Copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta of a copy pasta since I'm just that lazy :D.

Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: Mafia: Definitive Edition

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for nearly five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on November 6th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to wait in line overnight to get it first

List of eligible games: https://barter.vg/bundles/3/3/
https://barter.vg/bundles/3/161/
Credit goes to PapaSmok

.In case you are wondering, I'll make the gib later in the week when I can set the end date to the 7th.
I totally did not forget to make the giveaway. I definitely planned on making the giveaway in the middle of the night a week after I said I would.
Also, I'm totally not annoyed for missing the PS5 preorders. Not at all.

TL;DR:Too late no need to read further.
Thanks for the chance and motive (not that I didn't have one, but the extra), but this time I couldn't finish.. That dam Remnants of Naezith is one rage-quit game. I'll finish it for the F of it but I shouldn't have spend that much time on it and shouldn've tried something else. Anyhow, this is just for my story-memories, didn't want to distract you hence the TL;DR.
Cheers

Alright, I'm back after a month off. Have one or two on my PoP list I can start with, and have a few others lined up:

Game Progress Status & Playtime
The Suicide of Rachel Foster 11/11 Completed in 5hrs
Yuppie Psycho 35/37 Beaten in 15hrs
Whispers of a Machine 25/25 Completed in 8hrs
Layers of Fear (Masterpiece Edition) 20/27 Beaten in 10hrs
The Sexy Brutale 18/18 Completed in 12hrs
Lightmatter 23/23 Completed in 6hrs
Bonus The Turing Test 15/15 Completed in 7hrs
TOTAL 147/156 7/7 Beaten - 64hrs Total

The Suicide of Rachel Foster - worth playing if you liked Gone Home I guess. This had some pretty good voice acting, and some good parts to the game, but I'd not recommend it too highly due to my biased dislike for Gone Home (maybe that's unfair, but both come across in places as rather preachy with an ulterior subplot simmering beneath the main plot.
EDIT: Just had to go back and get the achievement I missed. Added a tid-bit to the relationship-side of things between the two characters.

Yuppie Psycho - not finished at this stage, but really loving this game. It starts off painfully slow and obtuse, but the more I played the more i wanted to keep playing. I'm up near the end of the game I think, interested to see how it pans out :)
EDIT: Enjoyed the ending(s), and just found out they're adding more to the game! Sweet.

Whispers of a Machine - just really started playing it, my impressions so far is that it's a pretty decent p&c. If you've played old Lucasarts games, or the retro WadjetEye stuff, you'll be at home with this artstyle. Has some neat detective tools, and a reasonable story so far (transhumanism). Enjoying :)
EDIT: Didn't feel like the tools/augments were utilised enough, though the game itself is short anyway. Story was a bit out there, and game felt like it was missing a soul, even with the dialog options; maybe it was done on purpose. Needs multiple playthroughs to get all achievements. Still worth checking out if you want a relatively short p&c. It was fully voiced, which was nice, and most interactions weren't too obtuse.

Layers of Fear (Masterpiece Edition) - Others have commented and said it already - Layers of Fear is a solid horror game. There's no big punishment for "dying", and that allows you to look around and search every nook and cranny of the game. The DLC for LOF is definitely worth playing. A few jump scares and a feeling of dread, but if you thought that was tame, I felt Observer (by the same devs) was a bit more intense. While Layers of Fear is traditional horror, Observer has a more sci-fi/psy-fi feel. You may also want to check out Lust for Darkness, which has, as the name suggests, some sexual horror. (I always feel horror hits those basic, raw emotions that convey more of our inexplicable fears, fantasies and frustrations in a creative way, and these three kinda hit their niche demographics well, while being quite similar in scope and style.) I still want to get the other endings (I managed to get the same ending twice (though not quite the same playthrough which was nice), so I'm hoping to try again for that sometime soon.

The Sexy Brutale - A very cool idea, with funky music, stylish setting, and trendy characters. The main puzzle aspect was, unfortunately, a little convoluted - going beyond just trial and error, I had to use a guide a few times - and this makes it disappointing. If you don't mind referring to a guide, or if you're extremely broad-minded, you might be able to beat this by yourself. HOWEVER, even with that hitch, I still managed to enjoy my time, and would still probably recommend it for the experience.

Lightmatter - slight change of game plans, as i won this from another giveaway site, and ended up playing it all today. Great Portal/Q.U.B.E -like game with the same sort of voiceover and puzzle gameplay you've come to expect. It's a pretty decent game, and worth playing if you like these sorta games :)

And, yes, I still plan to play The Turing Test, even though I have satisfied the MIAM requirements, because, why not?

Is PoP a group? What does it stand for?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes its a group. Play or pay. Each 3 months 7 games are picked for you to play, you get assigned points depending on how many you do and the length of them. If you fail the reach the minimum point target you have to do a ga for the group. If you get lucky you could easily complete 2 short games and be done, thats between 2 - 8 hours. Or you might need to play more

Great game though. Spent way too much time exploring and falling down platforms 10/10 Would def. recommend!

Hi metaleroed... I don't think you understand how this whole thing works?
Quoting from the main post:

The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

Given how many hours you have there, you clearly didn't play these games, from scratch, this month.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed I did not understood it all. Now, what's that part about "in one month"?
We could/should/ought to play SIX games that we haven't played before, to completion, that could come from ANY HB to the date, AND do all 6 in a month? less, actually, since limit is 6th november.

I don't know if I have 6 remaining games that I haven't played and that I could be invested enough to finish, all that before 6/11, meaning 10 days from now.

Oh well.. Guess I'll show myself out. Thanks Mayanaise I still use katchap sometimes but you're my favourite :P

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, it's any 6 monthly/choice games you haven't played before the event started, but the games don't have to be from the same bundle obviously :) Anyway, maybe we'll see you next month then, all going well.

Alright, thank you. I know you're not OP but still took interest and replied :)
Just one more thing, what keeps me -or anyone really- to just fire up any of the listed (99% completed games) so it updates played date and maybe even a missing achievement, then call it like we just beat it, thus complying with the rules?
I mean, isn't that an exploit, a bug in the matrix? :P
I may overthinking it, as I usually do.
I may participate next month, but it wont be Mafia remake and likely will have the same problem; not enough HB games to beat.

So, a question about endless games - do they count in any way towards the event? I'm asking basically because I've started playing Unrailed! last week (it's from Humble Choice #2), and looking through previous events didn't provide me with answers.
Is it a definite no, yes with at least 1 achievment, yes with some measure of success (some in-game milestone), yes but 100% required, yes where we decide how much is enough by ourselves, or something else entirely?

Definite no because of all this. I don't want to waste time making judgement calls and I want to keep things as simple as possible. Same thing as MP-only games.
