Hi!

I'm gonna start reading some Edgar Allan Poe stories. I've read a few of them years ago but I barely remember them. So, which are the best? Can you help me to create a reading list?

Thanks!

The Tell-Tale Heart is probably my favourite, though you've probably already read it, since it's quite popular ;_;

I think I've read ir already. In spain is known as "El corazón delator". However, I'll read it again for sure, it's amazing. Thanks!

I like the pit and the pendulum a lot, a short horror story. :3

I already know this story, but I'll read it again because it's cool. There is a game adaptation in steam but it looks… poor.

I really like this story and it was also one of three books I had to read for my last year in school the other two being Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson and Maigret chez les Flamands by Georges Simenon.

Concerning the game, the reviews are bad but I can't say anything about this game myself because I haven't played it. ^^

I'm particulary fond of "Morella", find it quite disturbing. And I also like the ones that are more detective-like as "The Murders in the Rue Morgue". My favorite, now that I'm starting to recall, might be "The Masque of the Red Death".

I've heard about both but I've never read any of them. I'll add them to my reading list, thanks!

I remember reading a few short tales a loooong time ago. The Pit and the Pendulum, Murders in the Rue Morgue are some I can recall. Never got that much into Poe because shortly after that I discovered the work of H.P Lovecraft. You probably have read some of his stuff, but in case you haven't, add it to your whishlist. It's amazing.

I've read some Lovecrafts stories, but I would read more of them. Thanks! Do you know any other similar writer?

for more recent writers, I would recommend Clive Barker. He's insane. But I know it's not the same. I'll try to remeber some more. I'm more a sci-fi guy than fantasy/horror.

I love sci-fi, so it's fine for me. I'll investigate about him. Thanks!

ah, you got me wrong. clive barker is a horror/terror writer at its best. he wrote hellbound heart, later filmed as Hellraiser (the first one). But the book I'd recomend to you is The Damnation Game. Man, that's creepy.

that's how I learned english. also, I don't trust translators, the content/context always get lost in most cases.

I like Stephen Kind much, since I was a kid. But that's definitely a different kind of horror/fantasy writting. That said, everyone should read The Stand. His best work ever, IMHO.

just remembered, yesterday I bought a complete collection of Lovecraft's stuff. Very complete, including links to audiobooks. If you have no problems with digital books, it's with a really great price on Google Play.

Looks like there's another version of his collected works, but it very poorly edited. I recommend the one above.

Thanks! It's a great price, no doubt about it. I think I bought a similar selection for my kindle in an Amazon offer long time ago. I should check that. Thanks!

I read all of them. You should too. there are plenty of hidden gems that you'd otherwise miss.
It's ok to skip the narrative of Gordon Pym, though.

edit: can't believe no one's mentioned the fall of the house of usher

Thanks! I'll try to read all of them. However, I think it's a good idea to have a start point with a few good ones. I'll add to the whislist The Fall of the House of Usher. :D

Oh that's right, forgot about Cask of Amontillado. That one is very good as well (but then again, I liked all Poe's stories and most of his poems) :)

Maybe this is excluded because it is a poem (albeit a narrative one), but I really do like The Raven.
