Serious answer: People who want to make a giveaway for a few friends can make them to give just to their friends. They are also used for puzzle giveaways, where the people have to solve puzzles (or things they pass off as puzzles) to get to the private giveaway, they can also be dropped in certain chats from time to time. There are other ways too, but those are the main ones, I think.
