While part of the world is making bad jokes and pranks, April 1st is for me the anniversary of a really, really horrible day, and the day my cat died, seven years ago. She was 7 days away from her 18th birthday. I still miss her. I also miss having a cat, but I can't now, so bad. I've linked several times the watercolour painting of her, so I'll spare you from it today.

I really don't have anything special to put here, but I'm already running a Calico giveaway:

I so get you. Lost my precious baby girl 2016 and I still miss her so much. Even tho I have two lovely boys now, but she was just perfect. I sometimes totally see her lying on her fav places and still dream of her, where she's just back as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

My condolences for your loss. I also lost my cat last year, so I can understand how you feel.

I was going to link it but it seems someone was faster.

Here you have the full pet portfolio of the artist. The first portrait of two dogs are the two little ladies of the friend who gifted me the watercolour:
https://mikaelasecada.wixsite.com/mikaelasecada/retratos-de-mascotas

He liked so much the watercolour of my cat that he wanted one of his ladies too. A few years later I also asked the artist for a watercolour of my girlfriend.

As I always mention, no picture can do justice to the watercolour. You've got to see it live to see that she's more alive in it than in any photo.

No problem, thanks for the story and the link. Every cat is special just like you say and that's a gorgeous painting to remember her.
Peace.

Losing a beloved pet is never easy. I still miss every single one that I've had to say farewell to.
But it's important to focus on the good memories when you can.

I hope that both you and I can one day bear to have a cat around again.
I already own the game, but nonetheless appreciate the giveaway. A generous and sweet way to honor your cat.

I am sorry for your loss. I know that a cat and a dog are irreplaceable, but keep in mind that there are low-maintenance pet alternatives.

cats are amazing. I've always wanted one/some but as soon as I had my own place, I developed an allergy to cats so that's ✨fun✨
regardless, losing pets is never easy, so I do feel your pain.

I think I understand what you're feeling. My kitty died 8 years ago, and I miss her so very much. She was 20,5; at least we can both say that our cats lived really long lives, and they were loved. Hopefully you'll be ready to adopt a new cat someday; I decided that I was ready 2 years ago, but loving my new kitty doesn't mean I've forgotten the old one. She comes to me in my dreams as often as my late human relatives do.

I feel you so much, next month will be mark 4 years without my love. He died way too young, barely 12 years old, after a long fight against renal failure discovered when already in a very advanced stage. I spent several thousand dollars to treat him, he fought bravely for over a year but at some point it was no longer the right thing to do. Giving up and allowing him to go is the most difficult thing I have ever done.

I still have his "sister", she is amazing, so full of love and tenderness. She is now 16 and in early stage of the same disease. I'm following her health closely and everything is stable and under control.

If you have a pet and can afford it, you should pay for regular check up and blood testing. It's not cheap but it's important as it may add a few years to their lives if you detect their health problems early. I wish I had done that.

So sorry to hear about this, but at the same time it's nice to see so many people offering support and sharing stories of their pets.

Yes, it happens whenever anyone mentions losing a pet, or an anniversary as with mine, which I've mentioned thrice already in SG, IIRC.

It tells something special and different about people who are or were pet owners, no matter if it was cat, dog, ferret, parrot, other birds, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, even fishes. It happens in SG and other forums, chats, communities. I remember once in an emulation forum someone was mourning the dead of his snake, and it was all the same.

The memories of you and your cat are, of course, eternal.

🤔There is always little we can do.
It may be a good thing to look at the newly born cats and watch over the next generation.

Maybe try to remember her in a positive light in another date instead of the day of death. I do that with my long lost cat. Ill be honest - I don't even remember how long ago she died - I don't believe you should concentrate on something like that. What I do remember is how I played with my cat and how I felt. Same with our family dogs. Over the years, some have gotten in accidents, some died of old age (one was freaking shot by some moronic neighbor) but only thing I remember are the times I have spent playing or walking them.

But no matter how long you were with an animal - it was still your family member. My GFs sister took on babysitting two kittens. They were babysitting with intention of simply giving them temporary home, but unfortunately both of them contracted a virus which kills newborn kittens, and they were too young to get them vaccinated. Both of them died within days and even as temporary owners they mourned the loss and still remember the week they had with them.

I will never understand people who can be cruel to animals. We actually found a lost cat in the staircase of our house. Brought her to a vet and he said that the cat is perfectly clean and was a house cat. She either got lost from neighboring houses or someone intentionally left her. And since no one has come forward for several weeks to claim her we are adopting her now, but if someone did indeed left her outside intentionally then they deserve to be punched in the face.

Btw here is the cat we adopting now. - https://ibb.co/dc8JwT8

Sorry for your loss. Our cat is 16 and we almost lost her at the end of 2022 to diabetes. She had a seizure due to a hypoglycemic episode and almost died in front of us. We rushed her to an emergency vet hospital and thankfully having almost lost her twice they managed to stabilize her after a 6 hour ordeal.
We've managed through pure perseverance and our cats unwillingness to give up to put her diabetes into remission, got her off the daily insulin injections and she's been solid since but we are well aware her clock is ticking down. My partner and I love her like a daughter and losing her would be absolutely devastating, the whole event was incredibly traumatic to the point where it actually affected my health so i can only imagine the pain you went through of actually losing your cat, especially after 18 years.
It's one of the tragedies of being human, knowing that one day everything we love will either be lost to us or we will be lost to those that love us. I wish you peace and even though i don't know you personally i can imagine your cat loved you a lot and you gave it a good life. That's all that matters. ☺
