Giving away that specific game, which generated a controversy about supporting Rowling's TERF stance, specifically for the International Women's Day, kinda feels like a statement about how trans people don't belong among women and I sure hope this is just a misunderstanding on my part and it's not actually intentional :x

I chose not to follow social media controversies. To me the game is just a game. If I wanted to make political statements, I would make political statements. This is just a puzzle and a game to me. Whatever the world thinks about these things is out of my control and I choose not to worry about it.
Social media and twitter specifically have become a place where people just pick a hill to die on. Not my thing.

I also thought 'yikes', but TBH I gave up trying to have real conversations in 'gamer' circles a long time ago. Just the fact that this is the only discussion here about 8M should tell you what kind of ambient you're in.

There is so much to be said about this, and this particular thread and action, but it will all just fall on deaf ears and you'll probably get angry reading the stupid replies. But I will wet my toes in this murky water here just a bit by saying there is no such thing as separating art from the artist, and "it's just a game to me" doesn't mean it's actually just a game. These are just facts, and whether people like it or not, or want to accept it or not, your actions of supporting someone like Rowling is damaging other people. Hogwarts: A Legacy Of Hate.

It is a tough position, most people don't want to fund hateful people or hate groups, but Rowling is already worth a billion dollars. I don't know how much she stands to gain from royalties from this game but while I'm sure it's a lot, it's probably also a drop in the bucket compared to what she's earned (and still earns) from books / movies / merchandise / other games / universal studios / who knows what else. It also takes money away from everyone else who stands to profit from the game, though in this case I wouldn't worry about that too much since I'm sure the developers were paid for their time already, and I'm sure Warner Bros will be fine.
Anyway, not trying to justify it or anything (haven't bought it myself), and I certainly don't agree with marginalizing anyone, I just wonder how much of an impact not buying this game will have on her livelihood. Either way I'm sure I'll get it once it's in a bundle someday, so she can have the $0.05 or whatever small percentage she'd get from that :)

The game certainly looks promising and I wouldn't want to prevent anyone from playing it if that's their wish (although I'm personally refraining to get it, at least for now). It's just that the timing of this particular thread felt a bit curious, but apparently OP didn't mean it as a political statement and I have no reason to think that's a lie so I guess the particular climate surrounding that game just got to me :x
