Hi guys,

I am little annoyed with amount of same games appearing on SteamGifts. You have to agree that if you want to see all the games you have to go through many many pages and it's boring and time consuming.

So, I've made a little "tool". It's a website, actually. I am showing all deals from here in a slightly different way. Take a look: http://gifts.isthereanydeal.com

This way you can see all games without duplicates on one page and if you want to see all gifts for certain game, just click the image. You have all info you need with link directly to the gift.

You can search too, it's really fast as it's not loading anything.

New gifts are being updated every hour. (EDIT: changed to 30 minutes)

It's really just a simple tool so let me know what you think. I don't know whether mods will approve this so if you like it, remember the url, just to be sure :)
I think it's really useful in days like these, where we have bazillion DOTA2 and Ship gifts.

It'd be nice to be able to set some filters (particularly for ignoring certain games/DLC), similar to how the SG Addon works, but otherwise the site looks very promising.

Keep up the good work!

Edit: 230 DOTA 2 giveaways, lawl.

I will probably add some filters some time in the future, but I have a lot of work to do to school, so I don't know when it'll be :)

minor glitch: some dlc links go to base game giveaways.

could you be more specific? What DLCs? I'll check it

Another glitch, from the looks of it, game titles with a colon in them seem to return errors, i.e. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Wanderlust: Rebirth, Hitman: Blood Money etc.

What error? It works okay for me. Can't find problem.

Interesting, I just tried it in Chrome and Internet Explorer and it works. I'm using Firefox (specifically Aurora) and when I click on a game which has a colon in it's title I just get an error: http://i.imgur.com/hjhRC.jpg

It might be just an Aurora thing and not present in the latest stable Firefox.

I put a quick fix there. It's weird though, Firefox seems to process URL in some mysterious ways :)
I think this solved the problem with DLCs, too

Awesome, thanks for the quick fix :)

Another small suggestion, it may be better to give the popup overlay a fixed maximum height and a scrollbar for overflow. Case in point, whilst possibly rare, have a look at the DOTA 2 giveways.

I'm aware of this but I think it's better this way. Otherwise I would limit people with higher resolutions and there would be too many scrollbars on the page. And scrollbars sucks :)

Fair enough.

I've not looked at CSS in a long while, but I'm guessing using a div with a percentage height and setting the overflow to scroll is still buggy? Otherwise you could paginate it, but that's probably worse.

Also, scrollbars aren't too bad if used correctly :P

I'm not sure. Divs with percentage height never worked for me, though, so I learned to avoid them :D

You should consider changing refresh time to 30-45 minutes, because there are gifts that are open for a hour only ant they may be not included on your site. Otherwise well done, but I'll still use SGaddon, because I need to filter out like 3/4 giveaways...

Great work! I just hope you asked SG staff since afaik there isn't a public API for the site, so it puts a little bit of an extra load on the site (though based on the speed I'm sure you are using cached results and may end up helping SG by putting less load on their system if users use it). Not saying anything negative, I just personally had a bad experience with someone releasing a script that scrapped my site in a very inefficient way and good times were not had =p.

The layout is less than stellar, but that's all I can say negatively about this. I love you for this site.

Awesome (: Is there any way to makes us log in trough steam api and see the group ones aswell?

1 decade ago
Permalink

I don't think that would be possible. If I'll add log in through steam you would be logged in on my page and not on SteamGifts (from the point of view of the server) so the page has no way to know about group gifts :(

This is pretty useful, especially seeing how slow Steamgifts its for me using the addon with the ship and dotas in the ignore list.
