So last week I got a 1 week suspension for not activating 2 games.
1 was all the way from 2018 and the other from October 2019: https://imgur.com/MHuCbuz
I personally think its a bit ridiculous for getting suspended this late as the rule of activating won giveaways is a total joke as it just goes to show people dont even check it that often, so why make the rule if you dont have a system in place which is able to verify that, if you cant implement that maybe change the rule to something like 30 days?

All in all fine I did break the rules (not intended to), I had my punishment of starring to my suspensions 7 days long.
But on the day I got banned I also won an giveaway, which I was not able to claim due to my suspension and because it most likely took to long for the giveaway creator for me to respond I got blacklisted: https://imgur.com/QM3RGbr

Now coming back to my punishment of the 7 days suspension, I think thats perfectly fair, but maybe let a giveaway creator know when a winner has been suspended for whatever reason so the one being suspended has not to be blacklisted for something they arent in control of in point of time.
Thats the way how I think about it, let me know your thoughts as im curious how you guys look at this.

Oh also maybe an email with hey your suspended because of this and this or just a message stating your suspended through email would be nice, instead of only through mail, I mean we are also able to send a mail when you won something, why not with this?

Certainly true, but I got an counter argument for that. I am a game collector and so do I have alot of games that are removed aswell, SG does NOT synchronize that, so they still visible and sometimes I just accidently enter those without remembering I already won that game ad those times it juust so happened I won those games.

Again, I have a solution: Check for ownership before entering.

This. Some giveaway creator (including me) will check winners for unactivated wins before sending keys - I don't blacklist for most rules infractions, but I know of many who do. It's likely they noticed the unactivated win and blacklisted you for that reason, not because you did not respond in time.

How will you do that then? do to that persons profile and search for every game he won, or is there somewhere you can see that? I dont remember seeing that on here.

For that there is sgtools.info if you want to manually check.
Easier one is with ESGST, it just uses sgtools and marks whether winner has non-activated/multiple wins or not.

Yeah I use esgst and I like that I have the option to have their name appear red if they broke any of the rules. Makes it much easier to sort through the lot. Plus there's always the option of doing multiple people at a time without hassle

You can use SGTools to check for non activations, e.g. for me: http://www.sgtools.info/nonactivated/Oppenh4imer (it will take some time)

The giveaway creator likely checked if you broke rules before sending your gift and requested a new winner because of broken rules. And anybody can see that any user is banned, it says so right on their profile page.

change the rule to something like 30 days

You mean if you don't get caught quick enough then you get to break rules without having justice? That would be a terrible rule xD

no Im not meaning that, I mean it more like its all great they implement a rule like this but why implement it if you arent gonna chack it in that time anyway, then its there for no reason.
I think they should make an automatic system which can do so automatically or if that isnt possible then dont do 5 days, as yuou can see now clearly that it isnt happening within that time.

But honestly if you really feel like having to blacklist me for a post like this then I dont even want to enter your giveaways, then my entry isnt even worth it, so think what you want about it, but thats just me, im just trying to fix a clearly broken system here.
And I admit, its not good I didnt activate those keys, but im after all still a human and humans make mistakes sometimes.

A follow up question. How "did break the rules" but "not intended to" do so? You won a giveaway, did not activate it and marked it received. As I assume you clicked "received" intentional and not by mistake, it would be great if you could elaborate on your point of view.

I've actually had this happen. The winner (now perm-suspended on SG) activated it on an alt account (not suspended but should be). Now I've gotten into the habit of checking activations of winners and BL users who created a Steam account and join SG on the same day. U7 is full of 'em. 😒

So if my winner has some unactivated win I should ask for reroll and report him? Will the reroll get approved if the user was already "punished" for it before?
I don't have any experience with this and I am curious about the best approach. :)

A reroll request for not activated/multiple wins will always be approved if:

  1. the user hasn't served suspension yet, for at least one of their infractions; OR
  2. the most recent infraction is under 1 month old, regardless if they had served suspension or not.

Then, they'll be suspended if needed.
I also check for possible regifts, there's quite a lot of them that seem to go unpunished for long times, often letting users win giveaway above their legit level (on top of receiving wins they shouldn't be eligible for due to point 2 above, which sadly few check).

Guideline has been significantly updated recently.
If you do not read it, we recommend that you read it again.

Due to penalty, you will not be able to receive for one week.
Within a week, the winner has to redeem and the winner's rights are considered lost.(probably)

If the user receiving the penalty is the winner, the provider can Re-roll a new winner.
If not redeemed within a week, you will apply for reroll support.

If the game expires after redemption, report it to support.
You will probably need to submit a steam history.
In the case of an accident, you will need it to guarantee innocence.

if..
Not an accident?
Did you redeem the key for your own convenience?
Did you send the key to others without redemption?

That is no good.

Having to rely on an external tool/script is a reasonably big problem with that :\ While it's less than a dozen of clicks to install whatevermonkey + the script, that is quite a jump to someone who never really meddled with tools and scripts. It was for me too, at the beginning.

But each day you learn something new! Also PC-master race should mean something more than ability to instal steam xD
Other thing is you don't have to use scripts - you can check your winner with sg tools. Or manually like I did in past. With people who won more than handful of games that could take hours - but hey - it's doable xD

It would also reduce the work load for the staff members.
Plenty of times my reroll request get denied due to already served suspensions, but cause I see the still not activated games I opened those tickets. That's time and effort of a support member wasted which could have been used for other tickekts.

I agree since having all your wins activated on your account is a rule it makes no sense for someone who have non activated wins not to have to activate them if they want to use the site. At the very least they should be a way to verify if a suspension has already been serve cause I agree it makes a lot of extra tickets that could be avoided.

More severe punishment I guess so, but an instant permanent ban seems a little excessive. I know people like one of them good old hanging parties, but it's still just a game license after all...

And it's just a ban, not end of the world. Go and get a game from resellers and continue using the site, problem solved.
It can't be excessive, because we don't request from user something more than he has got from giveaway. We don't even request from winner to give something back, just to have on their account. It's barely a punishment at all, really. If someone believes that activating a license he was given is too big price for continuing to use site - well, it's up to them.

There was one time I didn't receive the game I won, so I marked it as not received and couldn't even activate what I got. Basically, I won Trine 2 Collector's Edition and he was to trade the inventory item for it to me on Steam (with the intention being I get it and then use the inventory item). What he traded me was the inventory item for an upgrade for Trine 2 base game to the collector's edition. He wouldn't take it back or reroll, and kept badgering me repeatedly to mark as received (the inventory item said "Trine 2" and "Collector's Edition" on it so MuSt MeAn I gOt WhAt I wOn!!!!!!1!!1!). But since I won it, I can't give it to anyone else...though he did say something to the effect of "hey since you can't use it give it to someone else", as if he didn't know that was against the rules of Steamgifts. So I just have to let it collect dust until I somehow get the base game.

What I'm getting at is that you can't activate every game even if you win.

...still waiting for that base game 5 years later so I can activate my win. Even though that guy blacklisted me.

Because I received a game, technically. I just couldn't activate it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But you didn't mark it received, so it's not your problem. If you did, that's where the issue would come. If someone won 10 giveaways, never got any of the games but also marked them all not received and the creators didn't try to get you another copy, then it's not that winner's fault. If they activated it, and didn't mark received, then they should. But if they didn't activate it and still marked it received (which is what happened here), then that's the real issue.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, I see now, answered before you edited the post. It's a fault of giveaway creator, your only mistake was to accept this item, you should have asked to send it as a gift instead (and of course it would not be possible, but it's not your trouble). You did right that you marked it as not received, because you didn't get the game that was promised in giveaway. By the rules you should return wrong gift to giveaway creator, but again - it's not your fault if he didn't accepted it back.

Really? I feel like you still don't care about the rule. Instead of realizing the mistake, I feel you are angry over getting caught so late.

But on the day I got banned I also won an giveaway, which I was not able to claim due to my suspension and because it most likely took to long for the giveaway creator for me to respond I got blacklisted.

It probably wasn't because of response, it might be because of the Fresh "Suspension" tag on your profile. During the suspension period GA creator has the option for requesting new winner.

but maybe let a giveaway creator know when a winner has been suspended for whatever reason so the one being suspended has not to be blacklisted for something they aren't in control of in point of time.

It's their choice. Don't ask them what to do with their options when you are clearly in the wrong.

BTW can you share the number of blacklist you had before creating this thread, and how many you got after. You ranted about a blacklist, I'm sure you got much more after you posted this.

The "same day win" is likely the giveaway thatgot him caught, as the giver did a check...

Is that true. I didn't know that. I assumed that RNG picks one from the pool normally, and it didn't consider extra variable such as recently suspended users.

Anyways what I wanted to say was, if by anyways the suspended user gets picked, the winner still could send the key knowingly or unknowingly. I always happen to check user for both non-activated and multiple rule(some exceptions on date), so I would just ask for re-roll. But other users could send key without even looking at the profile or violations of said user.

Yes, suspended users can't win games.

That's why we can have giveaway for say 15k copies, 15.5k entrants and only 14.9k winners. It means that 600 users who entered giveaway were suspended when it ended.

You know, if you didn't activate wins in the past, and they are on your permanent record and you are worried about people blacklisting you for them, there is a solution. Go find the same games cheap, buy them and activate them, that will stop SGtools from flagging you since you will own them on Steam. Then... activate all of your future wins. :P

That's the only solution there is. There's no way that it should be marked off anyone's record. They do have the option to fix it themselves, if they intentionally or unintentionally gave away or sold their wins.

Mods rely on us to use SGtools on our winners and report users who are breaking the rules, so the punishment may be delayed. You don't have a right to complain about that. If more people actually checked their winners, you'd have been caught sooner. When you break the rules and get suspended, you don't really deserve any special treatment for current wins. Just accept your suspension and subsequent fallout as being your own fault and move on.

I'm not going to bother to blacklist you, but there are many people who probably will blacklist you for making this topic because you're kinda blaming the site for your own mistakes.

EDIT: Changed my mind about the blacklist after reading the OP's hilarious responses to people in this thread. Clearly no remorse and still thinks the system is broken. LOL!

If your ratio wasn't a giveaway this topic is definitely a good reason to blacklist.

"Why can't I just not activate my games?"

Anyway, I always check my wins (been a while since giving away though, just hoarding for now) and with a suspension they will also re-roll. I generally also blacklist to prevent having to do that again.
