After a month or so away, I've finally got back into the gym again and feeling better for going regularly. Despite this, I've not lost any weight because I'm still eating a lot of bad food. In the past, I've had periods of being very strict with what I ate and saw/felt a lot of good results. I want to try and shift back towards that, but it's difficult to change. So, I had an idea...

I've always found that it's easier for me to change my habits when I am somehow accountable – if I go to the gym with a friend I'm less likely to skip a session because I'd be letting them down. If I'm paying for some kind of lessons, I'm more likely to study because I'd feel like I was wasting money if I didn't, etc.

So, my idea is, I'll set a goal and if I cheat I'll make giveaways. I'm not going to go crazy and try and change everything at once.

Stage 1 - Chocolate
I started with my biggest vice...chocolate! As of 25th June, when I thought of this, I kept track of chocolate I bought. When I bought chocolate I contributed the same amount of money I spent on the chocolate to spend on giveaways.

Stage 2 - Snacks
After two weeks with no chocolate I added more limitations on snacks - no more than 200 calories a day on snacks between meals. Started on 13th August.

Closed Giveaways some basic SGTools rules and anti-bot measures in place

Update 1
A lot of nice comments, I expected more people to suggest I eat more so that they'd get giveaways!
To clarify, I'm not seriously overweight. My aim is to get back to the kind of shape I've had that I know I can reach while still being healthy. As others have mentioned in comments, muscle weighs more than fat, so body weight alone isn't the best way to measure progress. I know the visible changes to my body when I have a lower fat percentage and I'm aiming to get back to that.
Update 2
A month or so on and I've made decent progress. I can see some change and happy with my progress. I use a body fat measurement scale at the gym every now and then to see how I'm going. The numbers aren't super reliable, but it gives me a rough of idea of what's going on. Image below - about 2kg lighter, body fat is down and muscle has increased.
Much later update
Jan 2020 - I haven't been updating this post and I'm not gonna bump it, so I doubt anyone will check this but...another update photo below. I'm about 5 kg lighter than when I first posted. I've actually been lighter than this, but this is a weight I've stagnated at. I'd need to make bigger changes if I was gonna drop any further, I think.
Photo lists estimated figures for (top > bottom) weight, body fat %, fat weight in kg, lean mass in kg, muscle in kg, water in body(?) in kg, bone in kg

I can give you 1 advice.

Instead of eating chocolate or snacks between meals eat apples, oranges, bananas, carrots etc. fruits and vegetables will keep you full while also being great for your health and weight.

Snacks even salty ones have great amounts of sugar that your body will have to change into fat.

Interesting to see no height mentioned, unless I'm blind. Anyway, seems good.

Oh wow, that makes you underweight now then. You better not be looking at losing any more...

Uh, whoops, your weight is the top measurement? Well that’s not too bad then :)

Congrats on being lighter and on staying away from chocolate

Plateaus are not unusual in weight loss. Sometimes you need to reboot your metabolism by changing your diet for a week or so and try to mix it up a bit. Exercize is always a good thing if you feel up to it, and I don't mean necessarily the kind that has you in a gym sweating over machines in bright colored outfits. If you like dancing, put on some music and dance for a bit. Or take a walk or a bike ride, or a swim, whatever makes you happy and makes you less still in your day.

Good luck and again, kudos on making it that far!

My outfits aren't brightly coloured, but I do sweat over machines! Do a bit of kickboxing too.
I'm considering rebooting this thread with exercise logs. I don't know if it would work very well though and it would probably only be interesting to me!

Hey you never know, you may have a few people interested too but really what matters is that it makes you stick to a schedule.

Well, if you have problems keeping your exercise schedule, we will sure be here to help by participating in the appropriate GAs ;)

Seriously though, just congratz:)

Am I reading it right, that you need to let go of just 2kg to get within the optimal BMI range?

Probably around that for the BMI. I'm not a big fan of that measurement guide, I think it's inaccurate for a lot of people as it's too simplified. Saying that, 2kg lighter would be good! :)

I should probably clarify what the sections I can read mean or add a translation at some point
