Since the most recent update, does your client have the music feature and have you previously tried the beta?

I tried the beta some time ago for the music feature but ended up opting out because it introduced more problems than features. Fast forward to today when Steam updated and introduced the new UI, icon, etc. I noticed "Music" was listed in the Library dropdown again despite not being mentioned in the patch notes. The Steam Music group seems to indicate that it's still in beta and a friend of mine with the same package version of the Steam client says he doesn't see the music feature. I'm thinking my non-beta client is pulling in beta feature from files leftover from when I was using the beta (aka Steam poorly separating it's release channels).

Mine still hasn't updated. I remain with the black client. :D

I'd have been more impressed if you were stilling using the old, olive green version.

No. Not on this computer.

Hmm, so maybe it's more complicated than just my client accidentally pulling in beta features. Odd that some people have the option and some don't. Now I'm wondering which is normal: having the music option or not having it.

Mine updated, no music option. Never used the beta.

Might it be possible that the music option may be available to those who have purchased soundtracks of games?

Might be... but Music feature by default scans user directories for music... I have some soundtracks (yes, installed) but neither of them is shown on the list.

Nope. I have at least one or two soundtracks.

I have music option in Settings, in Library and in filther. Yesterday I ran manual update (Steam->Check for Steam Client updates). Feature is described in changelog on update. I was in beta 1-2 years ago on different computer. Still changelog on official website doesn't tell anything about it.
My friend who wasn't in beta doesn't seem to have it but he was in quite a rush before leaving home so he could miss it - I didn't tell him where to look in time. I didn't ask him for his Steam version either.

My details (Help->About Steam)
Built: Aug 13 2014, at 14:17:45 (Linux) / 14:19:47 (Windows)
Steam API: v016
Steam package versions: 1407966480

Nothing in Steam details states its beta. I think there was other recent update as well... but I may be wrong. I think it's better to provide info about version and whether someone checked for recent version in comments as there are various Steam versions on different computers - just saying :)

"Feature is described in changelog on update."
Do you mean it listed Steam Music in the popup that appears when an update is ready to install?

I should have mentioned version and OS. I'm running Steam on Windows 7 and have the exact same API and package version as you except mine doesn't mention the Linux timestamp. I don't think there's a difference between an automatic update and manually checking but my client auto updated.

Yes, my client has updated.

No, music is not there.

Yes, I was in the beta several months ago until I opted out because I got sick of the client updating constantly.

I have music under library. Just go to Steam / settings to set it up.

Didn't you have to join the steam music group for that update? I have the new update and the music thing.

Initially, you had to join the group to be eligible for an invite to the Steam Music beta. But even then you had to be running the beta client. It would be odd for them to selectively release a beta feature into the normal update channel based on a group the user is in.

I'd love if they integrated Spotify in Steam. Probably not going to happen, but it would be a cool feature

mine updated too, no music library, never used the beta before.
It's ugly, from the round icon to that white scrollbar, with the dark background.
Why did they had to change it? what we need is a solid steam network, better regional prices, not a friggin poorly made skinjob ffs!

I don't dislike the new icon but I miss how the old tray icon changed to let you know that Steam was downloading something. Also, I don't think the white scrollbar is normal. Mine are still grey and when I tried the beta before, the white scrollbar was showing up occasionally and randomly. I think it's a bug.

I am not in the beta, but I have noticed graphical and interface tweaks to Steam which leave me wondering if my brain is playing tricks on me due to lack of sleep.

Haha. I haven't had too many issues with the new update but sometimes I'll get the spinning loading cursor (Windows 7) when I do something as simple as open the friends list.

Mine has now updated. Music entry in the drop down menu, and I'm signed up for the music beta though never tried the feature as it was previously Big Picture only. Guess its now rolled out in both.

Yeah, they rolled out desktop support around the same time that they opened the music beta to everyone, but it was still only accessible via the beta client.

I never used the beta client. The regular client still had it for a while, but only as part of Big Picture.
