I know there are already threads talking about this, but I thought it would be better to make one with a title that mentions wishlist and sgtools to make it easier for people to find when searching.

Steam just added new privacy settings and by default has them set to not display your information to the public. This will cause you to not have a wishlist here and fail all sgtools checks because sgtools cannot see what games you own.

I'm not sure how this will affect the steamgifts site not being able to see what games you own when it syncs every day.

To fix this, you need to go here and set your "game details" to public. Then come back to SG and sync your account by clicking on your points on the top right and then clicking the sync button on your account page. If you are still failing sgtools giveaways, open a sgtools page, click the drop down arrow next to "home" on the top left and click synchronize.

its classic valve, really.. if somethings working perfectly gabe will not stand for it and immediately organizes a meeting on how best to screw things up for people. any rational company that cared, would have given people the option to enable privacy if they chose it but otherwise leave things defaulting to how theyve alwasy been... that way everything works as it always has, and if people want the new option they can choose to use it... but not valve, no sir, we're going to enforce it on everyone immediately without them even knowing!

I think sites should be set by default to have these settings set to private, but given that Steam already had the setting public for a long time, I agree that they should have set it to public by default and anyone that wanted to could change it.

It was mandatory to implement due to the new privacy regulations in the EU. But they could of course at least tell the users they changed a menu some people never even saw in their lives, and not just in a blog entry in a blog even less people know exists.

+1 to all. Valve always makes changes without a proper notification and without user's consent beforehand. At least they didn't remove a choice this time.

yes, I am NOT bitching about anything, but I ALWAYS find once a week that something new's been added without letting the users know anything.. as talgaby wrote, I'd never have checked Steam blog if it wasn't for this thread.. +1 to all for me too!!

Are you talking about who can view your profile? Steam added a new setting so that you can have a public profile while not allowing people to see what games you own. Or allow them to see the games, but not the amount of time you have played each game. They did not change the setting for who can view your entire profile.

I'm saying the new setting was set up to friends only as well, just like old setting for my profile.

Maybe it defaults to private if someone had public profile for some odd reason?

I thought you might have been talking about your entire profile and not the new setting, but the new setting may actually be set to friends only for everyone and not private. I don't remember what mine was set to.

Yes, Valve did set the default to friends only for everyone.
