I won the same game twice (orbt xl) because I forgot to remove my entry from the second giveaway after winning the first one. Both were big giveaways (750 and 2500 keys) and both were by the same creator.

How can I ask for a reroll or "refuse" my second win? I'm not sure trying to contact the creator would be wise at the moment because I imagine he is swamped after a 2500 entry giveaway. What is the procedure in a case like this anyway?

Thanks for help.

Edit: I just noticed that creator's Steam profile has public comments so I tried asking him, but I'm not sure if there is something he can do personally other than ask support for a re-roll?

Edit 2: Successfully resolved so I'm closing this.

You are aware that if you win a giveaway your entry it automatically removed? So you entered after you won. Ask the creator of reroll and wait.

I'm not sure what happened, I usually activate the key and sync SG with my profile as soon as I win a giveaway.

no, he is talking about the new system, once you ''win" a ga, all the entry that you have for the same game in different ga are removed

Well, I guess it's my mistake then. In any case, I'm trying to correct it, I wasn't trying to cheat the system.

I was getting excited that it was perhaps a bug that could be reported. Hopefully the giveaway creator will reroll when you post a comment asking for it, or else you should leave it unmarked (or not received...)

It probably is a bug. One that can be fixed by force resyncing every time a user marks a game as received.

I'm going to speculate that it could overload the server (even the message notification thing isn't realtime because of server load...). And it would piss private profile users off

I don't think server load is the reason notifications are not immediate, but not wanting to annoy users with too frequent updates.

As for users with private profiles, if the post-win sync fails, it can just be skipped. These users won't enjoy the extra protection against multiple wins, but if they're using a private profile they probably already accept a sub-optimal experience.

Sync after marking means extra 100k queries/month to Valve network. That's probably the limiting factor and reason why syncs are done weekly

Oops, I sync every time I activate a game and mark as received.

Is 100k queries a month really that big of a deal for a service as big as Steam?

Yes. Every query costs them money. In hardware and in bandwidth used. At some point they can come to conclusion that SG is abusing their goodwill and cut-off the access completly for SG servers. Remeber that weekly syncs (if done for all users) generate 4 millions of queries/month.

To put it into perspective. You own gaming machine+internet acess. So is giving $1 bill to a stranger on the street that big deal? And to 2? To 100? What about when one of 100 takes 50?

I see. It makes more sense now, thanks.

Apparently less than 1% of profiles are private.

Wait, now I'm curious: If you win a giveaway, will you be notified immediately upon winning, or does the GA creator have to check the "send key" icon or something before the notification will appear? If the latter is true, that may explain why OP entered the other giveaway after technically winning the previous one.

Notified immediately. The giveaway creator has 7 days to send the key/game

Which makes it all the more curious that if OP was online to enter for the second one, then he saw that an hour ago he won the exact same game. This is either a case of spectacularly terrible memory, astonishing levels of not caring, or a method to enter that requires low human interaction.

I like the way you worded those choices. :D

You have to ask for a reroll

I thought this was no longer possible unless you won via reroll or if you joined the second after winning the first.

Activate one of the keys and mark it as received. In the second giveaway, do not activate the key, do not give the key to anyone else, do not do anything on the giveaway page (I know you know this, but that's for anyone who doesn't know's benefit). Just go to the giveaway page and leave a comment noting that you won it twice and request a reroll.

I activated the first key and marked it as received a week ago. I won't do anything with the second key, obviously.

just reply in the GA you won in and ask the GA creator to reroll

I guess I'll do that. I hope he will see it considering there are ~200 comments.

Support can't reroll without giveaway creator making a ticket

in that case, you could always try to post a message on their steam profile page / add on steam so you can send him/her a message

It doesn't matter since they already read all of the comments.

You can try reaching the creator and ask him to request a reroll. If he's not reachable, ignoring comments etc, create a ticket and the problem will be solved. I'm really thankful for that you didn't try to take advantage of it.

I'll give it a few days and if he doesn't respond by then, I'll try to contact support myself.

Thanks for the link. That's what I'm doing, not marking as either received or not received and asking the giveaway creator to request a re-roll.
