MacGameStore often has quite cheap prices - quite often cheaper than other shops, even than presumably their other shop WinGameStore.
So I'm wondering if keys bought on MacGameStore (e.g. (and specifically) keys for Cities: Skylines DLCs) can be activated on Steam running on Windows and used on Windows machines; or are there certain restrictions with keys bought on MacGameStore?

If anyone has actually bought from the shop and can tell from personal experience, that would be great.

Here's a few things for you.

Have you actually bought that DLC from them for to use on windows? Because the description says "CPU TYPE Intel Mac Only". Also, the "ALSO AVAILABLE FOR" links for Windows and Linux both forward to WinGameStore (where prices are generally different from MacGameStore).

Green Cities, Concerts, Parks Plus, Industries Plus, all the Campus ones. Not necessarily now, but when there's a price cheap enough. Basically all that I don't own, yet.

Yes, they do. There are only a very few select exceptions, and they are usually games released in the early 2010s.
But if you are so worried, just buy the same game at WinGameStore, they are the same store.

Ok.
It's just that I'm looking for the cheapest price and they can differ quite a lot at times. Hence the question.
So would you go as far as saying that whenever the "ALSO AVAILABLE FOR" part on game's pages say "Windows" as well, that the delivered key will work on either OS?

How to spot the exceptions?

One clear example is Call of Duty Black Ops Mac Edition, which has a completely separate Steam AppID for the Mac version.

Interesting. Thanks for the example.

Steam key is Steam key. A Steam key for Mac will activate for Windows, except where it explicitly says otherwise, like talgaby said. Done that in the past a few times where MacGameStore was significantly cheaper. Nowadays most of the games there have the same price as WinGameStore, so it has been years since my last purchase.

one of my fav. stores. macgamestore as well as wingamestore deliver steamkeys and as long as there is not a key only for mac it should work without any problem.

I've bought stuff on MacGameStore before and and it has always worked on my Windows PC. There are a few exceptions - as far as I know they are all Call of Duty games and clearly have separate Mac versions for sale in the Steam store.

Ok, thanks. So I guess checking the actual steam market to see if there's different versions (or steamdb I guess), could be helpful in some cases.
