Do you regret paying so much
Soulcalibur 6 at release.
Do i regret ? Yes maybe, or no i'm not sure.
When Soulcalibur 7 ?
My personal one is The Sims 4 with all it's expansions. I've bought pretty much every major update until Cottage Living (which I didn't even play yet - lol).
Ah the Sims... You start to buy expansions and soon your wallet is empty ! :p

Yes 100% 121h
But soulcalibur 3 on playstation 2 was much much infinitely better.
But i'm glad there is a soulcalibur on Steam. visible confusion i mean it's better than when there wasn't one !
(there are games that i never finished but were a great pleasure to play ; and others that i finished but they were not the best)
Oh Paradox... so many dlc too.

I wanted to play the Soul Calibur series. I love fighting games, although I don't play them much. Personal favorite is Mortal Kombat 11. I've not played such a good fighting MK in a while. Story was pretty good too!
Does Soul Calibur have a story?

Every character story in Soulcalibur 6 is just in written form. It delighted the fans of the series, but i feel it was like a visual novel.
Take a look to the video above, all the game it's written like this, text - fight - text - fight - etc.
In SC3 we had some animated stages, for example a worksite platform or a dynamic clock. In SC6 all stages are inerts ; compared to streetfighter 5 stages i feel it's quite sad.
In SC3 there was an amazing mode : chronicles of the sword, we moved different types of characters on a tactical map, and we use them to fight so that they could level up. No more in SC6.
But the super accessible and super intuitive gameplay is still here in SC6. It's still a soulcalibur.
Streetfighter you've to learn by heart not so intuitive attacks. Soulcalibur, your character moves on the screen following your controller : direction + vertical attack or horizontal attack or kick or block. And there are many different weapons with different lengths. Unfortunately they can no more be broken.

I don't like excessive gore of fatalities in mortal kombat... but i played first mortal kombat a lot of hours on gamegear looooong time ago. Violence is very stylized in soulcalibur, it's the extreme opposite, it's just aesthetic with a lot of light effects.

I've only played Street Fighter 4, I didn't even know that SF 5 had those cool new areas. I've always been intrigued on the Soulcalibur series, but never played it.
I even own the 6th one and didn't yet play it. ๐
Thank you for bringing that out. I need to play some of my sports games, as I've been neglecting them for other type of games I am playing.

Yeah, I get that, but the story of MK improved a lot from what it used to be. You'll actually enjoy more the character development. If you can ignore that, it makes sense. I find the violence quite stress releasing.

"Sherlock Holmes Crimes & punishments" at full price (30 dol.). It was when the rumor that due to problems between frogware and the distributor it was going to be remove from stores, some years ago (pre Covid-19, maybe). Without remorse about it (well, maybe a little XD)

If you get them on your steam's library, yes, you can. I buyed Crimes & punishments for the fear to never can play it if the rumours were true.
Spoiler: The game wasn't remove from the store. But the developers now are the distribuyers too, so I think the rumour had some real background

Yeah, for PC i just wait till they go on sale, and for consoles i buy a second hand copy a year or two later. A bonus is that by then usually most dlcs have come out and itโs easier to get them all in one big package ๐

Both attack on titans game. It never really went on sale (especially in those main ones) so when I got a big chunk of money I went a head and brought them. This was around the time of also gifting 2 copies of life is strange true colours because of that money so it was like here's my treat and here's yours

yeah sometimes you kinda have to. I havent touched the 2nd game yet but the 1st one was worth every penny. If its a game I 100% have trust in I'll buy them off sale to play right then and there. Like I need to get grisaia phantom trigger 8. Like I'll happily buy that game off sale but when the time comes for me to play

It was one of the only anime series I've watched recently and I've stopped watching Anime, like about 12-13 years ago. I do remember playing Attack on Titans 1 a bit in the campaign area and just recalling some scenes from the anime. It's weird the interface and combat, but it's not a bad game.

All of the games are either through bundles or heavily discounted. Usually I buy a game if I truly truly want it and it falls below 10 EUR

Quite a difficult thing to do. Patience has probably rewarded you well, but there's some games, that don't ever go below ยฃ20-30 even if it's discounted at 50%. Looking at you Red Dead Redemption 2. ๐ณ

Of course this has made me miss out on some great titles.. Read Dead including.
With the prices still crazy I haven't gotten around to upgrading my PC either so I wouldn't even be able to run Red Dead.. Other times I know I wont play the game that much so justifying paying around 30-40 EUR seems a excessive to me..
I see here people have paid a lot more but also played it like 1k hours .... The most played game in my library is around 300 or something hours on ETS2 which I've gathered over the years .. I could go for 100 hours if story is awesome but usually I just finish the story and don't go really into the lore and everything as I don't have time for that..
Witcher was a game I missed out on many years due to this as well. I actually read the books, then saw the netflix series and only then got the game for some 10 EUR IIRC and finished it only last year (and this one I'm replaying fully once I upgrade my PC, so if the same case would apply for Read Dead, I might get that at current price as well)

And did I at any point say it's not worth it? I understand very well how business works and I understand the manpower and time that it takes to make a game and I have nothing to say against the price that is asked for a game.
The thing is about salaries - my country has median salary around 12k a year. USA has it around 34k. Of course living and all of the costs are higher there, but games still cost the same. In my previous workplace I earned 1k a month before tax. Take off tax, rent, fuel, food and 20, 30 or even more 60 eur for a game is just an expense that can't be justified (for me obviously). Maybe that's why I wasn't left with 10 EUR in my bank account in the end of the month but actually had something saved and many people have it even lower salaries then I do...
So for the same logic let's bring up cars - I mean technology and manpower required to build a modern car justifies it's price of let's say 50k. How do you expect someone to buy such a car if they don't earn at least 40-50k themselves? I'm left with a 1000 eur worth rustbucket and just because something is worth it doesn't mean I have enough money to buy something.
Luckily I did start a new work with increased salary and I hope I'll have more expendable money to spend on games. I wont justify that big of a purchase for something that is not a necessity though Same for a PC - some here are buying 3-4k PCs, that is several month salary for me and due to fucked up market I have to overpay for an old PC now so here I'm sitting with 10 yo PC. As for restaurants - I go to restaurants very rarely and in most cases to some place that is below 10 eur. And even then the food is secondary to meeting people.

It's the economy that we're talking here. I've gown up in a 2nd world country, with the economy of a 3rd world country. Living off of ยฃ350/month salary and paying 10% of your salary for just a fame is a dishonor to yourself man. Some people don't understand the struggle to want to play games, not pirate them and also pay the money the developers are asking.
And no, people in 2nd and 3rd world countries don't always go to restaurants to eat. I am speaking from my personal experience and I lived in Romania, Europe.
Life in UK is 5x more affordable. You actually can afford easily to pay ยฃ10 to ยฃ30. If I do a take-away delivery from a fast-food it costs me ยฃ30 to have it delivered. Its a totally different world that not many understand.

That makes sense I guess. It's best to focus on that as it ruins the whole experience. I've put the game down too because my PC wasn't able to handle but the bare minimum.

Well yeah, I mean, this thread is not to compare who has the most money, but to have a retrospective of our purchases. Sometimes waiting for a game to go on sale saves us some bucks, but hurts the developers. You can choose really. I'm more eager to pay full price to an indie company than to a AAA company.

RDR 2 is priced sometimes at ยฃ27.49 (especially now as I write this message) and I'm personally hesitating to buy it. I value my money based on the time I spend with a game. If the game is worth ยฃ10 and I spend 20-50 hours on it. It was totally worth my money. If I don't even play it, it's a waste of money.

Yes, of course :) my intention was not to compare money but the "entertainment" that has been received from said purchase. If someone spends 1000 hours in a game I feel like 100 eur is a justifiable expense (if you have that kind of disposable income). For me as I said it's rarely over 20-30 hours.. so I really watch how much money is spent on a game. And at times you really don't know if it's going to be a finished story within 10 hours and never play it again or constant replayability of 100+ hours
If I don't even play it, it's a waste of money.
That's why I will most likely only consider RDR2 after I've upgraded the PC. No point for it to sit in my library. That role is reserved for hundred of games I get through bundles :D

100 hours is a lot of gaming in my opinion. If the game isn't long, but makes me spend that time, is totally worth it.

Either Sims 2 expansions or the Japanese limited edition of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice. Don't really know because I didn't get all Sims 2 expansions by myself (I was a kid) and the Ace Attorney stuff had shipping and customs that I don't remember the cost of.

I wasn't spoiled, I had to to x amount of chores to get a new expansion! I just can't remember any prices, this was a long time ago... but I had almost all expansions so there must've been some amount of money sunk into it.
One nice thing EA did later was turning Sims 2 into the full edition on Origin, so any DLC you didn't have were automatically added to the game. Sadly I have outgrown the franchise and I just can't get the same enjoyment out of doing random stuff in the game in the same way like when I was little.

Didn't say you were spoiled, but supplied. ๐ My parents didn't understand how important for me was gaming at the time. I had my best friend's father who used to give some copies of games and me and my friend would burn them on another CD/DVD and play the games on our computers. ๐

My parents aren't gamers but they kinda raised me to become one. They got plenty of kids learning games on CD-ROM for me and my siblings to play, and they preferred to take us to McDonald's only when they had books and games in their Happy Meals. I guess they thought we might as well learn to read and count by playing fun kids games instead of only putting us in front of the TV to watch cartoons.

Games taught me a lot and I'm sure they did you too. I'm not a native English speaker, but I've learned a lot from games and in fact, the majority of my English level is due to the fact that gaming was the contributor. I don't watch movies or series much, so I couldn't have learned from there. Games are an important factor of learning. It teaches you to become patient, persistent and ambitious.

I think probably the deluxe PC edition of Assassin's Creed Revelations. I pre-ordered it for some stupid price, and it came with a giant hard-back book of lore. I did have the sense to avoid the version with the statue made of cheap plastic though.
I didn't play it and didn't read the book. Eventually a friend lent me the game on Xbox - I played through it on console for free and needn't have bothered buying it. No idea where my edition even is now.

I've never in my life orderdered a package that contained a figurine and other stuff. I think it's really cool, but I've never found the right game to say: This is it! I'm getting the whole thing. Although, nowadays, I buy Deluxe or Ultimate edition for games I'm 100% I'll like.

Edit: actually, I had every single expansion pack for Sims 2 back in the day (the og game install took four (!) disks, can you imagine?), anyway, so probably it's actually Sims 2, since back then I bought them all as physical copies in stores which obviously is way more expensive.

As worded, the answer to your question is obvious - our house!
But you seem to be referring to video games, specifically. :) I think the most I've spent was on Fallout 3's special edition with the lunch box, or possibly Fallout New Vegas' special edition with the poker chips and playing cards. Fallout 2 was, and probably still is, my favorite game of all time, so I was all-in on the new Fallout games even if they didn't live up to Interplay's classics (FONV came much closer than FO3).
I don't regret it, but I was annoyed that the high-priced special editions didn't allow me to get the DLCs without paying more. And it's been a long time since I paid more than $30 for even the best AAA games. I've just got TOO many backlogged games to justify buying a game immediately upon its release, with rare exceptions.

I'm not in the habit of buying newly released games because every single time I've made a preorder, I've been burned by that game turning out horribly or swiftly going on sale (or even going free to play,) soon after it released and failed.
I have however spent way too much money on individual games in the form of subscriptions to MMOs. One year of playing a game at $10-15 a month definitely adds up. I've gotten a whole lot of play time and enjoyment out of the MMORPG's I've played, but thinking about how much those games have cost me if I were to convert those monthly payments into one lump sum does make you question what a game is really worth.

Wow, thats a lot! I spent a lot of time playing SW and praying for getting the best girl (and after a few years I finally got her.) I loved the concept of the game at first - spending a few moments each time I was bored playing something on my mobile phone. But after all those updates it got really time consuming, at the end I was playing the game only because of their FOMO events, so I quit.
It was a really nice game a few years back^^ Never played anything on my phone just as much as this game.

Yeah, it was a surprisingly fun game. It was a surprisingly balanced game. Spending a "little" got you a huge boost, but for those who wanted to be the best (not me), the return was tragically bad.
I had a similar experience as you. The time commitment became too much, and I had to uninstall.

Yup, it was nicely balanced till it came to violent runes :D Especially when they tried making SW into e-sport, it was quite obvious that skill didn't matter if you got luck and enough procs on your side.
I never really spent anything because all the packs I would want were 250$+ and I found that some crazy prices even though I was really wanted some units. I even convinced 5 or so friends to play with me (or they became fascinated by that game when they saw me playing it, would be more accurate).
I remember seeing JewBagel getting Tiana and trying not to wake his neighbors up, that was really nice^^ He pulled her with a lot of luck from one legendary scroll he bought for 100$ or so, it caused a lof ot people to talk about how streamers have better rng with summons :D

Woah! That can make you think in retrospective. I mean, it's something you can't get back, but the amazing time you spend in those games are totally worth it. In WoW would turn free, I'm sure more people would play it. It's an excellent MMO, but needs a visual lift-up to fit with the current game graphics that some MMO's have.
You may say visuals don't matter, but the new generation of gamers will not pick the old games because of the outdated looks. It's like trying to play a game from 80's or 90's for them. ๐คฃ It would be hard for us to pick a game, although it's a far fetched analogy.
The game still deserves a lot of love. I wonder what XBox will do with the new Blizzard acquisition.

I agree about Dreamfall Chapters(didn't back their kickstarter but I did buy it on steam). I'm a big fan of the other 2 but for whatever reason I just couldn't get myself to play the newest one. I think I installed/uninstalled it like 2 times now, but I just haven't played it yet.

Hi and welcome back to another random question.
Today's topic is quite simple: What was the most expensive purchase you've ever made? This could be a collection you've bought at a really pricy time because you couldn't contain yourself not to buy it or you could mention a game you've bought that maybe is no longer on Steam and had to buy it on a key-shop or something.
My personal one is The Sims 4 with all it's expansions. I've bought pretty much every major update until Cottage Living (which I didn't even play yet - lol).
Anyway, what was yours?
The price for ALL the expansions is ยฃ515.08, without the game, that costs ยฃ35. I didn't pay that much, but I've paid for sure ยฃ150. ๐จ
Update: I came to the realization that I've spent a lot more in League of Legends, which is no surprise. I have played that game for more than 4 seasons, that's about 4 years, every single day, if I could. Based on my calculations I've spent ยฃ231.55. ๐ณ๐
