And the best part about this: It actually looks like a good port.
I certainly hope that they did it as well as my favorite game ever deserves. :)

Oh Square.

Just a week ago I was talking about how good it would be if this would be on Steam. Strange.

Hmm, that's interesting to know! We definitely need to talk about how good it would be if "Red Dead Redemption" and "Last of Us" would be on Steam :)

I'm really happy they decided to release it with original sprites (looking at you FF:6). Now I just hope it runs well.

EDIT: Well... The excitement didn't last very long. One less chance for Square to release a worthy port a classic game.

Bundle filler? This is one of the most important and influential JRPGs from their SNES heyday. It's a beautiful game; the pixel graphics still hold up against more modern games that it inspired. It has engaging characters, amazing music, and a deep, complex storyline involving time travel that has about 14 possible endings, if I remember correctly. It was one of the first games to have New Game+. I agree that the price is a bit steep for such an old game's port, but most Japanese companies price their re-releases a lot higher than western companies do.

The pixel graphics are gone. It is a monstrosity.

I don't want you to feel like I'm attacking you or your taste in games. It's fine if you don't like the genre, don't want to play it, and think it's overpriced.

ooooh the possibility to pay 15 € to a 20+ year old game i already own and finished.... can't help but feel square enix just become more and more greedy with all their remaster, and ports, and the price tag coming along.

One of the few JRPGs I have thoroughly enjoyed.
If this wasn't a lazy mobile port, I'd consider buying it.

Yet another shitty cash grab, I'll pass. A 23 years old game (and a bad port at that) for 15 $, thank you Square Enix.

$15 for a poor mobile port... no thanks. Just play the ROM, it's a masterpiece and one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

The problem with playing a ROM is that it's actually kind of a pain to make the DS version fit onto an HD screen while still looking good. Argue all you want about the new translation, but the extra dungeons the DS version had were worthwhile enough to make it the definitive version otherwise.

This, with an emulator, not only you get good performance and controls, but you can also use some great graphical enhancements/filters that make these old games actually playable on large HD screens : CRT shaders, xBRZ, scanlines...you name it.

Not like this.
I love Chrono Trigger to death. I own and have played the SNES, PS1 and DS versions multiple times and I wouldn't recomment this Steam version to anyone.
It's just a port of the really bad smartphone version, so you better keep your hands away from this mess and buy something more worthwhile instead, like Final Fantasy 7, 8 or 9 if you really wanna scratch that classic Square RPG itch.

It looks like it was pretty rushed - claims of it being barely changed from the phone release to the point of some overlays still being there and 15-20FPS framerates. Judging by the surprise drop and the fact that it only seems to be available until April 2, I'm guessing they just needed a quick and dirty cash grab to stay far enough in the black this fiscal year. It's only been an hour and it's already shot to #3 on the bestsellers list, so it was clearly pretty effective.

...naturally, I'll end up picking it up once someone (preferably Square Enix, but yeah right) irons out the performance issues.

It will probably remain available after April 2, just without bonus content of the "Limited Edition". I think they're just trying to sound like it's really limited.

Mostly negative wtf.

It would have been great to get the PS1 version or something, but all they had to do was just put up the SNES version on an emulator and they couldn't even do that.

I hate Square Enix :(

AAAANd it's a mobile port. Why couldn't they just port the SNES version? Or edit the DS version some?
