Add the user on Steam. Find out if they received your email. Some users still have the wrong email address entered on this site.
In future, first send an email asking them to confirm the address is in use. If you don't get a response, you don't lose the key.

Thankfully, I haven't run into this issue yet even with sending all gifts through e-mail.
There have been a few that I've had to add on steam to make sure they received the gift. I think I might start sending these test e-mails as you suggest.

It's been almost a week since the giveaway ended and I sent the winner a steam code by mail, followed by another email asking for confirmation, but I've had no response whatsoever and the gift status is still "Awaiting reply". What should I do in this case?
