And by Crappy i mean games that got terribad reviews and general lowsy critics.

For me, Alpha Protocol has to be on that list, despite the laughable stealth mechanics and hilarious animations, i admired how the story develops based on what you do, and how the relationships between you and your co-workers develop.

Also, prepatch Hidden & Dangerous and prepatch Vampire The Masquerade (bloodlines was enjoyable with or without any patch).

Name your underdog favourites!!!

MDK doesn't really belong here since it was a fantastic and well built game, but it went almost unnoticed when it was released: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDK_(video_game)

Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2 were also god damn fantastic games but had plenty of bugs.

MDK was a critic smash, though.

All old LSL games were amazing and never crappy. Magna cum laude was crappy but enjoyable. Box office bust made me want to drive to the studio and force them to commit suicide, with notes apologizing to Al Lowe for fucking up one the the greatest franchises ever.

btw, Gothic, if i'm not mistaken, did have bad reviews in USA - as it was TOO HARD for american players. It was most praised in the Eastern Europe though.

Why're you defining "underdog" as "got bad reviews?" Skies of Arcadia and Aquaria are vasty underappreciated, and they're truly excellent.

When I saw the title of this topic, I immediately thought "Alpha Protocol", probably because I actually read a critic use the word "crappy" to describe the gameplay. "Love" is probably too strong a word but I did think it was under-appreciated.
Although it probably helps that I got it when it was on sale for $2.

E.T. for the Atari 2600. trollface

Actually, that game and joke should be put in seperate landfills, across continents preferably. :D

On serious terms, I really enjoyed Iron Grip: Warlord despite the low-average to terrible scores it received. The steampunk-ish setting is awesome and the online multiplayer was fantastic....for the 1 game I managed to find. Yeah, unfortunately IG: Warlord's multiplayer is dead, but hey, the game is great! I played it last night actually! ^_^

Another close second would be Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Sure, it may not be very long and from what I can tell the co-op is extremely bugged (haven't tried it myself yet), but the gameplay is fantastic. The game is a great light RPG/action adventure game in various locales. The graphics are insane (well, there's a lot of blacks and grays, but hey, Limbo has that too and look how it did :P) on just medium-high settings as well.

Well, the closest to 'crappy' for a favorite of mine would have to be NGEN Racing. I don't think it scored too high or became well known, but it gave me many hours of enjoyment. :)

Final Fight: Streetwise
50 Cent: Bulletproof
Maybe because I played both with my cousin in good, old "my turn is after you fail" style, commenting on the playthrough etc. ;-)

Also, not really bad, but MAG was underrated. MANY people were talking crap about it, while when I played its beta and Bad Company 2 beta, I thought they really were on par. Maybe because of the fact that thanks to the official PS forums, I was able to play with an actual team that knew what to do, instead of a bunch of random people...

Homefront copied Quake Wars and Battlefield in it's best and made the worst.
Duke copied some shit and made shit.
Still it's nice somebody like it

Enjoyed Alpha Protocol, though now think it's crappy. Enjoyed Splinter Cell: Conviction, though now think it have nothing to do with stealth-like-games. Enjoyed Gears of War 3 - only the third one, as it's the most bright, intense and touching shooter for xbox i've ever seen. oh, almost forgot - Kane & Lynch 2: The Dog Days. Loved the concept
