Edit:

Giveaway Ended, Thanks everyone for the comments, hope i can get back to gaming and enjoying it soon ^-^

Hello...
So basically my steam stats says it all, i have played only 2.9 hours past 2 weeks..... :(
I don't know exactly what the fuck happened but for the past 1.5 years I haven't been playing video games as much as I used to, It's part due to the fact that I have to study and work at the same time now and I don't have as much free time but It's not the main reason, I have the time to play video games but it just feels like there is no interesting game out there, I still follow the gaming "world" :| though. news, trailers, youtubers, etc. but when it comes to playing games myself nothing seems interesting, and that's the weird part because there are definitely games i want to try, when i see videos of some games I'm like "shit that game looks fire I have to try it" but then when I get close to trying the game... Its like games have become fun to watch but not fun to play, and I hate

And I really really miss gaming, I found some of the best friends I've had in my life when playing video games, some of the best and most memorable moments I've had in my life were because of video games.
I've been studying more, working and going out more (and according to people "doing actual things" more) but let me tell you, it's hasn't been fun :D There are definitely other things I enjoy but non of them compare to my "gaming days" :| , I think It's because i basically grew up with video games, the group of friends i had were all into video games and that's what ours lives revolved around, gaming...

But then I got to try the Nintendo Switch a few weeks ago, and I'm really really excited about it!
when Nintendo Switch was first announced my reaction was "meh...". I can say I'm pretty familiar with nintendos IPs and consoles but the wii u was a failure and i had a 3DS but it became boring to me after a few months, even after switches full presentation last month i was still negative about the whole thing but after trying it, it just feels great in hand, and the new Zelda game is just sooooooo enjoyable to play, I played it for just around 30 minutes and i legit didn't want to stop playing, i was so sad when they said my times up :( I didn't pre order it but im completely sold on the Switch and specially Zelda, It's the first time I'm excited about a game in the last 1.5-2 years and it just feels great!

And now about why i decided to write all these here, SteamGifts was one of the last communities i joined and got attached to it, it was mostly because of trading but the community itself was great, so many friendly users and so fucking many hilarious discussions!
i don't know how it is now because almost all my closer friends i know from steamgifts/trades have stopped trading, i just wanted to write all these and kinda thank the community. Here's a random giveaway(requires lvl2), one of those games that i really really want to play but i couldn't get myself to actually play it :/

Thanks for reading...

Well... I guess it's because we are growing up. We are more like a man then boy. When we actually have time to play, the first thing comes up or follows up is "I still have work/ assignment to do later".

If you want to come into game world again, you have to return back to a boy, who will not consider anything during gameplay.

I totally feel you. I work, study and try maintaining a one person household and it's just that I don't feel like the energy is there to play video games anymore. I have the time but it's easier to just watch a tv series, youtube videos, etc. Sometimes I just end up sitting down in my sofa for a solid ten minutes just doing nothing.

Starting to get back into hearthstone though and I can generally find time to play a round or two of hyperrogue if I feel like gaming since both games don't require a lot of energy or presence.

It pretty much happens to all of us at some point :)

We'll always come back - maybe not to the same degree, but it's nice to be able to, even if for just a little bit.

I feel the same. Consequences of growing up unfortunately. Or depression. Or both. Probably both.

As long as you're still interested in something, I don't think it's a problem. You'll probably come back to it, but if you find something else that interests you more, that's fine too.

How about playing games that can be beaten in 2-3 hours (or even far less)?

Also, you may want to listen to this podcast :-)

I found some of the best friends I've had in my life when playing video games, some of the best and most memorable moments I've had in my life were because of video games.

All of my good friends I met through gaming. Way back before everyone had internet, there were these things called BBSes. I didn't get to go to college right after graduating high school because of, well, life. Instead, I had to get a job. There was a local BBS that had a message board that showed when logging where you could post messages for other users to see. Doom2 was the latest game, and it supported dial-up coop and deathmatch. One day, I decided to post my phone number and said to call me if you want to play deathmatch. Surprisingly I got a within a day, but he probably didn't have much fun. I played with mouse and keyboard and he was obviously using just the keyboard. After a couple of hours of playing he didn't have a single kill, so we quit and I never heard from him again. I eventually got a call from another person, and we were much closer matched. He had a room mate at the time and we'd take turns playing deathmatch over the modem, and we became good friends.

Not long after that, dial-up ISPs began moving in replacing the BBS. It grew to about half a dozen of us still playing 1-on-1 over direct dial-up with each other. Duke Nukem 3D came out and it was even more fun to play. Then we decided since it supported up to 4 players to get some network cards and bring our computers to one house and do some 4-player, and that was the start of it all.

Quake came out supporting more players. One of these friends had a place where he worked that we could use for regular LAN parties. At first we'd organize over email, message board, IRC, etc., and eventually it just became a weekly thing where instead of asking who's coming, you only posted if you couldn't make it. Somehow word got out about our LAN parties and other people just started showing up. At its peak we had at least 16 people every weekend. It was a whole weekend deal too, we'd start showing up Friday evening with our computers, call it quits around 3-4am to all go home and rest, then pick up Saturday evening and go again until 3-4am. We played deathmatch, team deathmatch, and then CTF when that came out. This continued on through Quake 2, but eventually netcode in games improved so it became possible to play over the internet, even on a dial-up connection. We were able to put up a server at a local ISP, and eventually the LAN parties died out.

Those were the good days, but all good things come to an end. Most of the people I became good friends with during that time were about the same age as me and for whatever reason, they didn't go off to college immediately too and were working instead. Eventually some of them went off to college or moved. I actually had a good paying job working with computers despite being self-taught, no formal training or college education, but I had become unhappy with the work. I applied for and got offered a job with a really nice salary. The money would have been nice, but I didn't see myself being happier at the new job so I turned it down and went off to become a broke ass college student for a while.

I still play games, mostly single player though. I do sometimes play multi-player games with random people, but I really miss playing with friends. Of all those friends I met through gaming those years ago, none of them play games regularly anymore. For a while I did occasionally play coop with a couple of them, but now I hardly see them on anymore.

Motivation is my biggest problem. Sometimes I just don't feel like it. Or other priorities interfere. But there are still time I enjoy games. Playing risen 3 now, and it's fun again.

I'm in somewhat similar situation just to a lesser extent . I still play and enjoy games but not on level i've used to. Some games still manage to grab me very hard but that's rarity these days. I can enjoy gaming only then i'm well rested and dont have to go out and do some work in 30minutes , so thats saturday's and sundays mornings monstly , i get distracted later in day. Not playing a lot then i get back work, never in a mood.

I felt the same way for a long time and still do sometimes. It is only when I find a really good game that I enjoy a lot that I am able to get back into playing again without feeling like I am forcing myself to play. I think it has a lot to do with modern games repeating the same thing over and over again. We need new games with new ideas that are fun to play. This is why I love indie games.

Here's my comment from another thread. It has to do with being addicted to counter strike and not wanting to play other non competitive games, but I also feel the same as you do and mention that a bit. There are also other posts in this thread that talk about the same thing you are going through.

You are not alone, here are some more threads I just found:
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/xi6a0/ive-lost-the-will-to-game
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/epRKt/gaming-add-burnt-out-what
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/AIPXH/what-to-play-when-gaming-isnt-fun-anymore-is-it-over-tell-me-about-a-game-thats-worth-a-damn

Edit: Another reason I sometimes have a hard time starting a game is because I know how long some of them take to complete and I like to finish games I start. I often don't want to dedicate 20-60 hours to a single game and I don't like to give up on them, so I lose the desire to start those. Try this, go to howlongtobeat.com and sort your games by length (just enter your steam id half way down the page). Look through the shortest games you own (under a few hours) and pick out a game that looks the most interesting. Try and play this game knowing that you only have to invest 2 or 3 hours to complete it. When I feel like you do, I can sometimes find the ambition to play short games and I really end up enjoying the game which makes me want to play another.

My hours also dipped hard in the last year and a half. Working, studies, working at home and a lot of fatigue.
I know for myself that working out helps. It smacks down stress, boosts energy, makes the sleep better and produces happy hormones.
This works for me, this is what I can suggest - jogging, climbing stairs, push-ups. I started from this and even with the dedicated 2-3 times a week for some gym, I have the time to play an hour or two every other day, because I recoup faster after work and need less rest after a hard work day ( =

same feeling about games. My "ToDo"-list in steam geets bigger and bigger, i even installed some of the games that i got because theyre great (supposingly), but when hovering the play-button it dont click it. Then i go to SG and stuff and strolling around in the discussion instead or do something productive... maybe a matter of growing up (mid-twenty now) or just.... I dont know...glad im not the only one who lacks motivation to get a game started...

Try physical exercise. 30 minutes of cardio a day with 30 minutes of weight lifting. Will boost your health obviously, give you more energy, lift your spirits, and reinvigorate your interest in things you used to like, exercise does wonders for you.

FitnessBlender is a good YouTube channel to check out.

Also remember that this is a sign of depression, losing interest in things that used to bring you joy. (Exercise will also help combat this)

Or you could just be changing/maturing as a person, you won't always like doing the same things.

Wishing you the best buddy

same here, game do not give former pleasure. Only play with friends online, for the sake of communication on the microphone of them. Online in Steam or game we see each other more often than in real life, lol. Maybe this is the age? How old are you?
