[Tier 1] A triplet of X games for a dollar!
[Tier 3 / BTA-risen-above-T3] I have always wanted to play EVE:Offline, and it's sure cheaper here than buying it anywhere else.
[Tier 1 Complaint] Back in 2013 (!), the Tier 1 also included X3: Reunion. That's a drop in serving sizes if I've ever seen one.
[BTA Complaint] X Rebirth doesn't even include the second expansion from 2016. What's this, ordering half a hamburger?
[Tier 3 Complaint] Okay, so X4 gets one expansion every March. Shouldn't they at least deliver the two older ones (2020, 2021) and a coupon for the newest 2022 DLC, rather than just the 2020 one and a coupon for the 2021 expansion? This feels like the ketchup's missing!
[Have] Been there, bought that. Don't need a refill.
[Genre Complaint] I just can't see the appeal to managing interstellar empires.
[Lewd Complaintato] You can keep your X games. Call me when you have XXX games.

Too bad I own everything but X4...

Still, this is lot of hours of gameplay.

I own only X3: Terran Conflict and haven't even played it. I don't even know if any game from tier 1 is better than it is.
This series is totally uncharted territory for me, and the genre too.

I'd say: "it's like Elite, but you build a trading empire in first person (ship flight) and get to own space stations and AI operated ships".
The T1 games are really old. I've only played a tiny bit of X2 and X3 myself.
I think most cool mods require the standalone X3:AP rather than the older T3:TC. Like http://litcube.xtimelines.net/wiki/index.php/Features (and then there's mods for that mod, like https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=381503 ).

The XRM mod for Terran Conflict seems pretty good too: https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=304158

Thanks! That makes it clear that it's not a bundle for me, I may be trying X3 out at some point, but it's really low priority.

A very good bundle for those who don't own (most of) the games.

That really depends on whether it will take just two years or a whole eight-nine years until a more complete next Egosoft bundle (or free giveaway or what).
Personally I'm not a fan of this trend of partial games at all. It's not like the recent 7th bundling of EU4, titled "The Complete Collection", was complete.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly that's the point: You have many hours to play the games.
Besides that, you can't compare the X series to EU IV as the X games are four individual games - EU IV is one game with many DLCs.

You don't have to play e. g. the first X games to understand X 4: Foundations. It is helpful regarding the story, but the story isn't the main part of the X games.

I love open universe space games but the X series always seemed soulless to me. Still I'm tempted to try X4 out but still a steep price for it.

custom amount
the minimum to humble, 1-2 dollar to devs, rest charity. thats what i do everytime.

The problem of the second option is that Humble gets US$0.45 more, the dev gets less and charity stays the same - but it states "Extra to Charity".

so not pick this option ? dont see the problem :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly! If you want to give more money to charity, you should choose the third option: Custom.

But the problem with the second option is more than obvious: It states "Extra for Charioty" - but there is literally nothing added for charity.

is it me, or is BTA on HB bundles lately just about the same as the full tier 3 price?

It's worse: it can go above the tier 3 price and does so every so often.

Honestly, For $1 it's a steal to get X2. That game still holds up today, but anyways, if you buy the Tier with Albion prelude you also get Farnham's Legend (free on steam under Albion Prelude's DLC section)

Farnham's legend is basically the "ultimate" X3 game, built by modders along with Egosoft. FL fixes and adds most of the things that are missing or needed improvement in AP and TC. Well worth a buy in my opinion.

also it's very useful to soothe the star citizen backer's depression syndrome

Also:

The adjust donation on this one is - well you can see:

Adjust Donation
Default Donation
$10.80 to Egosoft
$2.70 to American Red Cross
$4.50 to Humble

Extra to Charity
$10.35 to Egosoft
$2.70 to American Red Cross
$4.95 to Humble

Umm Humble, you are not a Charity!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There's a Custom Amount that can be selected to set donation to pretty much whatever you want. Do you not have that option?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The point is that option 2 is named "Extra for Charity" - and it isn't the case. So, if you don't look twice, you give Humble a bit more money, and not the charity.

I considered buying X4 just last month, with their latest DLC release. So this is pretty enticing, even just for X4 and the one(and a half) DLC.
I'll wait and see what other bundles they release within the next two weeks.

Thinking about it. I bought the other X bundle from them years ago but couldn't get into them because of how dated they are. Now with X4 and it being in the bundle I'm really tempted to get it and try again.

I used to play Freelancer back in early 2000's like a complete addict for months. I loved it a lot, although this is different, I want to be immersed in space games like this. It's a great deal as I don't own any of the games. Now I do. 👍🏻

Yeah it's hard finding ones like freelancer. Freelancer discovery is still active and they've expanded the universe. Worth a play. I personally really enjoyed Rebel Galaxy Outlaw but you gotta have a flightstick.

So, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw doesn't work any other way? I would not buy a flightstick for just one game. I do like the type and I would love to see more games like Freelancer.

You probably could play it with a mouse. You might enjoy the original Rebel Galaxy more though.

Just realized the 'X Superbox' I bought in a local store in 2013 has a 'community key' key in it. Tried it on Steam and it activated X-SuperBox Retail.
Good thing I checked, I don't think this bundle is worth it for only X4, Split Vendetta and Teladi Outpost.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I bought the SuperBox a long time ago. Apparently the store page for the SuperBox doesn't exist anymore, but it actually came with a few extras, you'll find "X-SuperBox Bonus Materials" under Tools in your Library. The bonus materials appear to contain some extra videos, fan artwork, soundtracks, and a 300-page encyclopedia (from before Rebirth). The SuperBox does not include Rebirth, though. So, that leaves two games, and one DLC for each. That's over $100 if you bought them all at full price (who does that?)... so I was briefly tempted to get this anywaay. Then I ended up getting Rebirth from somewhere else, and now I agree with you that it just seems like it's not worth it.

X4 is on my wishlist, but I wonder how accurate these negative review excerpts are?:

It's important to stress that X4 is actually two games in one. One game is the empire builder, where you sort out your economy, build units, expand, and send icons to go stomp on other icons. This generally works quite well.

The other game is the flight sim, where you fly from place to place, try to dogfight, and otherwise live life in the cockpit. The second game has many, many flaws. Not graphics, although framerates will bottom out sometimes; no, the problem is the combat.

Combined with the UI jank, bad collision detection (watch your ship do a ridiculous little dance before you die while trying to hull-hug an enemy capital) and other small but glaring flaws, and you end up with a game that feels all the worse because of how great it could have been.

Game is f*cking amazing, paradox is a silly child compare to this advanced RTS. But... in my opinion this game have very bad optimization.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The reviewer had played X4 for 241h at the point of this review. And then played it for another 260h meanwhile. So yeah, you can't expect a flawless game for sure. But it also should be worth $18.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That was actually from two different reviews, but empty line returns aren't handled well by the quote markup. This was a separate review from the stuff about "two games in one":

Game is f*cking amazing, paradox is a silly child compare to this advanced RTS. But... in my opinion this game have very bad optimization.

Optimization is less of a concern for me, with a 5600X and RTX 3080, but it would annoy me if optimization is so bad that even FPS crawls on my system.
