For those who don't work out

It's not just getting in shape, but you'll feel better

...and I know that it's hard, but if it would be easy , everybody would do it.

Do you work out?

Maybe tomorow...

7 days a week, alternating between 30 mins of HIIT cardio and 30 mins of free weights.
Being in shape is fun, and it's pretty much free to do! Wish I started 10 years earlier :P

Why be healthy if you're gonna die anyway? Have a sip of brandy, a handful of doritos, light a cigarette!

I used to go for a run every day at 5 AM with a friend, also used to lift weights and play tennis but I lost the will to exercise after some unrelated problems.

I don't work out. Unfortunately it's not always either about being lazy or simply having a hard time accepting that it's not exactly easy (and going for it anyway) or having hard time to believe it's possible and that it will help you feel better. Unfortunately the last thing mentioned - that it will make you feel better is not necessarily true for everyone as not everyone's health situation is good enough in the first place to perform such physical exercises. Some things just never come our way whether we like it or not and we all should be grateful if we actually achieve what we want and always know that there are many others who would like to achieve the same thing, but they won't ever be able to do that.

I stopped believing in miracles long years ago, but I don't blame you if you still believe yourself, we all still have to believe in something.

I actually find it very hard to find the time. I would like to work out, very much, but just don't know when. Monday to Friday, I get up at 6:20 and get back home around 19:00 (and that's not counting other life duties, aside from work). I can do something during the weekend, but that's just not enough.

I would seriously love some help with this, when/how am I supposed to work out?

Thats a loooong work day! Do you have a lunch break? At one job I had, I found a leisure centre in a hotel 5 mins from my office. I was able to get there, change, do a quick 20-25min workout, quick shower and get back to the office in an hour. Then I ate lunch at my desk.

I do have a lunch break, but it's just enough for lunch. Not possible for me to do this, sadly.

Time management is a priotizing problem. If one wants to do something, he/she will make time for it. When things get too crowded, something usually has to be snipped off. You can also try to combine activities. Like reading/doing work while commuting.

Well, unless I could snipp off some work time, I have no idea what to snipp off. I tried to work out in the morning, even though I hate getting up early, but never have the energy to do anything but get ready for work. In the evening, I could try to put something there, but I'm usually exhausted from work. Even if I find the energy to work out, it puts my dinner time to like 21:00 and that's too late.

I know they say that if you really want something, you'll find the time for it... I'm just having huge trouble finding the time and I hate it so much.

Sounds like you need a different job that doesn't suck up so much time!

An 8 hour (plus lunch) worktime is the standard here. I also commute to/from work for about and hour more or less. Pretty much the standard as well. Not much else to go on. Also, I love this job and it's awesomely paid.

You've asked for tips on when to work out but you've ruled out every possibility & suggestion. I think you have to accept the fact that your chosen lifestyle doesn't allow for it or make the extra effort to workout even when you're tired before / after work, or on weekends.

Well, I've more or less come to the conclusion that I'm fukced. Thanks for the tips, anyway.

I work out at home with two dumbbells ( when I started I used bags with plastic bottles filled with water :> )
5 times a week with a focus on different muscle groups each day.
I also run between 2-6 times per week, but that's more for the joy of it.Nevertheless I try to accumulate >30 km during the week.

I do yoga (11yrs already) and feel fine. One extreme static stretch easily beats hundreds of convulted excercises! :)

I am far too lazy to work out. And far too out of shape to justify my laziness =P But still, it persists.

Five times a week for about an hour each time, I mix it up between weights and cardio, usually elliptical or something equally gentle on the joints. I tried jogging but it was hell on my knees, so now I focus on getting the heart rate up and sustaining it rather than one particular exercise. I get bored easily, so I can't stick to just one routine, but I record everything in a log book so the next time I come back to something in particular I know where I was last time. That's the only way I can really track progress.

I also have a "log book" to write down my progress, it's very helpful :)

full body work out @ local gym for 20 bucks per month
3x a week ~ 90min. if motivated extra cardio - could carelessly be reduced to 2x and still be very effective
^ fbwo - effective and time saving ... i don't even consider it a chore, but a necessity like showering or having a meal

I wish I could keep motivating myself to work out, but it's just so repetitive. The closest thing to exercise I get on any form of regular basis is a ~30min walk.
Luckily I was blessed with a body that can handle not working out. While I'm not strong, I'm not overweight, and I can handle carrying 3 days worth of camping gear (including food & water, obviously), and walking 10+km/day with it on, in rough terrain and not feel tired (until I get home, I always end up feeling exhausted when I get home).

I started doing an abs challenge linky
Good things:

  • WIth keeping a little or maybe more rest between the types of exercises, I don't get sore muscles so I can do it every day. At least I could.
    Problems are:
  • I'm damned tired from the university to do every day
  • Allergies. Hell, I'm coughing so much that I'll get sore abs from THAT... and it gets worse from exercises. This is the main reason I hate the september-october part of the year, even though the weather is perfect for the jog, the extra strain makes me wheeze and cough hard for a day :\ Though the exercise would do good, I've also got quite some weight to loose. The old joke really applies to me. I've got a sixpack and a muscular body, it's a pity fat's covering it :D

I don't really call myself a gamer anymore as I don't have that much time left for it. But anyways- I do workout pretty intense and regularly. 4 times a week a 2 Day Split workout routine involving(modified as I cant do deadlifts anymore):
Each workout takes around 1h.
Day1
8x8 pullups (with extra weight added)
dumbbell row
Barbell Curls
bend over Lateral raises

Day2
Squats
Dumbbell Benchpress
Shoulder Press
lateral raises
tricep extensions

On free days I like to do some running and/or a max rep on pullups.
And of course proper diet... results see my profile. Still way to go anyways...

Why cant you do deads anymore? harm your back?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have a small hip displacement which caused lower back pains. It was a tough decision to cancel deads but bend over lateral raises(for lower back), weighed pullups and heavy dumbbell rows are a good substitution and I feel good now :-)
