Hey, guys today i got my first scam on Steam, the dude was giving me $15US for my Payday and DeadSpace 2, so we make the deal that I will trade 1 game first and then the other one after the paypal transaction, as soon I trade my Dead Space to him, he block me, :( . Why people do this? I mean steam games are really cheap, you can easily buy them, and this guy has like 230 games on his account, why are you going to ruin your reputation for a game.

I just reported him to steam rep. Hopefully he cannot scam anymore. What you guys think?

EDIT: Thanks for your comments guys, I feel better now most of you guys are right :)
And the main reason of doing this was that i want to buy a new Iphone Headphones cause I lost the original ones like 2 days ago, and I find a cheaper ones on ebay, I was lack of money, cause use all my money in some medicines, and I dont get payed till 15 may :(. I know, it was against the ToE's and I learn my lesson now. Payments are first! LOL!! Nah JK.

Thanks a lot guys.

Giving him 1 game before the transaction was stupid...
If YOU scam him he can report the thing & He'll probz get his money back, But if HE scams YOU... What can you do? Get his account banned?
In the end, You probz wont get your shit back so youre still losing.

Either use a middle man or make HIM pay beforehand.

Hope they ban the guy and you get justice, but don't forget that Steam forbids trades that involve irl money. Trading with Paypal transactions is like null-sec areas in EVE online.

Also: if you were gonna make it a split transfer (1 game, 15 bucks, other game), you should have split the money too. Ideally, this way: 7.5 dollars, 1 game, 7.5 dollars, other game.

WUT? Why would you want to split the money like that? Can't think of any reason OP should want to do that.

If he was doing that anyway, he should have asked for half the money beforehand. Easier than just giving him a whole game without any proof of ever getting paid.

ouch, I thought it was game-$$-game-$$.

Sure, but they will still reply that they don't want to get scammed and that you should go first with at least one game...

Sorry, but, it's not really the null sec areas of EVE. Trading games acquired through Steam for money is against the EULA and I'm pretty sure Valve will ban offenders right away (we could imagine most clauses in the ToS are just gonna get you a warning). There's still some rules in null sec.

Anyway, really sorry for Gatumadre. It's guys like this scammer that make me keep my valuables in my inventory. But honestly Valve should improve the trading system. This is just my opinion, mind you, but I think they allow some types of scams because it makes people buy more games. Right now what we'd need most I think is a way to trade keys through the trading window.

That's a good idea. Plus, when using paypal, if you try to scam the other person, they can just file a depute and get their money back. Its a Win Win Situation as long as they don't file the depute after the fact.

Worst thing about this - when you got scammed while trading a game for Paypal $$$, you probably can't even report that scammer. Steam might ban you along with him as you both violated the rules.

Lesson to take - trade only tradeable items, or make him go first, or don't trade with him at all.

Bottom like: you got scammed - your fault. I'm sorry.

EDIT: making him go first is probably also unsafe. I don't use PayPal, but there exist something like canceling your recent payments right? That sh*t makes PayPal dangerous to use even for buying games on Steam at all. People get in trouble because of this.

Even if they only ban the guy, OP is still losing.
Its kinda like a single player game, Maybe you killed 100 guys & Died, Sure youre awesome coz you killed 100 guys but you died too so fuck it, Doenst count, Youre dead.

The scammer can get banned & Lost his 230 games, But shit... OP lost his games too.

What.

Man, this is MMO. It gets singleplayer only after you get Steam-banned.

And because OP is not selfish (unlike others ...), by making him get banned OP ensures that the scammer will not harm anyone else.

Thats terrible,I hope Steam deals some damage to him, be more careful in the future though, I traded stuff before but I would never take paypal money unless they gave it first, I usually would just be like "Buy this game for so and so dollars and then lets trade), works alright that way.

I only traded a couple times ever though...sorry to hear you got scammed :-(.

Report this to steam and dont mention money. Make up a story about key trade etc. Steam may revoke his copy that way.

Not that you were to know beforehand but the scammer's personalised steam URL ends with fuckuretard ... that to me would have been enough of a hint to make me say screw the trade and back out.

This place is (mostly) about Pay it forward...do something nice for someone just because you can. Not for profit, just helping someone when they need it. So sorry for the scam you've experienced. Best wishes for good luck in your life.

You should never trade money with someone with no reputation, especially on PayPal.
He can open a dispute and since it is digital goods and not a physical item that was shipped, you will automatically lose the dispute.
