Copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta since I'm just that lazy :D.

Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: Mafia: Definitive Edition

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for nearly five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on November 6th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to wait in line overnight to get it first

List of eligible games: https://barter.vg/bundles/3/3/
https://barter.vg/bundles/3/161/
Credit goes to PapaSmok

.In case you are wondering, I'll make the gib later in the week when I can set the end date to the 7th.
I totally did not forget to make the giveaway. I definitely planned on making the giveaway in the middle of the night a week after I said I would.
Also, I'm totally not annoyed for missing the PS5 preorders. Not at all.

Alright, I'm back after a month off. Have one or two on my PoP list I can start with, and have a few others lined up:

Game Progress Status & Playtime
The Suicide of Rachel Foster 11/11 Completed in 5hrs
Yuppie Psycho 35/37 Beaten in 15hrs
Whispers of a Machine 25/25 Completed in 8hrs
Layers of Fear (Masterpiece Edition) 20/27 Beaten in 10hrs
The Sexy Brutale 18/18 Completed in 12hrs
Lightmatter 23/23 Completed in 6hrs
Bonus The Turing Test 12/15 5hrs so far
TOTAL 144/156 6/7 Beaten - 61hrs so far

The Suicide of Rachel Foster - worth playing if you liked Gone Home I guess. This had some pretty good voice acting, and some good parts to the game, but I'd not recommend it too highly due to my biased dislike for Gone Home (maybe that's unfair, but both come across in places as rather preachy with an ulterior subplot simmering beneath the main plot.
EDIT: Just had to go back and get the achievement I missed. Added a tid-bit to the relationship-side of things between the two characters.

Yuppie Psycho - not finished at this stage, but really loving this game. It starts off painfully slow and obtuse, but the more I played the more i wanted to keep playing. I'm up near the end of the game I think, interested to see how it pans out :)
EDIT: Enjoyed the ending(s), and just found out they're adding more to the game! Sweet.

Whispers of a Machine - just really started playing it, my impressions so far is that it's a pretty decent p&c. If you've played old Lucasarts games, or the retro WadjetEye stuff, you'll be at home with this artstyle. Has some neat detective tools, and a reasonable story so far (transhumanism). Enjoying :)
EDIT: Didn't feel like the tools/augments were utilised enough, though the game itself is short anyway. Story was a bit out there, and game felt like it was missing a soul, even with the dialog options; maybe it was done on purpose. Needs multiple playthroughs to get all achievements. Still worth checking out if you want a relatively short p&c. It was fully voiced, which was nice, and most interactions weren't too obtuse.

Layers of Fear (Masterpiece Edition) - Others have commented and said it already - Layers of Fear is a solid horror game. There's no big punishment for "dying", and that allows you to look around and search every nook and cranny of the game. The DLC for LOF is definitely worth playing. A few jump scares and a feeling of dread, but if you thought that was tame, I felt Observer (by the same devs) was a bit more intense. While Layers of Fear is traditional horror, Observer has a more sci-fi/psy-fi feel. You may also want to check out Lust for Darkness, which has, as the name suggests, some sexual horror. (I always feel horror hits those basic, raw emotions that convey more of our inexplicable fears, fantasies and frustrations in a creative way, and these three kinda hit their niche demographics well, while being quite similar in scope and style.) I still want to get the other endings (I managed to get the same ending twice (though not quite the same playthrough which was nice), so I'm hoping to try again for that sometime soon.

The Sexy Brutale - A very cool idea, with funky music, stylish setting, and trendy characters. The main puzzle aspect was, unfortunately, a little convoluted - going beyond just trial and error, I had to use a guide a few times - and this makes it disappointing. If you don't mind referring to a guide, or if you're extremely broad-minded, you might be able to beat this by yourself. HOWEVER, even with that hitch, I still managed to enjoy my time, and would still probably recommend it for the experience.

Lightmatter - slight change of game plans, as i won this from another giveaway site, and ended up playing it all today. Great Portal/Q.U.B.E -like game with the same sort of voiceover and puzzle gameplay you've come to expect. It's a pretty decent game, and worth playing if you like these sorta games :)

And, yes, I still plan to play The Turing Test, even though I have satisfied the MIAM requirements, because, why not?

Is PoP a group? What does it stand for?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes its a group. Play or pay. Each 3 months 7 games are picked for you to play, you get assigned points depending on how many you do and the length of them. If you fail the reach the minimum point target you have to do a ga for the group. If you get lucky you could easily complete 2 short games and be done, thats between 2 - 8 hours. Or you might need to play more

Aaaargh! So close to 100%ing! I even restarted the game to get the last achievement I had missed. Got there. Damn cheevo won't trigger. Ugh.
Great game though. Spent way too much time exploring and falling down platforms 10/10 Would def. recommend!

I wonder what's the reason behind the October surge on SG... can't be Valentines Day sooooo...?

Anyway don't worry too much about it, maybe you're just a winter kid. In Canada a lot of kids are born in September/October because winter is long and boring and there's so much fun to be had under blankets when you're in love :P

My Time At Portia Completed - 181hs - 65/91 Liked it
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Completed - 55hs - 54/99 Liked it
Battle Chasers: Nightwar Completed -111hs - 47/48 Okay till it wasn't
The Messenger Completed - 42hs - 41/48 Love it
Evoland Legendary Edition Completed - 7hs - 18/29 Love it
Sunless Sea dropped it - 9hs - 7/54 Good at first then got bored

Ok, humor me with the 8th instead of six, as from your barter lists these are the ones I own without being a HB subscriber, never was, probably never will now that my county (and humble's) are taking a turn for the worse :P
You can find most if not all game reviews I've played, but I'll add -shortly- thoughts here too, for the lazy minded eh

  1. bit rough around the edges at first but the devs at Pathea's kept fixing and adding content. Might jump in anytime soon as it's still installed.
  2. Nice refresh, love the puzzles and stealth. Still need to go get missing achievements. Wish there were MORE tombs tho
  3. Preordered, right b4 we had our own currency store. Was enjoying it till a RNG bugged achievement prevented me from platinum. Devs ignored my report
  4. Oh man this is awesome! seriously, it's a beautiful call back for those old of us lucky enough to know what I'm talking about. Love the creativity and heart it has!
  5. zelda-like, some rpg and cool graphics engine upgrading mechanics, a creative way to present a story, and more. It was actually the regular version not legendary, back in 2015. Think I imported my old save so it explains few played hours
  6. I was psyched when I started playing it, way before there was a 2nd game (which I dont own) and along the way of navigating in the dark and being stranded, I guess I got bored, slipped though the cracks..kinda
    ..
  7. Aegis Defenders haven't played this one. It's still on my to-do list but keep postponing it.
  8. Middle-earth™: Shadow of War bought it recently, haven't installed yet. Read mixed results; improves on the ME.SoM which I quite enjoyed, and it's supposed to be better now than when released, both performance and lootbox & cashgrab stuff. I will still play it eventually, but I'm currently playing my backlog and Nier Automata, 5 years old heh, plus in a month or so, it's Cyberpunk 2077, hopefully!

Alright, I tend to sidetrack a lot, it's just me..sometimes

So, a question about endless games - do they count in any way towards the event? I'm asking basically because I've started playing Unrailed! last week (it's from Humble Choice #2), and looking through previous events didn't provide me with answers.
Is it a definite no, yes with at least 1 achievment, yes with some measure of success (some in-game milestone), yes but 100% required, yes where we decide how much is enough by ourselves, or something else entirely?

Definite no because of all this. I don't want to waste time making judgement calls and I want to keep things as simple as possible. Same thing as MP-only games.
