So i made my way to level 6 and i had it for a little while and today i realized i wasn't that level anymore. Now i haven't done anything bad and all the people who won a game have marked it as received but i still lost XP.

I'm assuming it goes down from time to time so that it encourages you to keep giving away games if you wanna keep your level?

If that right i will delete this thread I have just been wondering :)

Also, i will be making a video on how to get free steam games and refer this site I've already gotten people here from another video i made so hopefully we can add some more generous people onto this amazing site :)

BTW I need to know why the level goes down before i finish the video, im trying to be as informative as possible.

Thanks so much steamgifters!

Something you gave away must have been reduced in price after you gave it, which means you "lost" that difference. The CV is dynamic, so if you give something away and it's reduced in price a year later you still "lose" that XP.

EDIT: Made a mistake and thought it counted bundling too, but that's incorrect and it only counts actual price reductions, not bundle CV reductions.

oh right, thanks so much for the info. Didnt think about that. :)

That's not how it works.
If you have given the game out before it was "bundled" you don't lose anything.

Since when? The game checks the CV value dynamically, unless I'm missing something. That means if something enters the bundle list, the CV you gained from it is reduced. Is that wrong?

Your CV for a bundled game is reduced only if you've made a giveaway after its "bundled" date shown here.

Yes, that is wrong.
The price reduction from a "bundled" game is only deducted starting on the day when it was "bundled", all giveaways before that don't get the reduction.

Alright, I'll edit the post then. It DOES still reduce from "price reductions", though, right? I assume that's what happened to OP.

That part is right and that seems to be what happened as Shadow of the Mordor got it's price reduced.

They are right about bundle date.
If I make giveaway in January, and game appears in bundle in February, I'll keep full CV.
But if I make giveaway in March, I'll get bundled-CV.

BUT. Some games get "bundled" much later after they were with high discount (-95% of US price, so more or less everything that appears in Russian Steam for around -85%, sometimes even -75%).
And if you create giveaway in January, but in July it will be found out game had big discount in December, then your normal CV will change into bundle CV - since your January giveaway was created after December Date of Bundling.

Not wrong - SG does dynamically check against Steam for a game's value, so CV for non-bundled games may also change if the base price for a game drops on Steam. Bundled games are generally sold outside Steam and are therefore (I believe) added manually, which is why CV-adjustment for those can be retroactive.

Bundled game giveaways give 15% of their CV retroactive to the date of bundling. If your giveaway ends before that date and time, you get full CV.

Giveaways that receive full CV are tied to their value in the Steam store. When the value of the game goes down on Steam, your CV for giveaways of that game follow suit.

It could be that one of your games went to the bundle list or that the price of it changed.

Actually you keep loosing cv by gifting mordor again and again. Look here.
Hate that rule as it means you're probably stop gifting it, the game is good and I still didn't win it from you. :D

Nah, if you really want to gift a game, you just keep doing it, regardless of CV. I have a few HOGs I sent almost a 100 keys of by now, Still didn't stop doing it.

This is a problem in SteamGifts' system, it needs to be corrected. Either the system needs to record all Steam retail prices when you donate games and stick with that, or it needs to drop all that and just have it finalized that you donated X and Y, and got Z level from that, and stay there.

Atleast it's good that they didn't mark it bundled as there was a price bug (if i'm not mistaken) on it on the sales in some countries.

True that. Not as Barbie-good. But good good.
We students have to stick together and fight our money addiction to spend some of it on games.

Just check up on your winners more. One of them has ran away with or immediately regifted 9 keys in the past 2 months; more than enough for a permaban on this site.

I lost one level also. Somehow "Sam & Max 301: The Penal Zone" was reduced from 20 points to 0 (2 months after GA ended), but Im sure that HB key provided access to all 5 episodes (Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse). So Im not sure if this situation occurred due to a bug or this game was free at some point.
Interesting point, if I enter any GA, there is a link to Steam/GMG or any other page. Now on Sam & Max page those links are not available anymore. I believe that this specific title was removed from Steam list, SG synchronized this list and removed points because it simply could not detect MSRP/Steam price.
Please correct me if I`m wrong.

Well for me Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor doesn't show up with a price either and it never has so i don't know what thats about. You could be right

Because Devil's Playhouse got its own store page under a new appID, 901399. It used to be the store page of the first episode, and all other episodes redirected there. Now the original appID is hidden behind the new store item, reduced to free status.

Thanks for the reply. Basically it confirmed my theory. I just wonder: in similar situations previously, did SG support fix such cases and change ID to correct one?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In these cases someone (I assume cg) has to manually enter a value next to the original appID, essentially permanently overriding its price. I don't know if there is a support ticket category for this.
