For gaming, it's gotta be Windows 7, Windows 8 still has some issues with certain programs in the past.
For programming, Windows 7 and/or Linux for most save iOS app dev, that goes to Mac.
For other stuff like stability and security, that goes to Linux. Both Windows and Mac have their fair decent amount of viruses and such. I haven't heard of any major security flaw in Linux before.
EDIT: iOS is oversimplified for handphones and too inflexible. Android is more flexible.
Second EDIT: iOS is not a actual Mac OS, the name of the OS that Mac uses is generally called Mac OS surprisingly. iOS is the mobile phone OS.

Both of my Windows 8 PCs were running Windows 7 drivers from the beginning to recently (where I formatted and did a proper update). These PCs are 4 and 3 years old respectively, and both were midrange buys.
Nonetheless, you can't expect outdated drivers to work on new software. Blame the makers first, then Microsoft.

Yeah, me too. The problem is people use pirated and beta versions of these OS's, blame them, and never move on from the hate - and then others join in on the bandwagon hate to be cool, and feel a sense of community on the internet.
A lot of the criticism that Windows 8 received, well, if you BOUGHT Windows 8 when it came out, you would not experience it - I know I sure didn't, on either of my PCs, but using the 90 day enterprise version? I saw a few things that weren't apparent in the retail.

That's the problem - Windows can do anything, why bother having 2 OS if second is going to have some niche use? Non-Windows OS is only worth it, IMHO, if you REALLY need to work in that niche field, and even then only as secondary.
Saying Linux has no flaws is like saying you can't steal a car without wheels - sure, but you can forget about most car uses, too.

The only kind of flaw Linux could really have in major is the difficulty to use it. But that's mostly dealt with in the new versions. And Linux does have better security than both Windows and Mac OS each. As for "niche field", about every of your servers run a variant of Linux. And Ubuntu is now getting Steam's sttention also. The final thing is it can serve as a backup OS should Windows fail while the Hard disk remains intact.
