[EDIT]

Alright new idea - You will be able to inquire whether or not you have the right answer to one of the questions, through links.
Thanks wbarton! Great idea!

no, through links. one link leads to another question.

sounds good, but links would have to be on an external site. Otherwise linking straight to last question would break the puzzle. Could work better if answer from previous questions gave insight into solving the next. For instance: The 3rd letter in answer to question 2 is the same as 5th letter from 1st answer.

not a bad idea but a bit difficult to implement when coming up with questions I think.

That was a really sneaky puzzle, but maybe you should up the difficulty a little since I pretty much zoomed through all 5. Becomes quite easy once you spot the first clue. Oh right, many thanks as well Tzell!

Oddly enough, only 35minutes and there're already 5 people? Some people are amazing...

I've thought of something like this. Have you considered using URL shorteners? You could give people most of the shortened link for each clue except for the character that goes into the giveaway URL. Then, once they have the answer, it would go to a page with a message confirming that they have the correct answer for that question ("you're getting warmer" or whatever you like).
Pros: People know when they've finished one clue correctly and can focus on the others.
Cons: Some people will just brute force some or all of the characters.

That is a great idea actually! I think I'll use that!

No, this is too easy to brute force in.. Your first idea with chained questions sounds good, but there are much more ways of making puzzle giveaways that don't include questions at all.. (questions/google giveaways are boring).. Be creative

why would it be easier to brute force? yes there are many ways of making puzzles but I don't want to torture people with integrals and solving polynoms :P

if you are looking for only one char, thats only 10, 26, or max 62 possibilities for each step.. easy for someone who doesnt have an answer to try them all out..

The inquiry will require a full answer, so people wont brute force it

Yeah, the way I was talking about would have been easy, but using a full word answer gets around that. The way I described, well normally if you were trying to brute force a whole giveaway link, you'd have to try 62^5 or 916,132,832 potential combinations. With the method I described, that would become 62+62+62+62+62 or a mere 310 possible combinations. Even at 10 seconds per attempt, it could be done in under an hour. Your modification is a great idea, though. Glad I could help! :D

I saw something like this once - someone made multiple giveaways and each one had a clue to the next. It was a lot more fun than the usual.
