Same author but a whole different conception. Imo SAO had better story and musics. In sao people died and they fought for survival in accel world ppl played games to be fast in real life and use it to their advantage (cheating in kendo matches, exams and stuff) if they lost all their points they lost their memory about playing the game and continued to live on so their wasn't any big consequences.

I really don't wish to go in debate...
Music is better...easy, check who composer is and saw all other titles where she worked on, that way you'll see titles with a story. SAO doesn't have story, it has world setting, but there is no story. An in all honesty both titles are made as power fantasy from author when he was 14.

We both have opinions. It's ok.
I wouldn't say there is no story. It had a begging, an ending and character development in between these parts. Plus same author means there are problems with both of the series. I didn't like the second part of the sao. Also i didn't like how accel world's story went onwards. They either showed us he's fight or he non-existent real life problems. Also hitting a wall with a technique for days that shouldn't be used at all because it has a negative effect on mental health but there are no actual consequences is a bit disappointing.

I'm not sure what are you looking for: game who's origins form an actual game, or anime with settings in side of game/VR?
For the ladder:
Accel World
Dragon Drive
Digimon
dot Hack series
Log Horizon
Summer Wars
SAO if you are compliantly honest is not good title at all, all other titles have done this much better.

What if the enjoyment is subjective and we can't scientifically establish if a show is good or bad?
Now, i was just looking for a comment like yours, every time there's a SAO post a shit-storm begins; well, this time not (till now), but i'm expecting it. SAO has really become overhated

I was really hoping to avoid this...
First learn to read... I never said is not enjoyable, I said its not that good, same view I have for "Independents Day", movie is bad but enjoyable as hell at least for me.
There is no scientific way, but there are pretty good guides, developed since ancient Greece, called critic of an artistic work.
I don't know what comment you were waiting for, I didn't bash your beloved fantasy, just gave view on it since episode 3. I was hoping that SAO will become dot Hack successor, but it didn't nor it will.

Yep, aesthetic criticism started in ancient greece, it was fully developed as a discipline by Baumgarten, continued then by Kant's critique of aesthetic judgment; the topic was really popular in the romantic period, Schelling has made of art the core of his philosophical system, also Hegel included art as a way to understand the absolute. It still continues today with the relational aesthetic and other movements ( and, unfortunately, i didn't need google for all this shit). But you know what? That's just a shit-load of bullshit. As you said, there's no scientific method for the judgment, only speculation to support our own subjective taste. But if you think your opinion is right if it follows these "pretty good guides", do as you please. Btw, have you at least studied them? Just wondering... if not, maybe if you study them, as i did, you'll realize that's all bullshit.
For me, enjoyable=good. A lot of people think it that way, others just don't, but there's no way to scientifically decide who's right.
You know why i'm saying this? Because SAO haters are usually hardcore/pseudo-intellectual weebs. Recently I read Thomsen's dark souls 2 review, well, that's the kind of people i'm referring to. If you're not included into that category, don't mind me.
Maybe i'm too harsh with you, but today i'm a little stressed and when someone mentions "the critic of artistic work" i just can't control myself.

So those given above are some good and here are some that I didn't see above.
Bokurano
C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control - not really in a game but something similar (a realm where they fight in tournaments and bet their money). It's pretty confusing at first but it's a good anime
Btooom! - Also not in a game but again something similar, some people trapped on an island and they have to kill each other to get out
Gantz - Old but still awesome and a word of warning: Gantz is not for the faint-hearted, but neither is it as simple as it looks. Gore, rape, and violence is rampant, as are portrayals of greed, violence, and all the ugliness that one sees in society today - copied from MAL just as a warning as it's pretty bloody and violent.
Edit: Also don't know if you know but next month the new season of Sword Art Online (Gun Gale Online) is coming out

.hack was the first stuck in a game anime. Log Horizon is great. It got cleared for a second season before the first even ended. Second season coming out this fall. It's not pure action and it focuses on how life would be in a video game. The story isn't about people getting trapped in it like SAO where they still have a body out of the video game. The video game literally becomes life.

Did you ... actually liked Sword Art Online ? I thought only girls and weird otaku's liked that anime.I couldn't finish it, after some time that anime went full-retard -_-
Anyway, Steins;Gate based on a visual novel.Best anime in the existance if you ask me, but I'm not sure if you'd accept it as based on a game.
And there is Pokemon The Origin, which I loved. You might like it if you played Pokemon games before.
