I was convinced that the advent of the internet and smartphones made boredom extinct, but apparently it's still a thing. Feel free to share boring stories about boredom in this thread!

Just to clarify - I'm referring to the type of boredom which is extended enough for you to become aware of it, not the type that doesn't even register until you do something that interests you a few seconds later.

For how long if I may ask? If it's only for a few seconds until you did something about it, I doubt it can be considered boredom.

2-3 hours. I am at the folks now, not much happening here. Waiting for lunch now, browsing Twitch. :D

The internet must be really boring if Twitch is the most interesting thing you can find (and are still bored with it).

Seriously, the way to avoid this is to have both landline internet and a cellular dataplan. No real chance of downtime if you use different providers.

i actually have that already but the price for data is quite high tbh so i only use that if i really need to use it .. A friend of my friend he actually has 3 different ISP using the landline but he is working with daytrading so he need to have internet at all times me on the other hand dont need it all the time so if my internet dies is not the end of the world just that i get bored if it happend

I sometimes get bored while doing 4 things at the same time...does that count?
Like I'm watching an episode of a series, while waiting for a render, while following a live-stream for sports, and having a game open and paused... :P

I can't remember how many years ago I was bored for the last time, but surely internet and smartphones helped me from getting bored. Maybe, with internet and smartphones, procrastinating takes up so much time from our lives that we can't find time to get bored. Or get anything done for that matter :/

For potato's sake, I can't even make my backlog smaller!!

I assume you have hobbies (at the very least gaming). Aren't hobbies by definition non-boring activities?

I think people get bored more so now than in the past. With advanced technology, internet and our 24/7 smartphones, whenever we don't have it within our reach, we feel 'bored'.

I'm pretty sure it's the opposite. If (like most) you find the internet and smartphones not boring, there's little chance to be bored. Before people even think about it, they're already reaching for their phones.

I'm bored most of the time... I have plenty of things to do and that I enjoy doing, but I guess it is unfulfilling. Bored

boredom will never be extinct. to be bored is not to have nothing to do, it is to not want to do any of the things you can do
as long as we will want what we do not and/or cannot have, we will be capable of boredom
this is a good thing. without boredom how would we ever notice it's opposite?

I agree that "being capable of boredom is a good thing", but actually being bored isn't so great :-)

As always, Kierkegaard said it best:

"How dreadful boredom is — how dreadfully boring; I know no stronger expression, no truer one, for like is recognized only by like… I lie prostrate, inert; the only thing I see is emptiness, the only thing I live on is emptiness, the only thing I move in is emptiness. I do not even suffer pain… Pain itself has lost its refreshment for me. If I were offered all the glories of the world or all the torments of the world, one would move me no more than the other; I would not turn over to the other side either to attain or to avoid. I am dying death. And what could divert me? Well, if I managed to see a faithfulness that withstood every ordeal, an enthusiasm that endured everything, a faith that moved mountains; if I were to become aware of an idea that joined the finite and the infinite."

I come to sg because I'm bored so right now.
Non boring things require friends which I don't have, and I can't talk to people so I'm stuck.

There are plenty of things that don't require friends and are not boring. Instead of coming up with my own list, here's the first thing that comes up when I search for "solitary hobbies". Seems like a solid list.

I'm seasons late with some of the TV shows I watch, and I fear the more I delay it the more difficult it will be to catch up later on.
