland from time to time.
You are bored because game makers does not bother to enjoy you. Most of the are just product seller caring nothing but money. and this is why you will joy in indie games.

I'm asking because over the past few years my gaming joy took a hard hit, I just don't find most games fun anymore.
Not sure if its just me growing older but I'm bored with most games now and looking for a game thats really worth a damn.
A few games that did it for me were Mass Effect, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas and the Walking Dead.
But even that grew old pretty quickly.
What about you? Tell me about a game thats worth playing.
A game that stayed with you long after you finished it.
Could be a game with wonderful storyline, superb gameplay (hopefully both).
Not just a game to pass the time because you're bored, but a game that makes an impact.
Anyone else just doesn't find games fun anymore?
Took a long break from most gaming (about 2-3 years now).
Maybe after 30 years its time to put away my controller and keyboard in the closet.
I do feel like I've wasted enough of my life as it is.
Even when I do play I feel incredibly guilty afterwards
