Please do explain! I can somewhat tolerate it now, but I don't see any value there. People singing how gajngsta thery are while they are not, bitches, cars, kluubs etc.

YOu meant it the other way around, no? :D
Silly child, when you're older, you'll understand just how terrible sort of "music" Rap is! :D

I'm fairly certain that country music is played 24/7 in Hell.

I like some music from both genres, but most of what I've heard is rubbish.

Count me in, just about the two genre I dislike.
Though there are some songs that I do like, but as a genre ? no.

Crossover country-pop is tolerable, but the Scotty McCreery/Jake Worthington style of country just makes me want to spew...

Country and rap is just about as bad as someone scrapping their fingernails on a chalk board or a cat looking for action.

There's no good or bad rap, counting young money out. You my friend don't know the definition of the gangsta rap.
i fuck ya motha- Every single rapper does this
i have all the money- Every fucking rapper brags about money
i am tha big boss of the world- This is what every rapper wants to be but only few current rappers like Jay-z, Kanye, Eminem, KL had the guts to put this in their rhymes
These aren't gangsta man
You want gangsta rap. Listen to NWA, Ice cube, DMX or even 50 cent. They talk about shooting cops, rape, murder, selling dopes etc. Not the things you put there.

Some of us are old enough to have been around when Rap became a new style. (It existed long before then, but it wasn't called "rap.") For some reason, the quality of Rap took a nose-dive in the 90's. As for the Gangsta crap, that didn't even get onto an album until years later.
My favorite Rappers are still Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Back to topic, it seems that a lot of people, these days, have no clue what racism even is, much less how it manifests itself. In the U.S., racism is quite prevalent, but most people don't recognize it when they see it. Instead, the word "racism" gets thrown around like an insult, used for verbal sparring rather than sociological labeling.
One of the best quotes on is "I don't like black people, and I'm not a racist." The guy actually meant it, too.

Referring to black people: "They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves"
Later: "I'm not a racist."
See? He's not racist.

This.
People abused gangsta style just to appear cooler and they only got even more ridiculous.
Comment has been collapsed.
Any attempt to "appear cool" generally results in ridiculousness. It isn't until a person learns to be comfortable with who they truly are that he or she is able to move beyond "being cool" to "being real."

Some people do feel the need to show themselves and everyone else how incredibly open-minded and tolerant they are. That's not limited to rap, though.
I like rap, but only if it actually has a story to tell and the rapper is authentic. Whether it's a white/black/pink/green rapper... I couldn't care less. It's the music that counts.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's a load of horseshit. The only way it'd be racist if if you didn't like it because you hate anything remotely connected to black people. Other than that, it's just musical preference.
And dating a person of color just so you don't appear racist is creepy as fuck. If I found out that someone was doing that with me, I'd be so angry. No one wants to be the token POC in someone's life.

Dude, I've NEVER Heard of anybody in such obligation to like rap. In fact, not even my black bf likes it (but yeah, it's Spain, most people here don't like it anyways).
Inb4 people mixing up Hispanic and Spanish

"in the past Hip Hop was called "stuttering" and was able to get cured" you understand the meaning of it? :'D it's not about the lyrics btw, it just sounds like shit. and good argument, "I'm not smart enough" lol goes in corner and starts to cry buhuuuuuuuu :3

aaand that just there, depicts exactly how big of an ignoramus and bigot you are.you apparently know nothing about hip hop culture, creative ways of expressing oneself or audio harmony. Not all of the rap out there is mind-boggling and utterly dissonant crap. You can't tell me that a true lyricist that has fuckload of flowful, well constructed verses is garbage. You are just in the wrong on this one.Try listening to purely instrumental hip hop tracks, and you'll change your mind in a sec,no doubt about it.

"the meaning of songs"? Honestly, who listens to music for the lyrics? I mean, of course it's better when there's actually a meaning behind the songs and the lyrics are well written, but that doesn't make everything; you're not gonna listen to a song when it sounds like shit to your ears. First comes the rhythm and the "sound quality", then goes the lyrics (implying there are some, because even a song without any lyrics is able to tell you a story and make you feel emotions).

A lot of people actually pay attention to the lyrics when they listen to music, I couldn't care less about that, I just enjoy music as a sound that makes me feel good. Hell, I love the Party Rock Anthem, it's one of my favorite songs, and yet the entire internet is bashing it for stupid lyrics and whatnot.
But then again, I grew up listening to Prodigy, and they aren't well known for their epic lyrics. :P

"A lot of people actually pay attention to the lyrics when they listen to music"
Yeah I know, but what I mean is, there's no way I'd listen to a song only for the lyrics, if the music in the back or the rhythm simply sounds like shit. Working on the lyrics is nice, but you can't forget the rest, whereas the opposite (good sound but little to no lyrics) works a lot more easily.

Hiphop is all about lyrics. Who is the better rapper is determined by who's got the better lyrics and delivery, not who's got the better beat. Many artists can make it sound good, not but very can create great lyrics and make sense at the same time though. No wonder people like you make Semi Charmed Life a hit and then say "hiphop is shit man, all they talk about is drugs and bitches". Don't get me wrong, Semi charmed life is one of my favorite, I'm just pointing out the fact.

Depends what I'm listening to - if it's say, metal, I don't really care about the lyrics so long as they're not completely stupid to the point where it's detrimental to the music.
If I'm listening to rap I'm focusing more on the lyrics.

you know hate is a strong word. Do you really HATE it? and why? or is it cool for metal fans to say that these days? fyi I'm really open to music and I'm just being curious :)

I simply don't recognize myself in that type of music and I take absolutely no pleasure in listening to rap.
To me, music means "instruments" above all, and what rappers do sounds cheap. Then I try to consider the main focus here has to be the lyrics, but nope, I don't think they're worth it most of the time; and if we admit they are, I don't like the way they are used. I listen to music for emotions, for energy, for songs and not for hearing some guy simply talking. I think I have eclectic tastes when it comes to music, but rap/hip-hop/r'n'b definitely are the genres I can't stand (or hardly).
As for the metal fans I was talking about, they were already praising Eminem 10 years ago; I really don't think saying they like him could be some kind of social thing to look or sound cool.

alright. Thanks for sharing your insight. Very well written too :)

I came across this point of a comment on youtube.com. I did not think of it at first and simply thought the person was way off. Now I think about it again. I wonder how many people are following rap trend because they do think it is racist to not like rap? I have a feeling this kind of thinking might be little more common but I hope I am wrong. So, I wonder how many people are doing/following things because they think it would be racist (or input other word) to not do so.
Lol, maybe a more bizarre example could be being part of an interracial relationship because it would be racist to not date outside your ethnicity. This is just an example. No doubt there's at least few out there that actually do this. I am pretty sure there is a word for what I am trying to say. What do you people think?
