Cool. Might not like Bethesda often, but at least they aren't expecting we rebuy the game.

Indeed. When I first heard rumors of the remaster, I was confused and annoyed because I would rather have a remaster of the older games like Morrowind. While I still don't trust them after the crap with Paid DLC and other stuff, I'm still a little bit wary of this. A remaster for Skyrim still doesn't make sense and I'm wondering what other crap are they going to bundle with i.

Comment has been collapsed.

Like all the other remasters, it is intended for current consoles. A little higher res and all to justify buying it again and the lack of backwards compatibility that both the PS4 and XBOne had, and the publisher can make money without making a new game.

Doing so with older games might actually require some effort.

Summer sales is coming, u can upgrade to legendary edition...and u can also get legendary edition at 5$ or less in some retail store...

Yeah, summer sale sounds possible, because retail stores in my city are way too expensive when it comes to games.
I actually don't care much, Skyrim is not my thing, I got bored of it in about 10 hours.

At most it will be 50% off. With the exception of that useless Hearthfire DLC.

I don't own the LE, but at least I do own all the DLC. Thank GOD I was about to get a few bucks to get Hearthfire last year. May be utterly useless but after this news I'm glad to have it.

I swear, Skyrim has been on my pc since I got it on release day after being on that midnight release launch line.

I hope it'll be 64bits, so no more crashes when it hits the 3.1GB cap, also DX11.

+1 for this!
It's time they finally decide to keep up with the newest technologies.
Also, the ability to exceed 3.5GB of RAM would open up a Pandora's box of new mods!

Based on the description, it adds a few effects, probably straight integrated from an ENB. And… well, that's about it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's what I was thinking too. It looks like it uses some not-so-heavy modified ENB.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or they just imported code from Fallout 4. About evenly likely, although an ENB can run on a DX9 card, and the FO4 implementation can't (I think… but I recall FO4 being a DX11 game.)

-1 for me, with my hardware I'll never have a chance to play Skyrim then (for now is sufficient), as it stays if I even get a Legendary Edition it will be overridden.

:) Well, I've been using one at work, but since my pay is rather low I'm not gonna spend around 90 dollars for new system. It's all about priorities. Rent, bills, food is more important to me then games and computers. At some point when this will get broken I'll start to collect to buy a new one with 64-bit OEM system.
Current PC fulfill my needs - just don't take Skyrim out of my reach.

You can't, and why would you? It's not replacing your old copy, it's giving you a copy of the enhanced edition.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In tweet it sounds like its replacing my copy and I dont want that. I dont need all these graphical improvements that much and I dont have the hardware for them, my current setup can run it at about 25fps(drops to 19 when theres water).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm just glad this means they won't be making a new Elder Scrolls game for a little while. I'm playing Skyrim with mods and can't imagine I'll finish the game any time soon, this means I won't be behind now!!

Probably won't get this edition though, it likely would be incompatible with most mods out now and honestly if you play Skyrim on PC your game probably already looks like what the special edition will look like.

i just bought skyrim and hopefully they dont up the direct x requirement to 11 or i wont be able to play it :(

Permalink

Sorry mate it's likely Direct X 11 will be required in this edition, and I'm sure DX12 will be an option too. Don't worry about it, you can make old Skyrim look just as pretty with mods

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

DX12 is very, very, very unlikely. They don't have a DX12 engine. And since like two interns are doing most coding jobs at them based on their speed, I would say they won't have one before 2020, unless they license it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's true this is Bethesda we're talking about lol I still wouldn't be surprised that DX11 is required though, or at the very least have some top notch hardware as the recommended requirements

Permalink

At the worst, I'd put the possible new requirements into Fallout 4 range. We'll see, but I wouldn't expect more.

Dunno, the description lists only graphical enhancements, and one of those I think is a DX11 feature. Not saying it will happen, but don't be surprised if that will be the case.

Shiny "new" game with shiny new bugs and maybe a shiny new attempt to introduce paid mods?
Anyway its beyond me why they didnt do special/redux/remastered version of Morrowind or Oblivion...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That takes effort. And money. We are talking about the developer who just tinkered around with an engine for almost a decade instead of just paying the license fees for an updated version. If this doesn't tell you how cheap they are, nothing will.
Also, Skywind. They know others are doing it for them, so they can just take the 40% off after its finished, because I'm pretty sure they will pull it to be a paid mod. So, in the end, instead of investing a few thousand hours, they let someone else do the job and get the money for it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That takes effort.

Exactly. And as someone asked why Bethesda didn't address Oblivion's 10th Birthday much: I think they don't really want to accept the fact that they have other games than their franchises latest games.Haven't heard a word about Fallout 3 since years, since Fallout 4 all previous Fallouts ceased to be because the made a fourth one, no other needs to be mentioned.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fallout 4 is running on an updated version of the Skyrim engine, so my guess is they're simply updating Skyrim to use the new version of the engine as well. This is a minor update compared to the undertaking of bringing Morrowind or Oblivion into a more current engine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Figures as much from publishers PoV. Though if there is no different in the price between Legendary now and Special later it can feels like a waste for PC users.
So seems they are just doing it for the sake of PS4 and Xbone.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We're still getting the updated game for free. But since requirements will most likely be a bit higher (64-bit, DX11) than the current version, they probably can't simply release it as an update to the current game. But yeah, they're probably doing it mostly for the sake of releasing the game on the newer consoles.

And what about nexus mods? I have a "Remastered" skyrim with better graphics even having a shitty computer , new missions? (that would be the only reason for me to update) but I fear the bugs... And another question is the upgrade obligatory for the ones that have the legendary edition?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No it's not obligatory thank god. Pretty sure that the only thing they've added to the game is improved graphics that like you said everyone already has with mods. Skyrim remaster makes sense for console but not so much for PC. I for one won't be upgrading, I don't want any of my mods to be incompatible with the new version

And that's another thing I fear , what about the old mods , that work perfectly , I don't think all modders will upgrade them, so I think I will pass for now

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's the same game still. I highly doubt they touched the scripts, or if they did, they just tried to fix bugs. So if you decide to get it, all mods should work the same, except maybe shader mods.

Did you read the title/tweet that if you already have it, it'll be free? And if you don't have it, while it's surprising that it costs money? o.O

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It should be like this everytime, for free if you already "own it". This remastered versions is just another shitty practice to get more money. I don't know why people is so happy about it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know, while I can't talk in the name of collectors, in some cases I'm happily throwing another few € towards a game I liked - I don't have much time on Skyrim now for example, but played ~100h before I got active on Steam and actually bought it for myself. I know how flawed Bethesda is, but I still love some of their games, and the 13? € I got Skyrim for still feels stupidly great price for what the fun I already had, and I will :)
But yeah, I would prefer a proper remake/remaster. Not just graphics, but integrating the most successful mods by default, like SkyUI, the one I don't remember the name but adds a whole continent to the game.
I'm happy it'll be free, breath of fresh air after the paid mod fiasco. On the other hand, if I would have a proper income, not just a lousy student, I would have bought the remastered Ori and the Blind Forest Immediately, even though it's 3€ for previous owners. I really embrace the "vote your with wallet" ideology - if I like somehing and has a reasonable price, I'm willing to give more for it :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Time will tell about the reasonable price. I hope you are right. For starters is free if you have it, not a silly discout. Wich is nice from bethesda.
I still angry about the paid mods, i guess

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No wonder. While monetary it made sense for Valve and Bethesda take their cut, it ended up ridiculously that both of them got a lot of money for others' work. Especially that Valve refused proper curation (stolen mods, etc), and having FIXES (like SkyUI) as paid mods is a very, very dangerous precedent. It was a really, really interesting part of the gaming history though, heard so many good arguments and discussions about it.

The coding won't have changed, just the graphics so I don't see why old saves wouldn't work

Permalink

Well... Dark Souls 2 had a similar "remaster" with very tiny differences and they made Scholar of the First Sins's saves incompatible with the original game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well that's really shitty. But unless they're implementing paid mods it wouldn't make sense for Bethesda to change the code because not only would old saves not work, mods wouldn't work either. So no one would buy their product. But i don't know

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The difference there was in part a switch from using DX9 to DX11, it's standard for saves between different versions to be incompatible (even within one game that uses both). There were also more than graphical updates involved in that case.

But the game does look amazing..

Even PC users will benefit from it because we can remove a lot of the current mods that bring it up to that level and add in mods that push it even further. Performance will undoubtedly benefit from the removal of some mods.
