"Hogwarts Legacy has been a long-awaited game, both for gamers and Potterheads alike. Based on the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, the game had been first hinted at a while back, making fans excited about it. The game was set to launch on PlayStation, Nintendo, and multiple other platforms.

Now that the game is available for early access, Twitch streamers all around the world can have a go at the game. However, that experience has not been going the best. According to gamers, playing the game on stream has led to them being highly cyberbullied and put them at risk of being bashed just for trying the game out (and spoilers are being spammed).

Streamers Step Away From Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world adventure game that lets gamers enter the world of Harry Potter once again and be part of the Wizarding World. But streamers on Twitch, who have early access to the game, are now avoiding playing it under any circumstances. They are being endlessly harassed and bullied for playing the game or even trying it out. No matter how big or small the streamer may be, they are getting a lot of hate for playing the game."

https://fandomwire.com/its-not-worth-getting-bullied-endlessly-major-streamers-already-avoiding-harry-potter-game-hogwarts-legacy-due-to-relentless-cyber-bullying/

Please keep it "clean" (probably won't happen) but i think we are all hitting a new low by saying you support JK Rowling, a transphobe, so buying the game makes you one too, hate the artist not the art.
Also from what i gathered WB did allow the game to include a transgender person.

To "relevate" that..

I haven't seen anyone I follow being harassed just for playing the game, but I've no doubt that it's happened. It just doesn't seem as prevalent as the harassment towards trans folks. But any sort of bullying and death threats are not okay.

Edit: I found something on here, with people being outright shit about trans issues, and one person on Twitter telling someone the US deserves a "Jenga tower to collapse like Sept." I reported that one.
Edit 2: There's a few being shits about the very slim possibility of this maybe getting GOTY, but everything is so much more tame than it was when this was first released thank god. There wasn't another streamer hit list made.

Makes sense. People who believe in diversity are the worst discriminators. People that fight for women's rights can´t define what a woman is. People that fight against racism are the worst racists. People that fight for human rights want to kill the most vulnerable humans. And people that want you to let them do whatever they want seem to be really eager to shut down everyone who doesn't agree with them. Like all the people that will BL me just for having a different opinion.

Have you heard of the paradox of tolerance?
Additionally it looks like many people just make up their mind by listening to the loudest voices in social media (including cancel culture), but these usually are neither very reasonable nor depict the majority's views.

Thanks. Great quote:
"While an intolerant sect does not itself have title to complain of intolerance, its freedom should be restricted only when the tolerant sincerely and with reason believe that their own security and that of the institutions of liberty are in danger." John Rawls
No one is 100% tolerant, but it strikes me that those who eagerly demand it, behave worst than those they attack. It's about time to stop the nonsense.

So JK Rowling reads the news, and sees an article that tries to reinterpret biology, and decides to add her 2 cents.
A very loud minority that has gone so far left they ended up spewing something akin to far-right rhetoric decides to cancel here...
And now streamers can't play Hogwarts?

Actions like boycotting this game makes more people "transphobes" then whatever JK Rowling could tweet.
Some people on twitter are so stupid that sometimes I wonder is this some alt-right provocation going on there or they are for real.

Eeeehhhh... 50/50. There are quite a few profiles that are obviously taking the piss out of social justice, and also a lot of alt-right people trying to act like aggressive trans folks just to start shit. They tend to have a ton of tells. But there's also a ton of legit trans people and allies shitposting spoilers everywhere. I can't even step five feet on Twitter, without bumping into one.

From what I have seen, most streamers have some kind of moderation system in place, so they shouldn't have to put up with any bullying for long. Just ban the bullies.

Shit is crazy bruh. Harvard Medical School is offering a course in OBGYN, pediatrics to identify LGBTQIA+ newborns and 'infants' (The course instructor, Alex Keuroghlian (who identifies as “non-binary”), openly advocates for the permanent alteration of the bodies of gender-confused children. He has published multiple opinion pieces calling for a ban on alternative solutions for dealing with gender confusion.) This was fact checked as false, so it must be true.

Before 1946, Americans identifying as LGBTQ was 0.8 percent. Every generation onward has exponentially increased it's mental illness. Kids born between 1997-2003 identify themselves as LGBTQ 20.8 percent of the time. I doubt they will breed themselves out suddenly.

Anyway, these drag/trans people love children, they are more easily manipulated to join their sick cult. But then again, maybe you are right and they do it out of hate. I agree that people in the future are going to think WTF happened, but some homies are gonna read our conversations and know that it was a loud fringe minority that thinks it was normal to mutilate kids when they are still too young to even understand what gender or sex even means.

I liked to play with dolls, I'm happy my parents didn't cut my dick off. Anything for pointless likes these days. BTW, if people are gay or lesbian, you do you, that's great. As long as you don't kick puppies or groom kids, all is good. If I was a woman, I'd probably be lesbian, that's how much I love wahmen.

It seems far more reasonable and less hateful to me than the things that are being said about her and her fans.

Yeah and i feel dubious about it there, gonna cancel a thread about talking about cancelling? I agree some go far, and in return i got my share of blacklists while i am just the messenger, but whatever. This is not just the internet where anyone can just type something, this is actually also a reflection about human society today, this time it hit a game (on steam) therefor i thought/think it's relevant.
I feel the video i posted also really just reflected it well and shortly, as to others if indeed some go too far there are mods for it, i am not.

What do you want then, just threads about deals, bundles and group recruitments? Can't seem to talk about much else anymore else these days.

I know you mean no harm. But clearly folks have lost it in here. And it's not gonna stop. Mods or no mods. But hey, if you feel it's worth it...

Canceling a thread is not a bad thing, when it's become a bulletin board for hate.

It's not about what I want really. I'm just here to point out the gasoline trail.
There are plenty of shiny happy topics. Drama is just easier.

Some. There are also enough people (even a trans person) in this thread that aren't swearing, give their (proper) perspective, where people can ignore those they don't agree with (or most likely blacklist).
I kinda hate how we can't have other topics anymore without the "gasoline trail".
I been bullied in school so i know fully well how it feels, and i don't condone it on any side.

99% is really deals/bundles/group recruitments offcourse there will never be drama there (except the oh this bundle cost me way too much, oh garbage games).. Fact is we simply can't have any thread anymore where it goesn't go into drama.
Often people say well this place is "dead" so i try to bring in game news, some get barely comments (or ignored) or they end up in stuff like this.
This is not by far the forum we had 4 years ago, let alone 10 years, and it won't come back, it's a reflection how the world has changed the last years, dramatically, and not for the best.

There's a lot to be said, but people are too busy dishing out the same old cold leftovers week in and week out no matter how many times they're debunked or debated, starting from scratch every time they have a new opponent to posture towards or sympathetic ear to parrot towards. It's an endless battle of attrition and trying to have a lucid, articulate, adult discussion on the subject ends up like pulling teeth.

Without wading back through the "Why do you think JKR is transphobic?" cesspit full of sea-lions, I think my own opinion is summarised pretty well via Steph Sterlings take on the whole thing, but its a long 26 minutes if you intend to watch it with intent (rather than listen to it in the background while you play something). It's nothing that hasn't been highlighted repeatedly though.

No, it's not right to harass streamers. But I can stand by that while also understanding where the anger that drives the harassment comes from, and how much built pressure it took to get people to lash out like this (disregarding the obvious trolls, fringe individuals on a hair trigger, etc). Its not necessarily about this one straw that broke the camels back. We can absolutely condemn harassment towards streamers while also acknowledging the sources from which the fire was started, whether misguided or justified, whether mindful or spontanious, whether provoked or collateral. Painting things in black and white may be far quicker and easier, but that seldom results in anything more than caricatures; which can resemble something approaching reality, but not a good idea to base your actual enduring adult evaluations upon.

Scrutiny should be proportional and lucid. Having to wade through the endless layered dishonesty just to broach this subject from square 1 every time someone feigns ignorance to the nuance is beyond tiring, especially when most of us have limited free time to expend. Hence the impulse to fire cheap shots and make the situation more insufferable, or just plain worse.

Acknowledge the harassment is wrong, but don't then just close your mind off just because the squeaky wheel got the oil. Because that's a lot like being annoyed at people being "uppity" without bothering to check if the situation kindled from something worth noting. Maybe also acknowledge the harassment that primed this unnecessary lashing out towards innocent streamers, and the mechanics of all the underpinning bullshit even further beneath. This is all a symptom of a deeper conflict. And yeah, it's unfair that streamers got caught in that, but it's also unfair that the same people scoffing at JKR's detractors are those who seem to have no qualms with when she publicly says shit about trans advocates being predators / predator enablers / etc. When you couple the "Harassment bad" with "They have no reason to be angry about their own harassment", it comes apart, and enters the "They should shut up and stop rocking the boat" territory.

So consider : Not every ante has to be 'all in'.
You can disagree or condemn something without then also dashing to the next alt-route checkpoint of "also wokeism is sodomising family values and endangering children and destroying society and-". Doing so kind of reveals the real hand you were so eager to play, and how this was just a fun excuse to dig out the segue ad nauseam. I mean I shouldn't grump too much about that, because it's awful nice of the bombs to flag themselves when playing minesweeper, but the pretense of rationality while failing to acknowledge the most basic of contributing factors is frustrating.

Agreed 100%! And I'm also adding a +1 to the recommendation of Stephanie Sterling's video, too. It's a very worthwhile watch.

Edit: This, right here, is totally how I feel about the issue. "Not a single one of you are under any obligation to refuse this game. I'm not demanding it of you, and I'm not going to say you're an inherently bad person for it - but I do not trust you. I can't count on you, can't think that you have our backs, I can't feel safe with you. And sorry, but you don't get to feel hurt by that."

That's the sad thing in all of this. This 'discussion' (like to many) seems to be 'either this side or that' when there's a lot of things going on at once. I understand why people have a problem with Rowling, but targeting players/streamers that play a game based on the Harry Potter IP that Rowling wasn't even directly involved in (except for royalties) seems a bit much. But on the other hand some of the posts here that are actually transphobic quite clearly show where this stems from. It's a mess.

I am enjoying hogwarts legacy it is very fun and anyone should play it. Also it has a trans in it and 2 lesbians. Clearly it is not as lgbtphobic as you thing. To me it sounds as you have a hate boner at JKR over her having different opinions. But guess what its ok to have different onions they both can be valid. If society was healthy they would just agree to disagree.
