Today is my cakeday! I haven't been overly active over the past year, I even missed doing something for my last cakeday. Today that changes. Today I create a thread. A thread of reminiscing and one question. I think we'll have fun.

This cakeday marks six years for me. Six years is a long time to be active on a forum. I registered back in 2013. My gods I was just a baby back then. 6 years! This got me to thinking of the time I've spent on here and the people I've got to meet. The things we've done together. It's more than being just about giveaways, it's about cherishing the time we spend together and fostering these relationships that will last an unspecified amount of time. I'm sure there are many of you that have met people and become friends with them over this website. That in and of itself is pretty amazing. Meeting people online and caring about them, crazy.

This also got me to thinking of all the awesome events and threads that have been created. So many unique ideas that have come about.

The ones that come to the top of my mind include:

These are just few of the many many moments/events/experiences you've come to appreciate on this beloved site of ours.

On to the question now! :D

What's been you're favorite event, moment or experience here so far? Does one come to the top of you mind or has this all been a massive waste of time? Or perhaps you have registered here many moons ago, only to stay in the shadows as a lurker. Never contributing, only leeching. Less than ten comments altogether. To you I say now is the best time to jump in! The water is just right!

Obligitory cakeday giveaway
Bad Rats VR courtisy of the great Fiftykyu

Solution: Each number/letter of the giveaway code was italicized above, and they were the only things that was italicized. Put together you had the code "aM63O" leading you to my train here: https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/aM63O/60-parsecs :)

If you had difficulty with this, you should check out Zelghadis' Puzzle Guide.

Happy Cakeday.

My first major event was last year's Touhou Spring Code event, which was fun, hard, and generally a good time. Then there was a 1200(?) car train (alphabetically arranged) by one user.
Then The Community Train #3 which was kickstarted by Fiddlerontheweb (as well as a number of prior hilarious threads by him). The train generated such a sense of community and togetherness. We united around a common goal and blew by it in grand style.

Even if I am not as active in the forums as I perhaps ought to be, I love it here and so dearly wish that I had known about steamgifts long before I did.

Touhou Spring Code

I went back and looked at this and my goodness did they put some time into making it. I've never had much patience myself for long puzzles, but I've admired those who are able to put them together coherently. Basic hidden giveaways are about all I can manage lol

Yes.
I was so glad they allowed people to group together to beat it. I made some good friends in the process, and generally had a great time. My ability to hide giveaways is pretty nil. :D

Happy cake day!

I was an occasional lurker for years, but finally became active a couple years ago, and discovered that you really get out of this site what you put into it. My favorite part is the people here - I've had the pleasure to talk to some really nice people, and if they weren't scattered all over the world I'd be happy to buy them a pint and hang out.

This happened a while back, a few users had a meet up. I can't remember who or when, but I remember it happened. There were even two users that met up and eventually married too. I've tried meeting up with Jatan a couple times, but we could never get the timing right on it.

I'm sad cause most of the cool people are in Europe or parts of the USA I'm like no where near lol

Oh, wow, that's really cool.

I did a similar thing for my WoW guild back when I still played WoW. We invited everyone up to Boston for a weekend, and had a surprisingly high turnout. People drove in from nearby, but also flew in from all over the East Coast, and we clearly hadn't given any thought to where people would actually stay. There was someone sleeping under the kitchen table, another went to sleep in our bathtub. But everyone had a great time, and we had it again the following years - though those times our friends hosted it in their big house outside of Boston. And two of the people present at the get together also ended up getting married. :)

Wishing you a joyous and fun filled cake day Fyantastic!

I won't mention the events/threads previously mentioned above by the various people but some of my personal favourites included the Lyme disease one by Superfabs, both the Easter egg and Christmas events created by MachinesAreHuman which are just awesome, DrTenma's puzzle thread, and the amazing threads created by Sensualshakti for all the bundles and InquisitorAles's thread for the bundles are absolutely invaluable to me for keeping up to date of what bundles are available deserve a very special mention.

I just wished I found out about this site earlier than when I did but better late than never I suppose! Onwards and upwards :-)

I really like the christmas calender event :)
Gets you really in the mood for christmas :3

And I just started participating in the "play a game you won on sg" events a few months ago, but I really enjoy it :)

Also, not giveaway related, but I always come back to the "Guess a game Screenshot Boogaloo" and spend way to much time trying to figure out what game it is :3

My personal preference was probably the SG Hunger Games events. #TeamDownwardConcept
Also, you could add the SG Karaoke events to the list.

SG Karaoke events

Man, every time I see ceebers host this I always intend on contributing, but always forget. Also, there would be busted ear drums from my voice. Guaranteed. End up singing some hillbilly country rock that most of the world hates lol

Favoritue event? Gotta be Temple of Steamgifts by jatan, it was unbeliveably complex, well thought and organized, I was stunned and impressed by how much work he put into this, it was also the single group puzzle I put the most time ever into solving, organizing all people, we created a massive group spreadsheet, special steam groups and chats and dozens of people were working for entire month to solve it. Then there was also sequel :) I also created some pretty big group puzzle inspired by jatan, but it was nowhere as good as his ;)

Another one - I cannot find now, but Jexel, creator of ITH, also made a massive and complex group puzzle using ITH as a platform, but he was able to create much more than usual quizzes, there were some really clever puzzles and it's a real shame he never allowed other users to create such nont standard ITH pages.

Jatan did puzzles??

All he does now is post numbers :P

On a serious note, it must have really left an impression as your the puzzle king and to remember one that was created before my account was made speaks volumes.

When I joined jatan was the original puzzle master, actually a lot of his work inspired me into creating my own puzzles ;p Same as after my reign a lot of great puzzlers came to SG with their own ideas, so calling me a puzzle king now is a big stretch ;p There's whole generation of SG users who never even seen my puzzles, same as there's another generation who haven't seen jatan's :)
