The provide me with a small amount of money in my Steam wallet, meaning I pay slightly less of my own money when buying games.

Ow come on....
Probably for most of us collecting "things' that do not exist in real world may be weird and completly useless...
But... you can sell your cards! Well you won't get "real" money. You won't be able to take them and pay with them in greengrocer. But you can buy another games... You should be greatful that somebody is willing to "pay" you for cards.

"It just helps steam to earn more money" = no money wasted ;)
Other then that, its just like any other kind of collecting.. either you do it yourself or you just shake your head in disbelief ;)

I just let them collect dust in my inventory.
At least the Community inventory does not have limited space like the TF2 inventory =)
Gotta catch 'em all!

I think it was very clever of Valve. Devs and Valve get money from the transactions. People who don't want cards can sell them (though the sum you get for each makes me question whether it's worth the time and effort) while those who do can trade for them or simply buy them. Everyone seems to win.
The main downside in my view is all that wasted electricity from cpu cycles of people idling games who don't suspend each running process.

Like them? Collect them and enjoy!
Don't like them? Sell them: It's money for nothing!
If your time really is so valuable that you can't justify doing either, just let them rot in your inventory. It's not as if you'd have the time to even click on the inventory screen anyway, such is your whirlwind existence...
Stop me if my logic is amiss, but I really can't see a problem here.

Im indifferent to them. If people enjoy them, more power to them, if not, oh well.
Not gonna shit on someone for doing something they enjoy that literally has no effect on anyone, or anything...and besides, its their money, and not yours, they can do what they want with it.

I usually craft Level 1 badges for games I tried (and that I paid for, so no free weekends) and if I like a game to the extent that I enjoy the idea of throwing a little more money at the devs and Steam I tend to craft it until Level 5; Given that my monthly and yearly budget allow it. At first the showcases were nice, too, but now above Level 30 that's no longer an incentive.
Nonetheless, I totally agree that it's ultimately useless - but enjoyable.

I've made enough to buy about 5-10 games, so frankly I think it's a good thing. It's also a good thing to sink those last couple of cents left over from when you purchase Steam wallet codes, because you never know when certain cards might go rare or not.
I feel like baby's first stock market :D

I agree with everything you said OP, BUT for someone who has a bunch of games and don't care about the cards it's great because that means we can sell them and essentially get another free game.

Yes. Collecting, buying, trading steam cards are ridiculous and waste of time & money. It just helps steam to earn more money with commission. I wonder what does the community think?
