A 12 year old boy recently killed himself after being bullied constantly at school. It's sad and more common than people may think. Kids/teens/adults all alike commit suicide daily worldwide. I may get hate for this and that is fine because it needs to be talked about. I am making this thread to ask you all to just sit down with someone you care about and discuss bullying with them, it can be your child, sibling, a friend, whoever you want. Just take the time to see if not only they are okay but if they know anyone struggling. Come up with ways to help, if you see a coworker being harassed stand up for them, if a friend is being abused by a family member or significant other help them. Please don't just look away. For someone out there you may be their only hope. If you yourself are in a bad situation please seek help. Don't let it go to far. Bullying can be deadly in more ways than one. Thank you for anyone who reads this. Stay safe.

Update!
Depression and self harm has had a huge toll on my life since I was 8 years old. I know that was a young age to start feeling so hopeless but I didn't exactly have a "normal" childhood.. Over the years I have found many songs that express my feelings, thoughts, overall how depression effects me. These songs have always been my emotional outlet. If you want please listen to a few WARNING These songs are about depression and suicide

I'm not sure about in other countries, but in the US teachers basically can't intervene in violence / bullying without the risk of getting sued and/or losing their job. Even if they decide to do something about it after the fact, the 'zero tolerance' (aka 'zero intelligence') policy makes it so the one getting bullied will be punished just as much.

That is absolutely ridiculous and school boards, or mayors, or the president, or whoever handles it should fix that stupid policy.

In the first years of my childhood I was constantly bullied due to being short and from a foreign country. My name still makes me stand out even if I fully integrated.

Unfortunately, this made me become later the one who bullied in order to protect myself from it. I ended up being aggressive in order avoid any potential threat, yet I never crossed the line (or so I like to think). I'm not proud of it by any means nor am I happy about it, but that's how things ended up being. Would I change any of that? Probably not. It made me see both sides of the same coin and it helped me mature. Does it make me a bad person? Well, probably yes, yet I never claimed to not be one.

As a conclusion my suggestion would be, learn to stand up for yourself and do anything it takes to survive. And last but not least, a quote from Game of Thrones by Tyrion Lannister:

Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.

Thanks for sharing your story, the sad thing is that the people who get bullied and don't get the support they need do later in life a lot of the time become bullies themselves. This world is like a cycle of cruelty and I hope one day it will end but I know that is to much to ask for so maybe one day it will just decrease to the point it is easier to know who all needs help.

I had a "bully" at my school, too. He always made the most hilarious jokes in class about me and he would never shut up or stop getting me in trouble. In seventh grade the classes were divided so I didn't interact with him for a few years. Then I had one class with him were all of his friends sat next to him and for a lack of free space I did too and it turned out he didn't change a bit. When I saw him in the hallway all by himself he didn't dare to say a word, though. He even went out of his way to avoid me, whenever he saw me. Once he wanted to ask a friend of mine something, so he approached him really slow, stuttered a few barely audible words and basically disappeared an instant after he got his answer. Are all bullies like this or was this just a particulary insecure example?

I had a bully in high school who used to call me a pig and trash, he would just treat me like dirt in front of people but when we were alone he would be more sexually abusive as in forcing me to kiss him or touch him, even said he loved me. Bullies are all different. Some bully for reasons they themselves don't understand. I believe most of them need help just as much as the people they bully. It is such a nasty cycle.

I think it's important to talk about bullying ._. While I play Life is Strange well I record a Let's Play ^^" I sometimes just stop and talk about being bullied, how it can destroy a person, how important it is not to look away. I talk about my own experiences, how grateful I was when someone did help me, how lost I felt when people just pretended to not notice how cruel othere were. I also mention that bullying others is pathetic... that bullies actually have usually low self esteem and just need a victim to make themself feel superior.
I know it's not much, but I'm not in a situation where I meet poeple, especially children, I could help, so reminding others how wrong bullying is and how we should help each other might be the best I can do at the moment. And, of course, if I see someone that needs help, I try my best to be the person I desperately needed when I was younger.

I have a couple specific memories of witnessing bullying as a child and while I was strong enough to not get bullied myself, I just wasn't strong enough to step in, step forward, etc. on behalf of others. I regret that today.

I hate to be the one to say this, but we need to keep in mind that -- like any kind of crime -- not all accusations of bullying are actual bullying; sometimes accusations are false and sometimes situations are debatable and left with a "hung jury". And sometimes, a false accusation of bullying is a kind of bullying itself. Just sayin'.

Also thanks for the gibs! :-)

As I said to someone else, bullying comes in all forms. If someone accuses someone of something they know is not true then they are in fact the bully and hopefully people realize that.

I will always try and stand up to bullies where I can, too many people look the other way or can't grasp the affect comments have or are having on others. No one should feel so alone and worthless that they take their own life. Everyone should think twice before repeatedly targetting people who have different views, thoughts, personality, race, culture...whatever...

That is true. The quote "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" has always bothered me because sometimes words can hurt worse than physical pain. For example I was in a bad relationship for awhile in which the guy would hit me as well as verbally abuse me. I honestly cried more at some of the horrible things he said then when he hit me. I actually learned when he hit me to not cry because that just made him want to hit me more. Luckily after being with him a couple years I broke away when he took me to visit my mom I just never went back. He has been in jail about 7 times. (To anyone reading this if you are in a relationship like this. please get away. I know if I didn't leave he could have and probably would have killed me. Please put your life over any man who treats you this way. You are worth more.)
